Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

“Ms de’Oraelis, an officer has been advised of your injuries and should be attending you shortly.”

Sephyr wanted to groan, slumping down on the mattress in her cell she tried not to wince. “If it is all the same to you Vi, I would rather just wallow in my own self pity for a while longer.”

There was a long pause, one of those moments that always made her second guess that it was a computer. “I will inform the officer that you have refused medical treatment.” There was almost something compassionate about Vi’s voice, like human understanding.

“Thank you.”

Day 5
Her side still ached, reminding her that she had not been fast enough, but it was getting better. It only pinched every now and then when she moved the wrong way. Once with his fist and the second time with his knee ~ the Captain had done a number on her. For the thousandth time she wondered what would have happened if she had not stopped. If he had continued to press her... would he have stopped? Could she have by that stage?

Peter Valenco was the complete opposite of Sephyr, she was passionate, fiery, and he was emotionally void. Had he scared her? Not as much as she scared herself... she thought she had it under control. But it was not something that she could leash and chain up somewhere. It was a living breathing part of herself. Most of the time it was involuntary reflex, and the sooner she was able to accept that it was not controllable, the sooner she could get to dealing with it. It was the madness she feared, sinking into the raw emotions and the burning pit where all she could remember was flames and insatiable hunger.

She was a different kind of monster.

Whatever his reasons, the Captain had avoided her since the incident in the Training Room. Most of the officers avoided her and she kept her out of cell activity to a minimum. Besides the deepening bruise on her left cheek, it was the split lip which gave her the most grief. Every time she smiled, spoke, laughed, ate... she would split it open again.

"Oh, was that it?" Peter said, shaking his head. "It seems I will need to speak with my lieutenant after this then." He outstretched his hand, closing it like he was holding something before a sword formed out of a faintly glowing purple energy in his hand. His left arm formed a rectangular shield, a smirk formed on his face. "I am not so fragile that you need to worry so much about me. If I had known it was losing control of your powers you were concerned about, we have a bunker for meta fights. Otherwise how is Lyn going to train?"

This certainly wasn't the extent of his power, but no point in throwing up all those crazy barriers to prove a point. "I would say a truce over food isn't a bad arrangement. You aren't a bird eater, are you? A woman who can hold her meal is a lot more impressive than a soup and salad diner." He was teasing, of course, but this was a lot of food.

If every serial killer is someone we least expect, are we safest around those we expect will kill us?

Sephyr watched with a sense of wonder as the sword and shield formed in his hands. Peter was more knight in shining armour than she had given him credit for. “Even if I had know about your meta sparring room... it isn’t something I would have chanced unleashing.” She rarely showed off her abilities and almost never to their full extent. Yet she wanted him to know. Holding out her hand the flames formed in her palm, seeming to burn along her skin before. The flames themselves were small, but like any fire, beautiful to look at. “Imagine this.” Sephyr held out the flames for a moment longer. “This... and only this.”

She didn’t know how to tell someone she was an elemental in human form. That she could turn an enclosed room into a furnace within a few seconds and flash burn all the oxygen out of the air. Would his shields have been able to save him then? When the building started to melt around them. Her hand closed over the flames extinguishing them as easily as she had given them life.

“Some abilities are better left chained.” Her golden eyes looked back to him, the smile on her lips was softer than it usually was, the walls she kept firmly in place cracking slightly. “I can’t always control what I am, and that side of me is a different kind of monster. If things had kept going the other day, it wouldn’t have been me in there.” She wanted him to understand, and somehow underneath it all she didn’t want him to be afraid of her.

If that were even possibly.

“But I promise I do not eat like a bird.” Sephyr finally pushed away the confession of what she was in favour of their truce terms. “I have a craze high metabolism so I can out eat most people.”

"So you are like a real life human torch?" Peter asked, amused. "I just create indestructible barriers. So I could probably contain you if you did go nuts, but what happens after you run out of steam? Do you just go back to normal?" He was genuinely curious about how her power worked. He was still learning his own power, but knowing things about everyone else was something he prided himself in.

"Good, because if I ended up eating all this food I don't know what I would do with it all. I would be burning it off for hours, no doubt. I'm thankful for that gym, let me tell you."

"For the most part I do not understand it. What happens for me is completely different than what other people describe." That was a strange way or putting it, but when she shifted she ceased being the woman as she understood herself to be and turned into a creature of living flames which only understood hunger and emotions. "I usually don't have a lot of memory from the shift either. All I seem to be able to remember are the things I am passionate about. Friends, lovers, ideals... and I would assume enemies." It was not that she was particularly emotional about the last one, but she had reduced more than a few men who had threatened her or something she loved to a charred corpse.

"As for when I've exhausted everything I can burn..." There was a slight look of pain on Sephyr's features. Even without the bruise on her cheek it was easy to see the wince. "At best I'm disorientated... at worst........." She didn't really finish that statement. Worst case scenario was pretty easy to piece together. She wanted to believe she would always stop short of killing herself. But she was not about to bet her life on it. Peter wouldn't have any problem filling in the blanks.

