| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? The scene of the street below her had not changed for hours. It was already well into the night and there was no signs of the one person she was looking for. Had Vi been right? Was this the place? Of course it was the place ... Shae knew what Vi did and vice versa. Only Vi had the availability to be constantly monitoring every speed, traffic and security camera within the city and run facial software looking for the escaped convict. Given her knowledge that he was mixed in with the Triads she was able to limit that search to Chinatown. But three times Vi had captured him returning to the same building in the slums of Chinatown. It was the worst area in the neighbourhood. Not that it bothered the C.R.A.S.H. Lieutenant as she stared down the barrel of her sniper rifle. She could have fitted it for anti material rounds, but she was only trying to kill one person. A .50 calibre bullet through the head was hard for anyone to come back from. Event with dampening, the rifle was impossible for her to handle without support. It would have ripped her shoulder right out of the socked if she tried to free fire it. But if it meant killing McAlister, she may have done it. Giving Xander the slip had been the hardest part. She loved the over protective cub more than she had probably ever told him, but this was something she needed to do alone. The last thing she wanted was Peter or Jon feeling like they needed to save her again. She couldn’t handle the idea of Jon getting shot again. Plus this, this was the thing she told Jon she needed to do. McAlister didn’t strike her as the kind of creature who gave up. Being afraid for the people Shae cared about was all the motivation she needed. He had made this personal. Shae had been prepared to stay there for the next three days if she needed to. Though it was going to be tough with only one bottle of water. The fourth floor room she was in had been abandoned. That didn’t mean someone wasn’t going to show up at some stage and lay claim to it. But the sight of the C.R.A.S.H. Lieutenant with the sniper rifle set a few metres back from one of the windows should have been a pretty strong deterrent for almost any thug. She still had her side arm and she had even worn a vest for the excursion. There would be no more sitting around, no more waiting for him to decide if she got to live or die. One way or another, she needed this to be over. |

Emily had to change up her hunting ground every couple weeks or so to keep the local thugs from catching onto her game. When the young vampire got hungry she would go to a bad neighborhood in form fitting clothing and wait for someone to make a move on her. Usually it was your average human thug, preying on young women walking around alone at night in a bad area. 'She is just asking for it.' They always seemed to think, but she supposed that meant they were 'just asking' for her to sink her fangs in them. About an hour into her little stroll her heightened hearing picked up soft footsteps behind her, slowly advancing on her. She wouldn't turn around, that would ruin the fun. If she turned and attacked now, she ran the risk of it just being someone trying to get off the street before the scary people came out. Way too late for that, sadly. Just a little closer and she would know. She was almost licking her lips in anticipation. She didn't attack good people, so she waited for the bad ones to come to her, and oh my were they plentiful. |

There was nothing wrong with a pre-midnight stroll, was there? No. This was a night of victory, blood shall weep form the heavens as all who cross him. With each confident step he relived the evening’s events as he gripped hold of his prize. The slight opening and close of his jaw would be visual to the outside world as he wondered how such a little guy like that could pack such a punch. Something had to be said about the skill of a dedicated Damascus forger and a ninety year old black belt. The smile ran along his lips as he recalled entering the forge, it smelt like ash and smoke as he searched for a blade fitting of his stature. It would have been so easy to simply ‘take’ the closest blade and make a run for it. Since when did Brit cut corners? The Katana he found reached the floor with an extended arm, it was perfect. Although unfinished as the handle remained un-strapped with no signs of a hilt, while the sheath lacking the usual embellishments. It suited Brit. Rough around the edges, and capable of immense harm. It was the weapon smith that proved to be Brit’s biggest hurdle, who knew the silent alarm would only trigger the craftsman and not the police. In response to Brit’s actions, the third degree black belt decided to test if this petty thief was in fact worthy of such a weapon. It was respect which resulted in Brit’s newly acquired blade to never leave its scabbard. Killing an elderly person, no matter their intent seemed to leave a bad taste in his mouth. And he was only borrowing it... Brit had no martial arts training, simply put he only copied what he saw in the movies... But this guy looked like something out of Kung Fu Panda... All skin and bones, a little like Mantis as his flurry of blows connected at multiple points of Brit’s arm chest and jaw. The same side he tried to wiggle back into place. It would have continued, but it was only until Brit used his illusion to cancel himself out from the room that the elderly man paused with a smile. Brit stood at point blank range, he was still capable of attacking the man, possibly even killing him if he took it to that extreme. But it was the moment he said ‘Rippana.’ Before giving a slight bow... ‘Rippana... hmmm.’ He decided to go with ‘Rippa’ instead maybe it was something to look up later tonight. While he nursed his pride... If they were any younger, they would have made it to the obituaries in tomorrow’s newspaper without a second thought. Somehow he ended up trailing behind some girl in a skimpy outfit... ‘Now that doesn’t look a little suspicious...’ His eyes ran over her figure with little more thought than why not call for a taxi? No really as if she doesn’t have a cell... Hidden in all the places girls usually hide things. Oh yes, he knew about those places... Ever tried an illusion with ‘that’ as a distraction? I didn’t think so... ‘Home sweet home...’ A natural smile ran along his lips as he veered across the street, it was natural to simply hold onto the sheath of the sword as he walked. It was a natural deterrent for any idiot who wanted to interfere with his midnight stroll. Pity for the wayward cheerleader, he caught two distinct figures at the corner of his eye as he walked into his lavish foyer of debris, dust and concrete. Maybe he stopped them from making themselves known until now, whatever the case, she was not the Police Girl... And he was not some doo gooder hero, Niwa has too many of those around. |

