Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The Lincoln town car rolled to a stop in front of the magnificent entrance to the Prosperous garden. A valet approached, red vest matching the bright red wooden pillars that framed the doorway. Miki slid from the driver's seat, glad that he hadn't been forced to take the SUV that emphasized his lack of height. He left the car running as he got the door for Ben Tai.

He'd been driving his new boss around ever since the shootout in the cemetery. Supposedly it was a sign of trust but Miki go the inkling that Ben just liked having someone else do the driving. He was perhaps showing too much deference by getting the door for him, but it seemed like the right thing to do outside such a fancy place.

He followed Ben towards the open doors, drinking in the colors and smells of the palatial restaurant. This was where the Dragon Head himself operated from. It was swimming with Triad yet managed to maintain a facade of fine dining and cuisine. It was an impressive front.

"Any idea why the Dragon Head wants to see us?" He had a few ideas of his own, but any information he could squeeze from Ben would be useful, even if it was just a confirmation of what he already guessed.

"Just a bunch of boys being boys." Uncle Chang scoffed in the background, making blunt comments about the showboating that the two displayed. Jin didn't disagree, but he was far more appreciative of the gestures by both Ben and Miki. In this world, there was a game to play and a manual to follow--whether you liked it or not.

"I know, I've heard about Lien too." Jin nodded with a smile, keeping his food hovering outside of his closed mouth. He opened up, slid the food in, then chewed quickly and swallowed. He washed it down with a sip of tea.

"Good work by your team, Ben. You picked the right bunch. I'll keep my eye out for you all--the Tai Yeung takes care of their own."

Jin could tell what Miki was doing. He was coming off as humble as he should be--regardless of how wonderful a feat his actions were. That was something strange about Chinese culture. Arrogance and confidence were on in the same, and so any remark coming close to it would be washed away with harsh criticism with the intent of putting one in his place. There was pride, but it was isolated and insulated--from within. It was a gesture that pleased Jin; this young man knew what to do and how to do it. Respect.

Ben, on the other hand, had far more power than Miki. He had more leeway to be more obnoxious with his talk. Still, there was nothing Jin could demean Ben with. Ben had saved Jin's life, and for that Jin pledged his undying loyalty to his subordinate. Ben was pushing for his own agenda. He was ambitious and Jin was sure to always be wary of it. Hopefully the day where Ben would try to bite Jin's own neck would never come. It would be too harsh to lose a man of that caliber.

"The Xin Hop are on the move again, but we're going to be ready for them. Honestly, our manpower is not as strong as where I want it to be. That's why I want you and your men on the next job." Jin's eyes were ablaze with intensity. While they were eating, Jin wanted to talk business. He didn't want to skirt around the subject with more formalities. It was better to not waste any of their time.

"Can I count on you guys again? Hopefully this will be the last time."

"I am at your disposal, Dai-lo."

He responded to both inquiries at once with that simple phrase. Yes he was eager to prove himself, and yes he was ready to act at Jin's command. After everyone else had filled their plates Miki began to mechanically pile food on to his own, golden eyes scanning the faces of the other three people sitting at the table. While he wanted to show his acknowledgement of his position, it would be a different kind of rudeness to refuse food after being invited to the table. No loss there, this was better food than his paycheck usually covered. A pretty damn big step up from instant ramen and convenience store chicken.

Being an undercover cop was bad enough, not receiving a regular paycheck, only being allowed to make use of the meager income he earned from his cover job. He legitimately needed to move up in the ranks of the Tai Yeung and earn some real cash if for no reason than to keep warm and fed.
Deftly handling the chopsticks he shoveled various foods into his mouth, barely hesitating to identify what he was eating. The spices were strong, just the way he liked it. The dishes had a distinct Hong Kong flare, containing the same unique blend of east and west that distinguished the city from the rest of the country. No doubt that was why the Tai Yeung chose to do business here, and why the restaurant flourished.

« Is that right? » Ben failed to conceal the massive joy he felt. He didn’t need to wait any longer. His hand went and rummage through the inside of his dress jacket.

“It seems, this would be the ideal time to show you…” He paused as he took out a small envelope and handed it to Jin.

“This!”

Within there would be a piece of paper with a picture. The paper had an address written on it, while the picture showed the face of their foe, behind it was written her name, Qiao Xifeng.

“A present from an unknown force that is eager to speak with you Jin-sama, I`m not much for useless information, so I went to investigate myself; the woman is there, and is heavily guarded. It is very likely she is the woman that caused us so much grief.” Ben said with an exaggerated sigh and shook his head.

“I do have a solution to… our lack of man power. We use the Red Dogs. No doubt they’d be eager to help kill the Empress, and honestly… I’d rather the blood spilt to be mainly that of our foes then our allies. Especially, should our counter-attack fail. We might have too few men to protect our assets.”

[Oi crap. One month later...]

Ben had proven himself resourceful once again, and this Miki guy seemed loyal enough. There was still so little proven through their actions, but Jin didn't care; right now the focus of all the Tai Yeung resources would be into their beef with the Xin Hop. The Xin Hop were backed into a corner and Jin knew it, but he also knew that their resources were already stretched thin enough as it was. This was a risk, trusting the Red Dogs, but it could prove to be beneficial in the grand scheme of things.

Jin looked to Miki and gave him a glimpse of a cold stare. With his eyes, Jin tried his best to analyze what he could about the man. There was something about him that made Jin worry. He was unproven, inexperienced, and wasn't established. He would have a hard time in the years to come, but that was the best way to sort out the lot. His devotion over time would help him grow into a true Tai Yeung member as it had shaped and formed Jin and the rest of the hierarchy.

Jin's attention, however, was focused keenly on Ben. The whereabouts of the Empress... this was important.

"Where'd you get this--no matter. How old is this information? Is she there right now?" Hopefully Ben was aware of Jin's line of questioning. It was time to end this once and for all.
