| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? “Ms de’Oraelis, an officer has been advised of your injuries and should be attending you shortly.” Sephyr wanted to groan, slumping down on the mattress in her cell she tried not to wince. “If it is all the same to you Vi, I would rather just wallow in my own self pity for a while longer.” There was a long pause, one of those moments that always made her second guess that it was a computer. “I will inform the officer that you have refused medical treatment.” There was almost something compassionate about Vi’s voice, like human understanding. “Thank you.” Day 5 Her side still ached, reminding her that she had not been fast enough, but it was getting better. It only pinched every now and then when she moved the wrong way. Once with his fist and the second time with his knee ~ the Captain had done a number on her. For the thousandth time she wondered what would have happened if she had not stopped. If he had continued to press her... would he have stopped? Could she have by that stage? Peter Valenco was the complete opposite of Sephyr, she was passionate, fiery, and he was emotionally void. Had he scared her? Not as much as she scared herself... she thought she had it under control. But it was not something that she could leash and chain up somewhere. It was a living breathing part of herself. Most of the time it was involuntary reflex, and the sooner she was able to accept that it was not controllable, the sooner she could get to dealing with it. It was the madness she feared, sinking into the raw emotions and the burning pit where all she could remember was flames and insatiable hunger. She was a different kind of monster. Whatever his reasons, the Captain had avoided her since the incident in the Training Room. Most of the officers avoided her and she kept her out of cell activity to a minimum. Besides the deepening bruise on her left cheek, it was the split lip which gave her the most grief. Every time she smiled, spoke, laughed, ate... she would split it open again. |

Much as he hated to admit it, he was a bit... well... lost. But then, he didn't get lost, not with his keen senses, which made it rather a problem. Most of all for the fact that the place he was lost in was the place he was expected to stay as a recent transfer to C.R.A.S.H. who was just previously a homeless (by choice, mind) NCPD officer on the streets. That any grasp of technology was almost non-existent to him, such that it was a wonder he even had the first clue how to use his issued phone, didn't exactly help the matter. Still, wherever precisely he was, he could at least loosely identify as cells of some description. And better yet, with this silly 'holiday' that he needed nothing to do with in effect and a bit too much alcohol, among other things, starting to come out, well... here with fewer people and no crowd of any sort was much better than some alternatives. After all, if there was anyone that lacked any sense of 'holiday cheer,' it was certainly him... but how could one blame him, with the way he looked? He wasn't exactly the life of a party, unless that party involved some sort of monster hunt; not with his fur, snout, ears and tail that were vulpine rather than human. More than being away from people, though, here was certainly a... curious scent to follow. Like fire, but... different somehow? Inherent curiosity led him to casually follow it, before he paused and cast a sidelong glance with his crimson eyes toward the woman that it had led him to. Someone that looked likely as bad as he'd felt after just about any given, reckless brawl he tended to get himself into, lacking any combat discipline otherwise. "Hrm... so whatcha in fer, then? Arson or somethin'?" he curiously inquired, his eyes scanning carefully over the cell and the woman herself to see if he might find some hint to that curious scent. "Mus' be somethin' bad if you're lookin' like that without anyone apparently treatin' ya, unless you're jus' sittin' down here to get away from people or somethin' anyway. Not like I don' know the feelin', all this stupid 'holiday' stuff goin' 'round..." he grumbled slightly, shortly enough turning his eyes simply to the woman's face, where they lingered only briefly on that split lip and the bruise. Things he'd probably had a number of times, but the fur always did quite well in hiding them, along with the miscellaneous scars that still lingered here and there. |

“Murder actually.” The warm tones of her French accent ever present. Sephyr looked up at the creature on the other side of her open gate. Furry one... but who was she to judge. Her best friend was a gargoyle. She did not move off the bed. Approaching the officer after she just told him she was a murderer was not the best way to make friends. Even if the gate to her cell had been closed. “You will have to excuse me if I do not have much in the way of holiday cheer.” She smiled, half smiled ~ just enough so her lip wouldn’t split open again. “I did not know C.R.A.S.H. had a K9 unit.” There was something playful in the way she spoke, humour without any genuine malice behind it. She had hoped to see Mercer or Nottingham again. Truthfully, she was curious how Officer Mercer was getting along with the number she was given. Gavin hearing about her extended stay in the CRASH cells was not really something she wanted to share. From what she had figured out, no one had given her name to the media. But what would they really have said about her? ‘Owner of Dusk stops armed assailants from threatening Lounge.’ The media would paint her a hero one week and then a villain the next just to milk the story. And Gavin would have just stared at her in that way of his. She had well and truly burned that bridge. “What can I do for you officer?” It was too much to hope that he had come to tell her she was free to go. Paperwork had a way of stopping for the holidays. So she just waited patiently for him to say whatever it was he had come to say. At least it wasn't Officer Creepy. The one who wandered past her Cell a few times the day she arrived and made a point to be the one bringing her meals. |

