| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? Malik walked through the mass of trees and vegetation as he made his way toward his desired location. The destination he had in mind was the Chateau Bōrei. He had heard rumors that the organization he adored was stationed here in this area. Their name was The Vanguard. In his own opinion, they are a faction made of people that help keep the peace within Niwa City. To him they are the real heroes. He didn't care what other say about them. He believed that they were doing the right thing, even if they did break rules set up by the police and officials. The reason the boy was looking for their organization was so he could join their ranks. Malik is a meta-human who possesses the ability to generate and manipulate lightning. He comes from a whole family of meta-humans. Malik inherited his powers from his father, who was also the one who taught him how to use them. The young electrokinetic got the idea to join The Vanguard when he witnessed a member stop a robbery during one of his walks through Niwa City, more specifically at Fuyuyama. While reminiscing about the memory, Malik continued his journey through the plant life that hid the headquarters of the vigilantes. As he wondered further into the chateau, he could see the entrance coming into view. Walking passed the last tree in his wake, he approached the entry way of The Vanguard. He stopped at the steps and examined the structure. 'This architecture is very interesting. It must be cool living here, even though this place is old.' He thought, wondering what it's like for the members of Vanguard living here in this certain place. Now that he is here, he feels determined to join the group and help uphold justice. True, Malik might be 16 years of age, but he's quite mature and can take most things seriously. Additionally, his lightning powers are not to be taken lightly. He is a novice, but holds much potential to become a powerful meta-human. As Malik stood at the steps, numerous thoughts were surfing through his head. They all relate to the members opinion on him, what the leader might think, and if he can get in or not. 'Ohh, I sure hope I don't mess up. I'm here to become a member of The Vanguard, so I have to give it my best shot. I just hope, my best shot will be enough.' He thought, anxious creeping it way in. Malik took a deep breath and decided to take the chance and go on ahead. He started to walk up the steps with much courage and determination. Approaching the door, or gate from what he could tell, he knocked on it with his right hand. Afterwards, Malik tried to muster the loudest voice he could make. Being a shy person he was, he is not used to speaking up to this volume. "Um, hello, my name is Malik Roberts. I would like to become a member, if you so wish it." He said out loud, so someone from behind could at least here him. He waited from a member to come to the door and open it. He'll wait all day, if he have to. Though, he will not wait too long as he didn't want to worry his mother. He of course, told her where he was going along with his father. His mother felt a bit reluctant to let him join as she's heard of the many troubles The Vanguard deal with, but was reassured by his father as he reminded her of their son's cautious attitude and maturity. |

« Yo! You lost or somethin? » A voice could be heard coming from behind Malik. A young man looking to be his age with golden hair, and blue eyes was there. He wore a black tank top, and what looked o be a tactical vest on him. He also wore jungle camo pants, and black boots. He had a round shield strapped to his back, and he was carrying a spear. He looked like quite the anachronistic solder. He walked up the stairs and matched Malik’s height. “Yo, I overheard ya. So you like, wanna join Cerberus? That’s sweet.” He said with a smile as he handed him a hand. “Yo, name’s Oscar. Oscar Kostan.” He said as he introduced himself “Gotta tell ya man. This shit is for real, you know what I’m saying? My dad died during a raid. Fighting crime is fun and all, but it’s dangerous. You sure you can handle that?” Nothing like brutal truth to test the vigor of new recruits. And even if their age matched, Oscar’s eyes were fierce. He spoke with a welcoming tone, and matched the youth’s lingo, but his eyes… There was a deep history in those eyes. |

