| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? It was not a typical one size fits all cell. Sephyr did not know what amused her the most, that she was seeing another gaol cell from the inside again ~ or that she knew enough about incarceration to know the cell was anything but average. The walls were solid reinforced concrete and bars were solid enough to have given Gavin pause. The only other place she had seen a cell like this was in Osore. The NCPD were changing the way they played the game when it came to meta humans. She did not see a freezer though. That she waited patiently, leaning against the clean painted walls was all the indication she could give that she was here by her own choice. The Captain had offered to help her as much as he could if she was honest with him, and she had been. Helping her was not the same as erasing the whole event. And her statement... she had confessed to snapping the man’s neck. Murder was not a simple process. When Peter had brought her in she did not even have her purse on her. She did not really have much of anything. Her formfitting black evening dress that stopped at the top of her thighs and a pair of three inch heels. At least he had not taken those from her. It was not like she was sharing a cell with someone for them to get jealous over her designer shoes and attack her for them. The fiery redhead was the only current guest of the C.R.A.S.H. office. The everyday criminals were obviously still processed downtown. She should have been worried, but she wanted to believe Valenco. Whatever his motivation, he could have thrown the proverbial book at her and she could have already been back in Osore. This was bound to happen sooner or later. Trying to maintain a double life was not exactly easy. Most of the Vanguard members did not have day jobs they needed to show up for. They were full time vigilantes... but not Sephyr. She had to be an overachiever even in this. It had been the look on Nemetis’ face that had been the hardest to face... and Asmodeus. He had watched her take a man's life with her own hands. Even if it had all been for show, bringing her down here, signing off on her confession. The security tapes would have incriminated her anyway. The only thought that continued to plague her was that if she had been a police officer, they would have been giving her a medal or a promotion, or both. This was not how she intended on starting the next 25 years of her life. There wasn’t even a bed to sit on. It was like history was repeating itself, only Gavin didn't have a reason to rescue her this time ~ he didn't have a reason to rescue her last time either. |

Jon had took a step back and rested against the parallel cell from Sephyr. The mention of Caitlyn's last name seemed to hit something with the red head in the cell. Even if he didn't have a care for what it was for, he still was eager to see what Caitlyn was going to say. Which, with what was to follow was slightly surprising. Caitlyn had a brother, aye? That was something new and interesting. He couldn't help but wonder how they lost contact with one another, if Jon's sisters were still alive, he would always know where they were and how they were doing. Though he understood things happened, and he wouldn't fault Caitlyn for it. It was nice that she would be able to get into contact with him once more. Even if the red head seemed ill willing to giving it up. What was he, some type of vigilante? It's her brother, she deserved to get back in touch with him. It was when Caitlyn went towards the bars that Jon moved forward and put his hand onto her shoulder. COMPLETELY missing that she had began to destroy the bars herself... He could understand that she wanted to see her brother again. He would do anything to see his sisters again, but lunging towards a prisoner wasn't going to get it any easier. "It's alright Caitlyn." Jon's words were soft and caring. He cared for his fellow officers just as he would his family, and to see her upset wasn't something he was enjoying. As Sephyr responded, he lifted his head towards her. Her approach was followed by handing the pen and paper back, which he would let Caitlyn take. Though, the moment he saw her press her hands against the bars next to Caitlyn's, he pulled her away from the cell. It wasn't a rough pull, or anything, just a gentle movement to remove her from being so close to the bars. For good reason too, seeing the steel heat up as if it were going to melt, and then return back to its smooth appearance, told him he did right by pulling her away. Even if Caitlyn had really... started that herself, Jon had apparently missed it. Sephyr obviously could leave the cell at any time if she wanted to. The heat she radiated could bend the bars for her to escape, but let's be honest, would that do her any good? Jon wouldn't think twice about knocking out a beautiful woman, and as hot as she maybe, taking one of his punches to the face wasn't exactly a walk in the park. Edited by Star, Dec 23 2013, 06:47 PM.

When John pulled her back, she barely responded except for the short stumble back she did from being almost non responsive. In her hands, right now, that she was looking at, was the phone number of the long lost brother she had been seeking this entire time. She wouldn't see Sephyr melt the bars or hear Jon's kind, reassuring words. All she could focus on was that piece of paper. "If you will excuse me, I need to go make a phone call." Her voice was oddly monotone, calm. She was still completely in shock, and it hadn't truly hit her yet. It was fortunate, as the excitement might burn up the paper in her hands before she ever dialed that number. She turned quickly and bolted away from the two, heading for the phone she had in her room. This was an important moment for her, all or nothing. Would he even answer? She couldn't know, she wouldn't until she dialed. Just please don't fry the phone in excitement before she got a chance to talk to him... |

Caitlyn may have been ready to speak to Gavin, but the elemental did not presume to know if he was ready to find his sister again. He made a point to only surround himself with people who were capable, people who could be accounted for themselves if things went south. And it was generally only a matter of time before they did. The Vanguard were waging a war on the crime in the city, there was always going to be casualties. The younger Mercer sibling could obviously handle herself though. Melting bars was no joke. Then she was gone as fast as she had come, leaving Sephyr alone with Jon again. “Thank you again, for the bed and the blanket.” He seemed sweet enough, even if he was looking at her as though she was a monster. He should have seen what she could do with glass... She pushed herself back away from the bar which was still cooling in its own time. If all he had intended on doing was to bring her a few creature comforts, Sephyr expected him to turn and walk away. If he wanted to ask her questions, she had come here to make an official statement after all. Though that probably would have been to his Captain. Yet, for whatever reason her golden eyes lingered on him in a kind of silent curiosity. |

