Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Michelle approached the nightclub nervously. She was dressed nicely, a simple blue dress with matching stockings. She had a job interview at Dusk nightclub and was told to speak to Sephyr. It was just a waitressing job, so why did she feel so nervous?

She took a deep breath, steeling herself as she pushed forward through the doors. She immediately felt eyes on her when she entered the room, but is was mostly just older patrons or the staff seeing who the newest person to walk in was. They could be ignored without a problem, so she just smiled at them and headed toward the office.

She knocked three times on the door, trying to look professional as she stood and waited. She had no idea what she was in for, but she had overcome scarier things.

If every serial killer is someone we least expect, are we safest around those we expect will kill us?

"That won't be a problem. I've worked alongside metas who were genuinely good people just as much as any normal human. Meta humans are people too, just people born with different abilities. Whether they are a good person or not depends on the person themselves, not whether or not they can bunch press a car."

Or turn into big fuzzy animals.

When Sephyr mentioned a background check, Michelle had a brief moment of panic. Then she remembered that her parents likely hadn't told anyone what they were and just said they were human. Granted if you traced the name Bloodmire back to the lycan clans in Scotland you would know by bloodline alone but would it go back that far?

"My parents moved here from Scotland before I was born, but I still picked up their accent. I was home schooled until I was seven to make sure I could speak both languages. After that I was put in the public schools and just kind of blended in. I've never really stood out in things, good grades but nothing genius level. I learned to work well with people, so dealing with customers won't be a problem. Right now I'm in my last year at Niwa high school. A lot of the students there are metas, so I move fast between classes to avoid getting caught in the fights." Was that what she wanted? Well it was a start at least.

"As for my interests... I tend to work with animals a lot, and I plan to go to some form of medical school. None of the hospitals accept interns that are still in high school, so I need to find work a high school student can do."

In Sephyr’s opinion Michelle was saying all the right things. A little humility and a lot of humanity went a long way with the former dancer. There was one test she had left to work out if the girl was completely bomb proof. There was one other point of focus in the entranceway to Dusk. The black marble statue was the centrepiece of the entire foyer. The first floor balcony was level with the sculptures shoulder, his head bowed down over his crouched figure. The pair of perfectly formed wings extended well above that height. The way the lights played over the gargoyle made the solid stone seem like it was alive.

“Besides the managers, I wanted to introduce you to the only other resident within Dusk. If you are completely ok with him, I’ll speak to Nemetis and see if we can get you in to start on Monday.” Sephyr’s offer was genuine. Plus, telling the elemental that her last place of employment was in pieces meant that Michelle should have been free to start immediately. “There is usually a three month trial period, but I don’t think we have ever needed to invoke that before. Nemetis is probably the easiest going individual I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.”

Reaching across the banister, Sephyr brushed her fingers along the smooth surface of the statue’s wings. “Asmodeus, I have someone for you to meet.”

Asmodeus naturally fell into his dormant state, that was until something moved nearby or he could over hear voices. The touch of Sephyr’s finger along his wing caused a smile that ran along his features. Gently his wings folded back as his torso pivoted slightly to see Sephyr, the soft rumble in his chest could be heard as his feet shifted to realign himself to face the two women. His chiselled features emphasised a demonic embellishment along his forehead as two horns shaped their way back into his hair. Bearing a wide frame and thick muscle it could only be presumed someone went to great detail in his every feature. At this height he could stand eye to eye with Sephyr as the pillar was a little lower than the floor they walked on. His eyes addressed the young woman beside Sephyr as his clawed hand seemed to be holding a small glass object.

This was new to him, being introduced to people in the middle of the day. Although he was not disappointed in the least. She was tiny, and looked so young, but he was not one to judge. He was only woken a few months ago. His features shifted slightly as he wondered who she was, or who she was to Sephyr. Slowly he bowed to the young woman, as segments of his bat like wings countered his every movement to stay balanced on the pillar. Everything around him would suggest he was of flesh and blood, even down to the hair that pooled down into his face as he finished the bow.

Standing back up he awaited a response, maybe another bow of respect. A look of shock and awe... Or screaming as they ran away. He had seen them all.

Michelle followed behind her as she made it seem as though she was hiring her. This certainly caused Michelle's heart rate to increase from excitement. She had been afraid she might not make it in time to pay her rent, but now it seemed that wasn't an issue.

"Someone else lives here?" She asked curiously. She looked around for who they could be meeting, but she really wasn't prepared for what came next. Sephyr reached out and stroked the wing of a statue before it seemed to spring to life. She inhaled sharply from surprise, but she didn't run or scream. She looked up at him wide eyed for a moment, a big grin forming slowly on her face.

"That is so cool!" She said excitedly. She had never seen anything like that, and it didn't seem like it wanted to hurt her. She reached forward, wanting to feel just how real he was. "Can can... can I touch him?"

“Michelle, this is Asmodeus.” Sephyr introduced the younger woman to the black marble statue. Her response made the elemental chuckle. As for whether he wanted to be touched, Sephyr took a step back and made a sweeping motion with her hand ~ that it was entirely up to the sculpture.

“If you can handle him, I’m pretty sure you can handle anything.” Asmodeus was still one of the more incredible creatures she had ever seen. And that was saying something. “He doesn’t speak, but he understands at least English and Japanese. He is all heart and fiercely loyal. Overprotective as well, so if anything ever goes wrong and you can’t find Nemetis or myself...” Sephyr was fairly sure half of what she was saying was going to get lost in the moment. Some people were terrified of Asmodeus and made a point to avoid the front foyer. “Let’s just say he has an effect of people that the security staff could not manage in a thousand years.”