Instead of dwelling on what she did not know or understand, or even the limitations of her own abilities, Sephyr turned her attention to the platter of food. She found the first delectable thing and popped it into her mouth. As promised, there was no bird like nibbling on the one thing for hours on end.

"Sounds like a pretty scary power." Peter answered, cutting into his ham. So that was you that night at the STUFT! factory... He wouldn't say that out loud, but he had pieced together something that had been puzzling him. "So I'm guessing you don't let that out very often. What do you do to burn off your holiday meals then? I usually hit the gym. After we eat, we can try being workout partners again if you like. No sparring this time though, purely fitness. You can have first dibs on the shower afterward. Most of the officers have just started showering together lately, but I don't know how you would feel about that."

Peter wasn't putting any moves on, but he remembered Shae's reaction to the over crowded shower. She didn't seem to mind just him, but Jon and Lyn and practically mauled her so he made a point to let her shower alone after that. Caitlyn always showered at home, but the couple times she had showered there she was in and out too fast for anyone to walk in on her.

Working out was just his pass time, considering he didn't have anything left. He did get lonely sometimes, but he was afraid to let anyone near him because they always died.

"I dance." The response came so naturally. She wasn't about strength, though she didn't lack it. Her area of focus was in her agility. "Not the lap kind or any other that requires I take off my clothing. As a child I learned ballet. It was the one thing which grounded me." She started poking around on the plate again looking for anything which was bite sized first and foremost. By the time she had swallowed that the smile was pretty well cemented on her full, yet still split, lips. "I was one of those little girls who grew up wanting to be a ballerina... but then I hit puberty and ended up too tall of all things." Sharing her misplaced childhood dreams should have been awkward, but Sephyr could have been talking about anything. She didn't have walls... nor was she a guarded or particularly private person when it came to herself. "It never stopped me from dancing though, anything and everything I could learn." She could have stayed thin lounging on a sofa in front of a television all day every day. But that wasn't going to help her fitness.

"But I would like that." She responded to his offer for a workout afterwards. Even showering after that, she was already familiar with the single shower in the station. The smile still tugged at the corners of her mouth as she watched him. Like all great mysteries that needed to be enjoyed rather than solved, Sephyr didn't know the first thing about the C.R.A.S.H. Captain. But he seemed to know a lot about her... whether he voiced it or not. It was time to level the playing field. "So what did you want to be when you grew up?" Her accent was always there, the softer french tones.

Peter almost choked on her food when she commented about not doing any dancing like lap dances or anything that required removing her clothes. "That certainly wasn't the first place I went, when a woman says she is a dancer I tend to give the benefit of the doubt that they keep their clothes on throughout."
He laughed softly, shaking his head. "Puberty is a bitch, isn't it? I shot up like a weed when I was 14. Awkward motory control and everything."

He was tempted to ask if 'anything and everything' involved her first statement, but he felt like that might be rude. "I never was a dancer." Even Peter's childhood was something that was painful to think about, but that was a single event. "I always got into sports instead. Once I got over the awkward growth phase, I filled out and was a menace on the football field." He was talking about american football of course, but she might not know that.

She asked him what he had wanted to be when he grew up. A question he should have seen coming, but he was still somewhat unprepared for it. "At first I wanted to be an astronaut, but when I was twelve I changed my mind. I wanted to become a police officer to get bad people off the street since the guys who were already cops weren't doing their job well enough." He let out a short, pained laugh. "Now that I am one, I realize there are just too many out there for the few cops to stop. It is why I haven't done anything about the vanguard, because they can cross the red tape I cannot to make the streets safer." He ate a spoon full of mashed potatoes and gravy, shaking his head like he wanted to clear those thoughts out of his mind. "Anyway, let's eat up so we can go put the energy to good use."

He wasn’t really one for small talk, she was sensing that in there as well. Peter constantly needed to be doing something. It might have been interesting to tie him down into a conversation. There was no telling what she would learn. Another time maybe... if she had any reason to be consorting with the law. It was nice, in a strange roundabout way. Sephyr did not need to pretend to be something she wasn’t. Or more accurately she did not need to hide what she really was. The Captain knew she was a member of the Vanguard, and he did not hold it against her.

Not in the traditional sense of looking at her like a criminal.

She did not rush their meal, but she didn’t ask any more prying questions. Even if the damage was already done as far as childhood flights of fancy went. That was about as incriminating as it got. More than anything Sephyr was curious where this new found friendship was going to take them. Would it have existed beyond the walls of his precinct?

Somehow the thought of running into Peter again, even in the streets, even on the receiving end. It didn’t sound as bad as it should of. For more reasons than his acceptance the Vanguard was a necessary evil.