Maybe she wasn’t going to have to wait so long after all. The familiar red of Brian McAlister’s hair passed under one of the street lights in the direction of the building. Through the magnification of her scope there was no mistaking the man who had tried to kill her and had been hounding her steps ever since. Why was she waiting? She had the shot... the woman in front of him was far enough away that she would not have been in any danger. Her finger curled around the trigger. This was her freedom, her escape. The threat was about to end right here and now. Her breathing slowed, her heartbeat pacing out, her finger pressing back on trigger. A millimetre further and the flawlessly sighted weapon would have echoed through the street. But then he paused... he stood perfectly still on the stairs and instead of taking the perfect shot her sights naturally shifted to the woman who held his attention. She looked little more than a girl ~ dressed like that in this neighbourhood?! It should have been even more reason to kill him! But as the sight swung back, there was something else that McAlister’s attention drifted towards. Two thugs making their way towards the girl... it was the police officer in her that made her hesitate. She could have finished him. But the need to protect people was stronger than her own vengeance. By the time she looked back she had lost her clear shot as Brit walked into the building. “Shit!” It was a split second decision... either shoot him or do something about the girl walking down the street with obvious company! The girl in question rounded the next corner and she couldn’t keep watch on her from there. A second later ~ the door to the abandoned room Shae had been in slammed behind her and she raced towards the stairs. It was going to take her time to get to the street level. Her hand pressed against her sidearm as she went down the stairs, reassuring herself that she was armed for whatever was waiting around that corner. Her only hope was that she was not going to be too late. |

The man following her had gone into a building, leaving her alone. Awe, so much for an easy meal. Her eyes shifting forward as she saw two shadows slip out of sight into an alleyway just ahead of her raised her spirits. Oh how lucky she was that she was getting a two for one deal? She quickened her pace, not wanting to leave them waiting. As expected as she passed the alley way she was grabbed and yanked into it. How kind of them, taking her away from any witnesses that might pass by while she eats? Such gentlemen, honestly. She was pinned against a wall, giving her a good look at the man. He was maybe in his thirties, hadn't shaved in days. Probably was going to shave after he found a victim to make it harder to identify him. He was wearing all black, including a black cap. Nothing to cover his neck though, really, how great was this guy? "Well well, seems we got a pretty little catch today. Skinny, looks like she works out. Great tits too." His hand reached up to grab one, his hand being caught in a vice grip. "I do work out, actually, and there is only one man who gets to touch those." She looked at him with a gleam in her eye, excited for what would come next. "What? Hey, what the fuck lady let me go!" His friend joined in, trying to pry her arm away. She placed her palm flat against his chest before launching him across the alley into the adjacent wall, knocking him out cold. The arm being pulled on by the other man shoved him as well, knocking him into a pile of garbage. She swooped in on that man that had tried to touch her, biting into his neck and drinking heavily before his friend even fought his way out of the pile of trash. She left enough for him to live, barely. His friend dug his way out of the trash just in time to see her pulling away, blood dripping from her fangs as she wiped her mouth. He fell backward again in a panic, realizing what was happening. "Don't hurt yourself, someone needs to get him to a hospital and it won't be me." She left the alley, feeling her strength returning now that she was fed. She heard a cry nearby, female. It seems she would be breaking up another attack, and she would need to hurry before it was too late. ---- a few minutes sooner: Shae would be running down the stairs to help a girl that did not need helping, but as she exited she would be grabbed and pulled into the alley next to her lookout. The man who grabbed who would easily overpower her despite his smaller frame, and she would be shoved and pinned against a wall. "My my my, such a pretty young thing. So tasty looking." He licked her neck, right along the jugular vein. "Such soft, silky skin. You moisturize don't you? How very thoughtful of you." Shae would likely assume she was about to be raped, right up until fangs extended from the man's canines. His mouth inched slowly toward her neck, wanting to baste her in fear as it added such a sweet taste to her blood. He never got his bite though, as his was grabbed and yanked away from her, slamming him into the stone wall behind him hard enough to leave cracks in it. Emily stood between them, glaring at him. She looked over her shoulder at the woman who was almost a meal, looking her over. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" |