As for her personal feelings towards the sculpture. He was the closest thing Sephyr had to a best friend. She loved the statue’s company, even if he did cost her a dozen new floor tiles ever week. Almost seven foot of solid marble with wings... she didn’t want to think about how much he weighed. He generally did not start roaming around Dusk until after closing time either.

He had summarised that the woman was a new addition to the Night Club as Sephyr’s words ran from her lips. He welcomed the new addition as he remembered the incident that forced some to leave. Luckily they had not taken to speaking to him, he would have hated losing his family from something he should have been able to stop.

As for Michelle’s question. He slowly reached his free hand past the banister and gestured for her to shake his hand. This was an occasional gesture from his understanding, one with limited contact and did not involve him trying to not crush her ribs if when he hugged her. He would have remained there with his open hand to her, anticipating her to complete the gesture. What would it be otherwise? Although he was aware of his frightful appearance it was something he could not change, just like the clawed fingertips of his hand as he reached out to gently shake her hand. They were not razor sharp as they resembled something out of a fantasy movie.

If she accepted and touched his skin she would have realised he was a few degrees cooler than the ambient air temperature that surrounded them, much like a marble bench top or slate tiles on a winter morning. There was no 'give' no cushioning to his marble skin as his hand would have gently encompassed around her own, the slight gesture of shaking her hand up and down was slight as he did not wish to harm her. Forever reminding himself that they were like glass, and he could never put the pieces back together. Everything about Asmodeus resulted in a protective reassurance towards Michelle and Sephyr alike. He was not going to fail his best friend a second time, or anyone else.

Michelle looked up at him in wonder as he outstretched his hand to her, which she reached out and took. His skin was cold, but to him her skin would be exceptionally warm. It was hard like marble, but seemed to be fully movable. Her other hand reached out, running over the back of his hand. "You're amazing!" She said in awe, grinning widely. She released him, pulling back to give him space. "He's so beautiful. Does he just stand there all day?"

She turned back to Sephyr, eager to see what other interesting things were in store. She had a feeling she would love it here.

“Usually, at least during open hours.” The security staff loved it when Asmodeus went walkabout in the middle of the evening. Just follow the screams... usually he was keeping an eye on someone who looked suspicious. Like the woman using Red Eye the night before. Higher class of people usually meant a higher class of drugs. But she was trying to spray it in someone else’s eyes. Sephyr had dealt with that personally. Call it her natural inclination towards being a vigilante but she had been ~ and still was more interested in hunting that down at the source.

“You might find the occasional work of modern art made out of empty, and sometimes not empty, bottles in the bar.” That had been less of an occurrence since her birthday, but he still got artistic from time to time. “So, does Monday work for your first day?” There was still the job offer hanging between them. “I can get you to come in earlier in the afternoon and Nemetis can assess your skills and give you the grand tour.”

« Oyy Nee-“ Oscar stopped as he peered through Sephyr office door, to see her adopted big sister missing. The young blond lad with those special blue eyes looked perplexed. He titled his head to the side. She was usually here, and she didn’t mention having any business. He was carrying with him a small lunch box containing delicious food for Sephyr. They’ve been living together for months, and Oscar pretty much took over most chores around their apartment: cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, cooking, prepping, grooming…. He was very adamant to do those chores after Sephyr saved him from like as an abandoned orphan and offered him a job at the Dusk.

He was glad to do those things. Sephyr reminded him of one of his many daughters. An honorable and very beautiful young lady that seemed to take her youth for granted, and Oscar was still getting used to a spry young body. People often don’t realize how drastic the change is until they gain their youth back. On top of his daily chores, he was also training and working diligently. Little to no time left for socializing outside of work, sadly, but things will be less hectic once he is of legal age, might as well enjoy the carefree life while it lasted.

Oscar inquired to the patrons, and they saw Sephyr talking to a young lady and showing her around… Oh right! Since the incident they lost a few staff members. Oscar couldn’t blame them, and he was pulling double duty to keep up with the workload. Thank God, Sephyr didn’t restrict him from using the bar after closing hour. A stiff drink is obligatory after a very rough night.

He spotted the red head from afar, standing under Asmodeus. He promptly walked up to them, and overheard the last of their conversation.

“Ooooh, sorry to intrude” Oscar said as he stepped forward.

Oscar was wearing his busboy uniform. A white buttoned up shirt, with the sleeves rolled up all the way to his elbows, black slacks and black shoes. He gave Michelle a bow.

“Hi, I’m Oscar Kostan, one of the many busboys” He said with a light smirk. His accent was heavy. He was clearly not a native of Niwa or Japan for that matter. He pronounced words in an odd manner often placing the emphasis on the wrong syllable, though he spoke slowly so he could be understood.

“I overheard a bit, welcome to the Dusk!” He added with a grin, before turning to Sephyr.

“Here you go, Nee-san!”
They did not look alike, not in the least as Oscar presented her with the Japanese style lunchbox.
“You got to eat up, you probably skipped breakfast again.” Oscar added with a scolding tone.

Michelle up as she heard a voice approaching them. She raised an eyebrow, seeing that it was someone who worked here as well. He was younger than her, but cute. She turned to face him, extending her hand. "Hello Oscar, I'm Michelle Bloodmire. I'll be starting on monday according to the boss. I'll be a waitress."

She smiled when he went to give Sephyr lunch. How awesome was that to have employees who brought you lunch? She might have to participate, but she wouldn't upstage him of course. She was an okay cook since she lived alone, but her meals weren't exactly gourmet.