Murderer, huh? Well, whatever... he'd dealt with plenty of the like in the past, so even hearing it openly admitted now wasn't going to be enough to make him so much as flinch. And indeed he didn't, almost dismissively giving a slight nod at the little revelation and nothing more. "Nothin' fer the 'holidays' fer you either, huh? Well, not like I can talk; livin' mostly on the outskirts don' exactly give much knowledge of the sorta thing anyway," he idly shrugged, idly leaning back against the bars of the cell opposite the woman's, just for the sake of having something to rest against. Something not particularly comfortable, but still something, and small favors for nobody being held in that cell. Then they'd probably grab him, he'd quite possibly break at least one of their bones, then he'd get yet another reprimand for it; trouble all 'round. No, he didn't need that today, not when everyone was being so sickeningly cheerful. "What can I say, tha's prob'ly all they called me in fer, 'cause they don' have any good ears or noses besides," he offered with a slight smirk. "As fer what ya can do, who knows. Little company maybe, away from the annoyin' crowds an' silly lights an' junk 'round the area... maybe even at least givin' me some sorta hint why somethin' in yer cell, maybe even you, smells kinda like fire," he suggested, his eyes slightly narrowing in curiosity. "Not that I can expect people to just let stuff be one-sided, though, o' course. Anythin' ya might happen to need down here at the moment, I may be one o' the best people to ask. Nobody pays me too much attention past avoidin' me most of the time, an' I already get in trouble fer a lot o' the stuff I do. What's a little more to help someone out a bit on a day like this that's... apparently s'posed to be happy for whatever reason," he offered, rather genuine in his intent, if his features and the fact that he'd pushed himself back up off the bars of the opposite cell and walked over to the woman's was any indication. "Oh, right... an' name's Lance. Yours?" he asked, offering a hand through the bars without a single bit of hesitation or fear. Just how he was, really. |

(Sorry Lance, but Sephyr doesn’t smell, taste or sound any different to a normal person ~ she just runs a temperature and looks a little exotic) “Sephyr.” The vibe she gave him was that she wasn’t one for small talk ~ which was probably for the best. Lance, whatever he was, had not come up for air yet. She just watched him with a raised eyebrow from her bed, with no intention of moving to take his offered hand. Though why he would place it through the bars when the cell door stood open was beyond her. Nothing smelt off about the room, and unless Sephyr had been using the full extent her abilities ~ which she had not in about two months, there was no reason for the office to be accusing her, or anything around her, of reeking like an ashtray. “One on your officers decided to try and melt the bars the other day.” Sephyr pointed to the exact bar that Caitlyn had burned her grip into. But even that should have smelt like week old forged steel, not fire. Then again, she had no idea what the world smelt like to a canine creature. All in all she was wondering why he was there... company? There were a dozen other officers in the building, he didn’t need to resort to entertaining prisoners. Not a prisoner, Sephyr reminded herself. She was after all free to come and go from the cell as she pleased ~ just not the building. If she wasn’t a prisoner, maybe it was time she stopped sulking in her cell like one. Moving to the edge of the bed and letting her feet hang down over the edge, both of her hands were cupped against the corner of the mattress either side of her. “I doubt I am going to get you into any more trouble. Thank you for the offer, but I do not require anything.” |

