Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The Lincoln town car rolled to a stop in front of the magnificent entrance to the Prosperous garden. A valet approached, red vest matching the bright red wooden pillars that framed the doorway. Miki slid from the driver's seat, glad that he hadn't been forced to take the SUV that emphasized his lack of height. He left the car running as he got the door for Ben Tai.

He'd been driving his new boss around ever since the shootout in the cemetery. Supposedly it was a sign of trust but Miki go the inkling that Ben just liked having someone else do the driving. He was perhaps showing too much deference by getting the door for him, but it seemed like the right thing to do outside such a fancy place.

He followed Ben towards the open doors, drinking in the colors and smells of the palatial restaurant. This was where the Dragon Head himself operated from. It was swimming with Triad yet managed to maintain a facade of fine dining and cuisine. It was an impressive front.

"Any idea why the Dragon Head wants to see us?" He had a few ideas of his own, but any information he could squeeze from Ben would be useful, even if it was just a confirmation of what he already guessed.

Scarlett's limo had pulled up behind the black Lincoln town car just as Ben stepped from the vehicle. The sounds of her door opening caught her attention and she slid from the back seat. This would be the first she'd be in a meeting with Triad members, something she particularly liked to avoid. Meetings weren't always the best, they consisted of arguing and ignorance. Just like a jury, there would always be that one person trying to sway the others into agreeing. It was why the council was a disaster; that and they were a bunch of grumpy, ego-centric men. She could only hope that the ones called the this meeting were smarter and less likely to become ignorant the longer it dragged on.

Brushing her fingers through her crimson hair, Scarlett made her way from the limo up towards the front door. She looked like she was ready for a meeting; a white button up that was tucked into her pencil skirt with a matching blazer jacket. She defined the look of a business woman. As she walked, she didn't call out for Ben to wait or to hold the door, nor did she have her driver follow her in to do such things for her. Granted, Ben Tai was a bit more of importance when it came to Triad related things. If she wanted a chauffer she could afford one for every hour of the day, yet for someone like her who was extremely independent, a driver was the only kind of help she desired. Driving in a city like Niwa was not particularly fun.

As she entered, she overheard the driver for Ben ask a question. It was a plausible question, but Scarlett could only speculate what was going on. She had specifically asked Jin not to speak of what they conversed over the day before, so hopefully this wasn't it. That right there was the reason she decided to show up, fear of the unknown man. Fear of the unknown.

"I've never heard him called that before,"
She commented as she stepped by their side. Her sapphire eyes shifting to look at Ben's driver and meeting his gaze. "Though if I had to guess I'd say it was to discuss something of importance." Her tone was mundane at best, but that was just who she was. The answer she gave was an obvious one. "Ben, hope you've been well."

Honestly, the best thing about having a high seat in the Triad hierarchy was his ability to boss people around. People did what he told them to do, whether he ordered it or asked nicely. He didn’t even need a driver, he usually just flies to his destination, but he also needed to bring Miki along. What better way to demonstrate to the Chairman that their new recruit was trustworthy then have him drive Ben around? This also strengthened his own position. He didn’t really care much for it. The perks were nice, and it impressed his soon-to-be-wife.

Ben was wearing a very neat dark green stripped suit and he had a visor that hid most of his face. Even in the middle of Chinatown, visiting the boss he prefers to keep his face concealed. It was ironic; initially worn to hide his identity when committing crimes, it was now his most distinguishable feature.

He stepped out of the car, and took a whiff of fresh air, and headed inside.

“None. Perhaps he wishes to meet with you personally. I mentioned you during my report.” He said praising. Really, he didn’t even expect Miki to survive the mission, much less being instrumental in its success. Although Lien was the MVP, he made a special note to mention the new powered recruit.

“He has a thing for ‘powered man’ don’t turn your back to him” He added with a comical tone.

He turned his attention to the raven haired beauty. She could probably tell, even under his visor where his eyes were resting. He’d recognize that hot bust anywhere… those curves, those delectable lips. He smirked

“O-Jin-jii has many names that fit his position” Ben replied with a smirk. Ben had a knack of speaking disrespectfully toward his superiors, though he already proved his loyalty to the Tai Yeung several times that they tolerate it. He rested his hand on his chest, and bowed lightly at her. “It has been tolerable, though I am growing impatient.” He said alluding to the meeting they had before.

He wanted this war to be done with… He wanted to bring the fight to those hop Heads, and end them without mercy. He was growing more and more irritated as the days went by. This war was postponing his wedding.

“I hope that you have been doing better than I, Miss Rose, and allow me to introduce you my new protégé.” He said as he motioned his “driver”.

As the trio arrived, they were immediately ushered into the deeper parts of the restaurants. Strangely enough, Jin was not in his office then. He was on the restaurant floor having a small banquet prepared. There were a few new faces around, but most importantly was a man who had somehow managed to secrete himself deeper within the Tai Yeung organization without having the need to partake in all its daily doings. Chang Wu, an elderly man on the younger spectrum of what anyone would consider 'old', a balding man with a stern demeanor that made it feel like he was always yelling at you. Along at his side was a young boy--about seventeen years of age. He was dressed in one of Niwa's school uniforms and seemed to constantly throw his shoulders ahead of his face. He was shy and quiet, and it was clear from the boisterous laughing that it came from the two older men than the young boy.