There was strength and then there was strength. Had she screamed? The man who grabbed her the moment her feet touched the street moved her with enough force she could have been a rag doll. Shae managed to pull her gun from its holster only for it to be knocked from her hand before she was slammed against the wall of the alleyway. What the hell was happening?! A sickening sensation coiled in the pit of her stomach as she looked at her assailant. It was like trying to move Lyn, the creep’s grip was like steel. She heard the words, her head still swimming from the impact against the wall, she saw his fangs... The revulsion as his tongue dragged across her neck. She was sick of being a victim! Fighting was doing her no good, but she wasn’t about to give up. She’d done that once before! Never again. The fangs had pressed against her neck, indenting but not piercing her skin a heartbeat before the vampire was ripped away from her. Crumpling to the ground there was nothing Shae could do. Her gun was somewhere back in the street and her rescuer had thrown the bloodsucker between them and the exit to the dead end alley. “I’m alright...” Was she? Some guy had just tried to bite her neck, could someone really be alright after that?! But her adrenaline induced state of fight or flight was already in overdrive. The girl in front of her was slightly taller than Shae and the exact same girl she had seen down the scope of her rifle. The one she had come down here to rescue, the one she had given up her chance of killing McAlister to save. Yet she was the one who needed saving... |

Emily nodded when the woman said she was alright. "I'm glad I made it in time, this creep doesn't know how to hunt properly." He stumbled as he moved away from the wall, she hit hard it seemed. "Alright, two meals for the price of one. I won't argue with that." He charged again, moving to punch Emily. With ease she caught his wrist and punched him in the ribs so hard there was an audible crack before he stumbled away from her. "You are a pathetic excuse for a vampire, preying on those who can't defend themselves. Get out of here before I reduce you to ash." Growling angrily, he bared his fangs before retreating. Satisfied, Emily turned around, offering a hand to the woman. "I'm sorry I didn't get here before he attacked you, but at least I stopped him from biting you." |

With everything else in the messed up world, why not Vampires. There were certainly enough cases in the NCPD database to suggest they were long term residents within Niwa. Watching the creature that attacked her retreat, Shae was finally able to feel the injuries she had sustained. Roughed up and a mild concussion, but nothing life threatening. “Thank you.” There wasn’t much else Shae could say. She seemed to forget that she was in the worst part of Chinatown, of course crap like this was bound to happen. It had been ignorance to think she could control a situation down here. “I didn’t really want to end up a snack.” Her hand wiped at the place he had licked her neck, would a shower have been able to clean that off. “I saw two men following you and I wanted to help you.” There shouldn’t have been any police down here. There were some places that just weren’t worth saving. Her stupid idealistic notions had almost gotten her killed, or eaten. “How did you..?” Stop it? Save her? Scare it away? Shae was suddenly feeling very human. |

The woman saying she saw the men following her made her a bit nervous. "Oh, them uh... yeah it turned out okay. I'm a tough girl after all." When the dreaded question of how came up, Emily laughed nervously and rubbed the back of her head. "Well you see, I..." I'm one of them, but if I told you that you wouldn't believe me that I'm not going to bite you. "I..." She was saved from having to explain, but not in any way she would have liked. "So it was you." A smooth, noble sounding voice appeared in the alley with them. "It is always a pity when one of my children is the reason my food gets away." Emily stiffened at the sound of the voice, that voice was burned into her mind forever. What was confidence in her eyes was now a morbid fear for Shae to see. Emily looked back at the woman, pleading. "Run, please run." |

Shae was still trying to pull herself together. In the middle of an intense situation she was all cool, calm and decisive. The moment everything started to calm down was another story completely. Whatever the other woman had been trying to say had not come out right. Or maybe there was no right way to say it. The one beautiful thing about Shae, she never would have pushed for an explanation... but the voice which echoed around them. There was nothing, no one Shae could see at least. The voice was everywhere all at once. In the near darkness of the alley, it was like the blood drained from the other woman’s face, and she was pale to begin with. Run?! Run where? The only place Shae was running was for her sidearm she could see at the entrance to the alley. But for the girl to look that scared... Shae’s heart rate elevated again, if it had really had a chance to slow. It was only a dozen metres between her and the gun. But she couldn’t see anything between her and it. For a girl who had faced down a vampire... whatever owned that voice had her terrified. Shae raced towards the entrance of the alleyway, not to abandon the girl ~ never that. She was going for her gun. |
