Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Michelle approached the nightclub nervously. She was dressed nicely, a simple blue dress with matching stockings. She had a job interview at Dusk nightclub and was told to speak to Sephyr. It was just a waitressing job, so why did she feel so nervous?

She took a deep breath, steeling herself as she pushed forward through the doors. She immediately felt eyes on her when she entered the room, but is was mostly just older patrons or the staff seeing who the newest person to walk in was. They could be ignored without a problem, so she just smiled at them and headed toward the office.

She knocked three times on the door, trying to look professional as she stood and waited. She had no idea what she was in for, but she had overcome scarier things.

If every serial killer is someone we least expect, are we safest around those we expect will kill us?

Sephyr just stared down at her desk. After spending a week as the guest of Niwa City’s finest, she thought there would be something to come back to... but there was nothing. Not even a single signature she needed to put on something. It was good to know that the wheels did not fall off in her absence. It was another thing to feel completely unnecessary. Nemetis, or Vyrae... probably both of them had seen to everything.

Everything except the knock which sounded on the door to her first floor office.

She didn’t have any meetings, and neither Vyrae or Nemetis, not even Oscar bothered to knock. Pulling open the door the tall redhead focused on the neatly dressed girl woman.

“How can I help you?” Her accent was subtle and her smile warm, the split in her lip was mostly healed. A coating of lipstick and it would have vanished entirely. Even the bruise which had been a feature on the left side of her cheek was all but gone.

The door opened to reveal an almost intimidating woman who looked like she had been in a fight recently. Michelle had heard about the fight that had happened here before, so she quickly assumed that was where those injuries happened. "I was told to come in today for an interview by a man named Nemitis or Nemotose... I can't remember his name exactly." She looked apologetic for forgetting the name, but they had only spoken briefly. A few waitresses had quit after the shooting and she had responded to the help wanted sign. Her scottish accent didn't make her difficult to understand, but it was fairly obvious.

"I was wanting to apply for the open waitress position. I was told to come in today and speak with you." Her old job had been blown up and destroyed when some nutcase cop made of metal came in and started throwing around the metas who were trying to rob it. Her rent would be due in a couple weeks, and she was a bit short. She needed to find a job fast, so the help wanted sign was definitely a relief. Sure it was a club likely full of grabasses, but she needed to get money from somewhere.

“Right.” Sephyr took a step back, holding the door open for the woman to enter. “Come in and take a seat. Vyrae mentioned that there were some job openings.” Her general manager had forgotten to mention that Sephyr was the one who needed to be doing the interviews. At the rate she was going, getting a personal assistant may not have been too far away.

“Before we start though, I need to be completely honest with you about why we have open positions.” Sephyr would have left the door open and made herself comfortable in the couch seating rather than returning to her desk. “Dusk has almost zero staff turn over, we pride ourselves on that fact. But the Lounge was attacked a little over a week ago. The situation was contained and the security has since been tightened. But I need you to know what the potential risks are.”

Potential risks... someone was more likely to get shot walking down the street minding their own business than within Dusk. Niwa was not exactly a safe place. But her employees deserved to feel safe. Their clientele were a few pay grades above the normal, but an assgrabber was an assgrabber, regardless of their income. Though, Nemetis usually made a point of threatening to permanently remove hands that couldn’t stay off his staff.

“If you are not comfortable with that, then I understand.” Sure Sephyr paid on the higher end of the wage scale and ensured that tips were split evenly, there were plenty of benefits. Whether they were enough for the darkhaired woman to stick around was yet to be seen.

She entered when Sephyr moved aside for her, finding a spot to sit. The chairs were very comfortable, and she settled in easily. "I knew about the attack, but at this point I need the money. It was the first time I've heard about an incident here, which is more than I can say about other places I've worked. My last job actually exploded..."

She wasn't kidding.

"I'm still interested in the job, and it will take more than one incident to make me hesitate." She wasn't exactly easy to kill, either. Granted a gun shot wound to the chest can still be fatal.

She was realistic at least. Sephyr did not even blink when the woman explained that her last job had exploded. After the stuff Sephyr had seen ~ she could believe that. “Well then, down to business.” Her smile was bright. There was something inhuman about the elemental, but she did not lack for genuine warmth. “You already know that I am Sephyr, owner of this establishment, or you managed to read the name on the outside of my office door and took a wild guess. Vyrae Griffith is the general manager, she keeps the every day running smoothly and she takes a particular interest in the new staff.” It helped that she was a clinical psychologist as well, but she left the PhD at the door. “The other manager you would need to deal with is Nemetis. The one I am assuming who gave you my name. He manages the bar and wait staff.” He was also the one most of the employees within Dusk confided in.