Hearing a voice behind him, Malik turned to see who it is. To the boy slight surprise, it was someone about his age. From what he could see, the boy had golden hair and blue eyes. The clothes he wore resembled a type of soldier would wear. Also, the boy was of the same height as Malik stood. It was quite a coincidence to be as tall as the other. As the golden-haired boy outstretched his hand for a friendly handshake, the young electrokinetic obliged. He stuck out his own hand and shook it. The boy with golden hair introduced himself as Oscar Kotsan. From what Malik can expect, he was a member of The Vanguard, who was also called Cerberus to his assumption. The black-haired boy decided to introduce himself as well to the young member, so as to show his politeness and kind nature. "Hello Oscar, it's nice to meet you. My name is Malik Roberts. I'm trying to join The Vanguard, or maybe I should start calling it Cerberus. I didn't know that the organization changed it's name." He said. From what he already knows, he thought the faction was called Vanguard. Certain circumstances must have cause them to change the name. Well, that wasn't much of a problem as long as Malik got into the right organization. He didn't want to end up committing crimes for villains or become one himself. That was against his nature. Also, his mother would be devastated along with a father being heart-broken. Right now, he is just glad he ended up in the right place. At this moment, Malik continued to listen what Oscar had to say. He began explaining that being part of Cerberus can be dangerous. He was right after all, who knows what could happen to you. Still, Malik was ready for what ever dangers he might face. With a nod, he accepted what might come his way. "I may not know what obstacles will be set in my path, but I'm certain I can handle it." He said with a determination in his eyes. In them held much potential for growth. Malik can also see a cerain history behind Oscar's own eyes. They seem fierce. Oscar laughed heartily at his response. Malik had determination in his eyes and courage. He’d make a fine soldier one day; that was Oscar’s opinion. He shook his hand firmly. “Oh right!” Oscar said as he took back his hand after the shake. “It was called Cerberus, but changed to Vanguard. Still getting used to the new name” Oscar said a bit embarrassed. “Come on, let me give you the tour” Oscar looked up the big double door, but instead of going to the door handle, he went to the side of the door. He opened a panel that was disguised as part of the wall, and some audible beeps could be heard. After a few of them, there was a loud click, and the door unlocked and opened slightly. “Can’t be too careful, right Malik?” Oscar said with a chuckle as he patted his shoulder once, and went inside the Castle. Although the outside was still very much covered in moss, and lots of grass, the inside was all clean and upgraded. The hall was illuminated, and they face a big staircase that went up, and split in two. It was like stepping in to the past, even if the gold chandelier that was on the ceiling was an electric one instead of a genuine one. “So this is our home base. Most of the important stuff is downstairs, armory, HQ, gun range. I tell ya, getting this place cleaned and up and running was a tough and arduous task. We got some members that live here in the castle, though I wouldn’t recommend it. As cool as it is to live here, you’re… pretty far away from the city. So just going out to get milk and eggs takes like… 1 hour minimum, and don’t even get me started about trying to make your way here drunk and in the dark” Oscar said with a laugh as walked to a door to the side. “Come on, let me show the external training area. I want to see what you can do” Oscar motioned him to follow him. |

The boy nodded Oscar as he followed the blonde-haired Vanguard member. He was getting a chance to show his elemental abilities. Walking with his new friend to the external training grounds, he thought of what he should try first. He could try a simple lightning bolt fired from his hand or create a concentrated lightning sphere. Either way, it would be a flashy display, literally counting the electromagnetic radiation electricity can give off. As he walked down the pathway, Malik turned his friendly gaze to the background surrounding him and Oscar. To him, it was interesting. A mixture of nature and fascinating ruins. The base the faction lived at looked very cool to him. He turned his gaze back to the path he was walking on and could see a new scene opening in the distance. From what Malik could see, it was probably the training ground. Growing closer, the scenery came into a more detailed view. It looked interesting and suited the requirements for physical training. Malik may not appear to be the physical type, but he's actually athletic. Specifically speaking, he has strong legs, but lacks upper-body strength. Remembering what Oscar said earlier, Malik turned to ask what he special talents were. "So, what special abilities do you have?" He did wondered what was so unique about his new friend. Did that certain talent got him membership or was it something else? Earlier, Malik could see a history behind the fierce look within his friend's eyes. He wonders what had happened to him before he came here. Malik, however, is not the type to press on about it. He will leave it be and when the Oscar starts to talk about the subject, he will join in. He didn't want to bring up any unfortunate memories or bad feelings for him. They just met and he didn't want to ruin the mood with the heavy atmosphere that history could bring. |