Spread all around the Lazy Susan were a wide array of traditional Chinese dishes. Steamed fish, fried fish, steamed veggies, roast pork, roast duck, and white-cut chicken were some of the few.

As soon as Ben and Scarlett came into view, Jin threw his arm in the air and gestured that they come closer. He had a great big smile on his face, wrinkling his scars.

"Ben! Scarlett! Come come come!" He waved at them some more. "Come have a seat! This is Uncle Chang and his nephew YuXia. Come have a seat and let's sek fahn (eat)."

Miki held the door open for Ben as they spoke, but waited as he saw the red haired woman approaching. He maintained his post, holding the door for her, less out of genuine courtesy and more reflex. He was supposed to be playing the part of a tough gangster but some things just didn't leave you. Somewhere deep in his subconscious he was sure that if he didn't hold that door, somehow, someway, Amuro would find out and disapprove. That was worse than any beating.

Wait, don't turn my back? What's that supposed to mean?

He silently followed behind the pair of Tai Yeung lieutenants as they greeted one another. This wasn't his first time inside the prosperous garden, but last time he'd had to use the back entrance. It was strange how beautiful it was from the front. Fish tanks with various creatures that were no doubt on the menu sat in the walls on either side and reflected light on to the brightly colored walls in a startling fashion.

"Higa Mikio, yoroshiku."

He only had a moment to ponder the beauty of the place as the smell of food hit him all at once. Fried fish, roast duck, steamed vegetables. It was overwhelming. The whole place was a glorious assault on the senses. He inhaled deeply as they approached one of the banquet rooms. He dropped back as the young man sitting at the table waved them over, greeting Ben and Scarlet as he would old friends. It took Miki a moment to recognize him as the sense of familiarity washed of him. This was the Dragon Head, Jin Tsui.

He hung back by the door, silently offering a curt bow of respect. It wasn't his place to sit down without being invited, though he certainly wanted to be as near to that table as possible. The man's face was warped by scars and his big smile, but there was still that sense of familiarity, not just from the pictures he'd seen of him but something deeper...

Excitement wasn't exactly Scarlett's forte, so in the haste of Jin's cheerfulness, the introduction between her and Ben's protégé was lost. She did, however, receive the mans name and stored it for later knowledge. Higa Mikio Yoroshiku. The name rang no bells, but that wasn't much of a surprise. Scarlett rarely cared to dabble in the biddings of the other Triad members, unless asked to do so or for personal gain. Miki would be just another family member to her unless something interesting arose from him.

"Always a pleasure seeing you, Jin." Not like they didn't see one another on a regular bases. The office adjacent to his was given to her for financial use; that and to consistently see how messy he kept his office. "I cannot stay for long, but I won't pass up a chance for some food." The ill expression on her face gave no way of telling if she was serious or playing around, however she did what was suggested of her and she went took a seat. Her eyes shifting to the two that sat with Jin, and she gave them a tilt of her head.

"Scarlett Rose." She introduced herself to Uncle Chang and his nephew YuXia, two faces she hadn't seen around either. That didn't really, again, matter much. Scarlett kept a strict schedule, not really going out and specifically not hanging around any members of the Triad outside of work. It was a personal choice, one that she wasn't quite she was the right one.

Shiting her eyes from Chang and YuXia to Jin, Scarlett crossed one leg over the other and rested her hands in her lap. Not hearing the third chair, which would have been Miki's chair, scoot out she found her gaze back by the door where Ben's protégé stood. Her gaze questioning what he was doing, but she didn't specifically ask, she just suggested. "You should sit down." She pointed at the seat beside her. Whether it was rude of her to invite him into Jin's dinner or not, she particularly didn't care. Jin, above a lot of people, knew that was who Scarlett was.

Plus, if Ben brought him and spoke of him in such high regard, there was no need for him to be treated as a bodyguard or driver--as Scarlett had mistakenly called him earlier. His place was at the table.

Ben Tai

« Ora, Ojinji! » Ben replied with a quick wave of his hand, ditching the familiar tone to greet their beloved chairman. He did not mind him. Jin had a GREAT taste in company usually, always a hot female bodyguard around, and Miranda. He was efficient and a good leader to the Tai Yeung, and handled this war ordeal rather well. Ben still remembers their first meeting… Ben was more focused on that hot fire cracker of an assistant that he kept around… oh to know what hid under that tight skirt… Following the chairman in, he saw the whole area fill his senses.

The aroma of delicious food, the looks of it… What a feast! He then noticed Uncle Chang. Ben was fond of the crazy old man. When he was younger, he’d be a fly on his wall, and enjoy the hours of entertainment that he brought giving a yelling to “freeloaders” and openly chasing people out of his shops; A fearless man that scared even the grim reaper away.