The... bar? Oh... dammit. No wonder; metallic scents weren't something he cared for, nor always put much stock in. Inwardly grumbling slightly to himself at not even noticing that much, he gave a slight nod, deciding to leave it. It was either that or any more of his pride, after all. Didn't stop him casting a slight glare at the bar in question, granted. "Heh... plenty o' food an' drink an' other stuff 'round, prob'ly even some stuff somewhere for that lip an' cheek o' yours, an' ya really don' need anythin'? Tha's a new one, I figure," he offered with a little shrug. Not like he, socially awkward fox man as he was, could really talk, anyway. Even as some possible proof of that, his hands had already promptly returned to his pockets, where they didn't have to worry about trying to emulate any unfamiliar social gestures. "Ain't got much to do on my part anyway -- anythin's better'n bein' 'round people right now, prob'ly smellin' alcohol, dealin' with all those silly lights, an' bein' looked at like a freak -- but whatever suits ya, I guess. I'll go ahead an' run off, then, if ya like," he casually offered. It wasn't as though he could think of anything else if she really didn't want anything, after all, though it left him just as limited as before on options of what to do while getting away from everyone. |

"I think in this city, looking like a freak is someone who looks completely normal these days." Peter's voice showed up behind Lance, trying to ease the anxiety he seemed to have. "We have all sorts of not human looking people. Hell have you met Xander? Talking lion." He wasn't very good at socializing anymore, but you couldn't say he didn't try. He was holding a platter full of food, a peace offering if anything. "I brought some christmas dinner, so if you actually are planning to leave the lady will have nobody but me to share with." |

Sephyr had not intentionally been trying to run the fox off. But her lack of social decorum was showing. Of course, all the things he was complaining about made up the bulk of her world. Right down to the masses of ordinary everyday people who started at her and the few obvious meta humans she associated with like they were freaks. Looking like she did compared to being covered in hair was a different kind of freak label. Unfortunately she didn’t have her barman’s natural ability to listen to people complain about their current circumstances. She was the one sitting behind the bars, ignoring the open gate. If someone had a right to complain... it just wasn’t her style though. Seeing Peter actually pulled her lips into a smile. Pushing the limits before she ended up bleeding again. When it came to food, Sephyr was not shy. She loved good food, it was one of the things which made her popular with Jean, her head chef. There was no calorie counting, no complaining about what went into it. What was the point of a super fast metabolism if she couldn’t enjoy everything? Still she didn’t say anything. Peter had implied he was going to stay, and it was the first time she would have gotten to speak to him since... well. She would have waited. He had been the one to put her in the cell in the first place. Truthfully, she was more interested in how Lance was going to respond. He had been a huge step up from Officer Creepy. |

Whether the other officer chose to leave or not, Peter would move into the cell. "I guess I could call this a peace offering. My lieutenant chewed me out after our sparring match because I guess I went too far. I'm not very good at apologies, but I wanted to at least do something to make up for it." He took a deep breath, this was harder than he thought it would be. "I didn't mean to go so overboard on you. It seemed like just simple brute force wouldn't be enough to match you, and I got excited to be up against a skilled opponent instead of the usual street thug. I turned it up too much too fast I guess." He breathed out a heavy sigh, looking away from her. "My every day is violence, death and fist fights. It can be hard for me to distinguish between a friendly spar and a life or death fight. I probably should have told you that ahead of time." He set the food down on the bed since there wasn't anywhere else to put it. He extended his hand to her, a sheepish grin on his face. "Truce?" |

Sephyr had started shaking her head when he began explaining himself. “Peter, you didn’t go overboard.” The bruise on her left cheek and the split in her lip may have suggested otherwise, but Sephyr was a tough nut to crack. “I thought I could control my abilities better, but things very nearly got out of hand in there.” She ran her hand through her hair, brushing it back out of her face and apologising. It was the closest the redhead ever got to socially awkward. But she had meant every word. “I was rather looking forward to a rematch when I am not in danger of hurting you.” He was not the only one who lived in a world of violence. If only he knew how close she had come to losing focus that it had been a friendly spar and not life and death situations... he would not be the one standing there apologising. Sephyr was not a pyromancer... she needed to be abundantly clear on that fact. She was a living breathing elemental. That kind of temper and passion was not the easiest thing to contain. He was still holding his hand out to her for the offered truce. A smile ran along her lips and she winced as the split on her lip opened up again but she placed her hand in his. Not shaking it, just holding his hand. Had it been anyone else, it may have seemed awkward. “If you can survive a meal with me, then I think we can manage a truce.” She tugged him towards the edge of the bed. There was plenty of space to sit. “You are welcome to stay as well.” Sephyr offered to Lance. |