It was obvious that Caitlyn was both upset and eager to make that phone call. She had expressed to him just how much her brother meant to her, and so he could understand. If he hadn't seen his mother in that long, he would've already been out the door at to the phone. He wouldn't go after her, she needed to be alone in this moment. He had told her that if she needed anyone to talk to, cry with or just be next to that he would be there. Jon was their own personal teddy bear when it came to things like that; as long as that's all it was. No scrubbing one another's backs in the showers. Hearing Sephyr thank him for bringing her the bed and blanket caused him to return his attention to the red head. It was too bad she was in this situation, someone like her locked up for twenty-five to life was heartbreaking. "No problem, Sephyr." He called her by her first name this time, but for no particular reason. Jon couldn't help but stare back as she did to him, something about the way she looked at him had a tingle appear on the back of his neck. She was like a predator seeking its prey. He wondered how any normal officer would respond in this situation. Would they run away in fear or melt into those golden eyes. They were captivating, he couldn't deny it. Someone with that gaze could and would probably get away with anything; even murder. The teal haired officer now regretted not reading the police report. "Tell me," He leaned up and rested against her bars. "What happened to get you here? Off the record, I'm not here to get a statement. My captain will be taking your case. This is just out of curiosity." Hopefully she'd indulge him, if she wouldn't he'd end up going and reading the report. Even if it would be a waste of time, seeing as he wouldn't be touching this case at all. |

His question did not catch her completely off guard, but Sephyr wanted to answer it. She wanted to give the human response rather than just a recount for the official record. Leaning against the wall she would have been close enough to touch Jon, but after her little melting the bars back into place trick she rather doubted he would have welcomed her getting too close. “For the most part, I don’t know what happened. I didn’t know what they were after or what they thought they were going to get out of threatening my Lounge.” Her voice changed slightly, anger, defeat. She took no pride in what happened ~ that much was obvious. “One of the waitresses let me know that there was a problem... no sooner had I reached the table the four men were sitting at and everything started. They pulled weapons out and threatened everyone in the Lounge... I gave them the chance to leave peacefully. They didn’t take it.” Her liquid eyes shifted and seemed to reset again, they were constantly shifting and changing like molten gold. “I killed one of them and I am here because your Captain knows both who and what I am.” The designer dress and heels she wore strongly suggested she had not been wielding a weapon. “The men should never have been able to get past my security with weapons.” There were so many things which had gone wrong. Dusk was suppose to be beyond the violence which filled Niwa. Apparently it wasn’t. That in itself gave her the greatest sense of failure. |

The perverted officer was right about Sephyr. It sounded like self-defense, and the fact that they were holding her in a cell was completely unjustifiable. Why she was here, now, made no sense to Officer Nottingham. Why the captain was holding her was beyond him, and in all honesty he wanted to step over to his office and have her released. That was if she was telling the truth, just something about him said she was telling the truth. His gut was telling him that this woman had been a victim, and when his gut tells him something he tries to follow it. "I'm very sorry to hear that, Sephyr. Really I am. No one should ever be put into that situation. Taking a life isn't easy, us Officers know that all too well." Jon gave the girl a weak smile. "If there is anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask." He had definitely misjudged her from the get go. In his eyes, all criminals were the same until proven otherwise. Sephyr had proven that with her story. Whether he'd find out different or not was going to happen in the near future. "I apologize for seeming rude. You must understand the kind of people we deal with on a daily bases." Hopefully she wouldn't take it too personally. It wasn't meant to be that way. |

“You have nothing to apologise for, Officer Nottingham.” Sephyr meant every word of it, he had done nothing to offend her. “Your Captain has been nothing but accommodating towards me and if sitting in here for a while is all it takes for the whole thing to blow over ~ it is a small price to pay.” As for needing something, what could she possibly need? Sure she had been born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth. Money was the one luxury her family had afforded her. The rest of it... not so much. “There is one thing you could do for me... I never got a chance to express what is happening to my business partner. Nor is it really something I know how to say over the phone.” She pushed herself away from the wall as she completed the somewhat awkward request. “Would you be able to call him on my behalf.” The look on Nemetis’ face when she had been escorted out of the building by Peter was something she had never thought to see from the charismatic barman. But if she had to sum it up... he looked angry. “Especially if I end up staying in here for a while, it will make everything easier for Dusk.” A business partner... that was the extent of her one phone call, and Sephyr did not want to make it. No family, no boyfriend. It would have been harder to explain that she just gave her ex whateveritwastheywere’s phone number to Caitlyn. Now she had all the time in the world to sit there and work out what it was that she did want. As always, she had an almost comic sense of timing. Knowing Sephyr, she would finally figure it all out and spent the next 25 years keeping the bench warm in Osore. Yup, she was one in a million. |

Jon looked at the crimson haired woman and smiled widely at her. At least the captain was treating their guests right. He never saw the captain as a real ladies man, but maybe this was his way of flirting. His pearly whites disappeared as he listened to her ask a favor of him. It was curious as to why she would ask him to make a call to her business partner, not a boyfriend or family member. Maybe she was too proud to let them know, because god knows that a woman like this was single. Even if she was a killer--she WAS a killer, whether it be by choice or not--Sephyr was obviously a good catch for someone. "Of course, Sephyr. I'll go ahead and make that call for you. I'll be back to check on you in a few hours, if you are still here of course." With that, Jon gave her a light bow of the head and turned from her cell. He'd do what was asked of him, make the phone call for her and let the owner of the Dusk know what had happened. Normally they allowed their guests to do the call themselves, but it was obvious that Sephyr wasn't ready to do so. Jon could make himself useful in this situation. Right? |