She leaned back into the couch slightly, crossing one of her legs over the top of the other. “We all live on the premises as well, Dusk is our home as much as it is our occupation so we are always available. I am curious to know what experience you have, besides your workplace exploding, we could always start with your name.” The woman had been trying so hard to make a good impression that she had completely forgotten to introduce herself. The amusement in her golden eyes suggested it wasn’t something she was about to hold against her.

Michelle listened intently, taking note of all the names she was being given. The woman she was talking to was indeed Sephyr, the man she had spoken with before was Nemetis. Vyrae was a manager, tended to take interest in new staff, which there seemed to not be much of. that probably meant she would be meeting the woman quickly if hired.

They all lived here? How could they all live here? She hadn't seen anywhere that could have possibly been living quarters... maybe they were located elsewhere? Whatever it was, it was probably better than her shabby apartment. Luckily rodents tended to vacate the premises when a big scary wolf thing was chasing them.

When Sephyr asked for her name, her face went beat red. Her body temperature was always abnormally high because of what she was, but even now she felt her face get hot. "Oh! I'm very sorry... My name is Michelle bloodmire. I've done some waitressing, but I've never really worked anything high intensity. I'm a fast learner and I move quickly, I'm also good with people. As for my work exploding, I promise that wasn't my fault. Some metas tried to rob the restaurant I worked in and some metal cop lady showed up and destroyed the place fighting them. Her partner looked pretty embarrassed..."

“It is a pleasure to meet you Michelle.” She seemed to be light on experience, but Nemetis had no problem training new staff. “Everyone needs to start somewhere, and it is good to know that you do not have any bad habits.”

The rooms Sephyr had mentioned were the executive apartments located on the top floor. Only the four manages maintained residence within Dusk. Well, the four managers and Oscar. “I have something of an unusual question, and you are under no obligation to answer. But I am curious how you personally feel about meta humans?” Hearing her speak about the police officer tear apart her last place of employment, it was hard to determine her tone. Most people would have been beside themselves with awe or cursing and spitting on the ground.

Sephyr was curious, both curious and cautious. Meta humans were not always viewed favourably, and there was almost no doubt at all that the redhead was something more than human. Still, Michelle could have proclaimed they were all monsters and the owner of Dusk would not have been offended. Maybe amused her, but never offended.

The question caught her off guard, almost enough that she nearly blurted out that she was a lycan and really had no room to talk. "Oh I uh I've never really had a problem with them, some seem to really abuse their power but there are people out there that aren't human that are just trying to live normal lives right?"

Like me.

She wasn't really sure how to answer that question, but she was hoping that was sufficient. She had been ready for personal questions like school, or life, or criminal records. Instead she got caught off with a question about her feelings toward meta humans.

“Thank you for your honesty.” Sephyr let her off the hook, normally she had no problem watching people squirm. But there was something genuine about Michelle that she didn’t want to lose. “Come with me.” It was less a request and more of a directive as the elemental bounced off the couch and started to make her way through the open door.

“The reason that I ask is because a lot of our clientele are different and I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.” Or to insult them. Every other vanguard member who walked through her door was a meta human to some degree. The average person in Niwa was still human and they were the ones Sephyr was more worried about tearing up her bar. With about one exception... there was one supernatural creature who was costing her a fortune in repairs. She would have slowed her steps to match them with Michelle, a dozen different things running through her mind.

The office, Sephyr’s main office was located on the first floor. To anyone who was not familiar with Dusk, the ground floor made up the foyer and the balconies which overlooked both the Lounge and the Nightclub. The main floor of both sections was located down a level which matched the outdoor entertainment area built out over the water. Besides the offices on the first floor, there was the restaurant and the kitchen. It was the second floor which had been converted into the apartments.

However, it was not much of a tour Sephyr was taking the other woman on. Her feet carried her back to the front foyer, but instead of heading down the stairs she lingered by the balcony overlooking the entranceway. “Vyrae does thorough background checks on all potential staff, so I am more interested in who you are personally.” Somehow she managed to say it in a non creepy way. “I want to make sure that Dusk is going to be a right fit for you and where your life is heading right now.”