“Uncle Chang! How is the wife? Is she doing well?”
The old man’s eye twitched as he glared at him. He crossed his arms.

“Ayaaaah! Took time getting here! You trying to starve Uncle?!” He said angrily in a thick accent, as he took a cup from a tray, sipped it and spit out its content, much to the horror of the poor waitress.

“Ah! I ask for tea, not coffee! TEA! You embarrass me in front of chairman!”

He turned to the chairman, changing into the sweetest old man. “Let me deal with this” He turned back to the waitress and they both walked back to the kitchen. Ben snickered as he understood everything the old man was saying, scolding her in their dialect. He’d feel sorry for her if she was a cup larger.

“Come Miki!” Ben said as he motioned his protégé to the chair Scarlett proposed for him.

“Hoho, Ojinji! Meet Miki. He is the man I mentioned in my report. A very… `talented` individual and you know me, Ojinji, I would never waste your time with a man, unless he was... special”

Uncle Chang came back, with the Waitress and he sat back down. The waitress handed him a cup of tea, clearly holding back tears.

“Thank you, dear and a pleasure to meet you both, Scarlett Rose and Miki.” Uncle Chang said sweetly, as he sipped his hot beverage.

Quickly the table had been filled with more guests, which made Jin happy. One of his greatest fears that haunted him throughout the years was not that he would die--he had long since accepted that a gruesome and violent death awaited him at the end of his journey--but that he would die alone. There were countless nights where the man awoke drenched in sweat, the last image in his mind being one filled with bullet holes and drained of blood. It would be cold. It would be lonely. Having company reaffirmed Jin of his daily doings. The kind gestures from strangers and partners solidified Jin's methods, telling the man that his style of leadership was one that was appreciated. It worked, and so it would pay dividends throughout Jin's time as Chairman.

"Thank you all for coming today." Jin bowed and looked at Ben, Scarlett, and Chang. Only after he had given his respectful nod to each of them, giving them the cue to finally eat more food, he shifted his gaze to Miki. This was the newcomer to the Tai Yeung. A young and promising young man that Ben had referred personally. Personally.

"So Miki," Jin began, shifting his gaze to the young man. He held in his hands a chopstick holding crispy garlic chicken suspended in the air. "I've been hearing great things about you. It's a pleasure to finally see the man behind the stories. You did good at the cemetery."

Things were moving quickly. Miki made an effort to calm himself as he made his way over the table. The Dragon Head's table. Very quickly indeed. Maybe too quick. Maybe Ben Tai was on to him. He wasn't convinced, the man had a greasy feeling about him, but he seemed to suffer from tunnel vision. Anything that didn't fit into his ambition didn't register. But then again, maybe that was just part of his act. Or maybe the Dragon Head lived up to his name. This could all be a trap, as set up; not that they needed an excuse to drag him into the kitchen, chop him up, and add him to the char siu.

He had to stifle a grin. The butterflies in his stomach, the fear of losing his head from one misstep. Things were going swimmingly. He offered another formal head nod before taking the seat offered to him.

"Dai lo."

He focused his ki, drinking in the sights, committing everything to memory while steeling himself against the intoxicating aromas that assailed his senses. At the moment he was something akin to a tape recorder, keeping accurate copies of everything said and seen in the restaraunt. Too bad the testimony of an undercover cop wasn't worth much.

"Brother-Ben had a good plan. Of course it's all luck after the first bullet is fired." He tried to sound humble as he accepted a teacup from the waitress, but dammit he had done well, even if it wasn't in the capacity Jin had implied. By now CRASH was on to the murder of a prominent member of the Xin Hop, but perhaps more importantly they were on the tail of that giant fucking Russian, Chuck.

“Ora, Ora, O-Jin-ji” Ben said with a slight bow as he filled his plate with an assortment of the delicacies before him. He wasn’t going to shy away. All the beer, all the food and all the bosoms at their disposable would not suffice to sate him. Especially after what transpired recently, Ben was restless, his mind was restless. He was obsessed with finding ways to end this war; was… because he found the way to end it. He needed able people, but it will be done such as it was in his head.

“Indeed. No amount of preparation could’ve prepared us for what happened. Who knew that Miki would be such a valuable asset? Who’d have known the Xin Hop had the ability to transform into such horrid monstrosities? Ultimately, Mei Mei is the one that took the initial kill, but if not for Miki’s impressive display… No doubt, the old man would’ve shifted also; further complicating our night, but it all came to pass” Ben said with a chuckle as he brought the food under his mask and into his mouth. Ben was a lucky son of a bitch; a beautiful fiancée, successful missions, raising the ranks at an intense speed thanks to gaining the respect of uncle Pig Ears and gaining the Chairman’s good grace. Now he had a powerful right hand man, and an equally dangerous left hand woman.

“No doubt, Miki is eager to prove himself to the Tai Yeung once more, eh? Miki?!” Ben goaded as he laughed heartily, tapping his back.
