Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Sephyr was still leaning against the reinforced glass fencing which surrounded the outdoor entertainment area of Dusk, overlooking the waterfront view of the city. She heard the police pull up out the front. She had, after all, been waiting for them. Jess had made the call reporting the homicide at Sephyr's own request. Was homicide even the right word for it? The three armed men had managed to get past her security and start something with one of her customers. The same three armed men now lay on the floor of her Executive Lounge, two with snapped necks and the third with a bullet wound in his forehead. Did it matter that they had been brandishing their semi automatic weapons at her customers?

The crimson red head was tall for a woman, her heels pushing her just over the 6 foot mark, the short elegant evening dress clinging to her lithe form. Liquid gold eyes looked down at the glass in her hands before casually tossing it over the edge and into the water. The security cameras and two dozen eye witnesses, including her own staff, saw what happened. They saw her snap the last man’s neck. They were low level thugs, runners for one of the gangs. No one important enough for Sephyr to have taken notice of before tonight.

Her security staff would have shown the police to the bodies in the Lounge and pointed them through the double glass doors in her direction when the question of who was responsible came up. She had never stood in the aftermath before. Being a vigilante, things like this happened somewhere else, somewhere she could walk away from. But Dusk was her home. She already had a record with the NCPD. She and Gavin both had been at the heart of the prison riot back in spring. They only had her name and a list of known associates before tonight.

But that was about to change.

C.R.A.S.H. had recieved a call that Peter would be answering personally in order to keep the chaos caused to a minimum. Sephyr, one of Gavin's crew, had taken out somebody threatening to shoot up her club, at least that was how he had heard it. He was well aware who and what she was, at least where she stood in the city's crime. Since Peter knew who she was with as well as the fact the vanguard tended not to draw attention to themselves unless he had no choice, he would see to this himself.

He stepped through the glass doors that opened up into dusk night club. He presented his badge to security, who was wary of the small white lion following him, and was led to where the bodies were. One killed by a gunshot wound to the head, pretty obvious. The other two seemed to have come down with a sudden case of head facing the wrong way. "Where is she?" He asked simply as Xander sniffed around the bodies for evidence.

Once he was pointed in the right direction, he headed toward her alone. If the door was closed, he would knock. No point in going into this with no manners.

If every serial killer is someone we least expect, are we safest around those we expect will kill us?

Sephyr turned at the sound of the knock on the door frame. It was one of the more polite ways someone could have gotten her attention. Standing up straight she turned to face the, presumed, police officer in ~ she wanted to say plain clothing. However, the black trench coat was not exactly plain. Did she really need to see a badge? Security would not have let him through without one.

“Good evening Officer ..?” She was fishing for a name. Truth be told she had avoided, or managed to avoid police entanglements before now. Her French accent was more pronounced than it usually was, a reflection of the thoughts weighing on her mind. When she looked to him, the first thing she noticed was the eye patch. Her golden gaze would have lingered over his scars before returning to his one good eye.

Pushing away from the glass fencing she took a few steps in his direction, the still night air shifting around her and starting to warm again. Past his shoulder she could see the bodies still slumped on the floor and the unusual sight of a lion cub investigating the corpses. It was official her night was not going to get any stranger.

As he entered the room, he was finally able to place a face to the name Sephyr. A beautiful, fiery redhead who looked like she didn't put up with any bullshit. If Gavin had spoken of the officers he was close to, she would recognize his. "Peter Valenco. I assume your are Sephyr, the owner of this night club and the suspect in the murder of at least one of the men out there."

Closing the door behind him so nobody outside could hear, he looked up over at her, his eye locking on her. "Tell me what happened. Be perfectly honest, with all the witnesses and security footage I might be the only thing keeping you out of jail. If you would prefer, I can do my questioning at my headquarters. My office has no surveillance and I'm well aware of the fact you wouldn't have wanted all this attention here intentionally. You were forced to take action in front of all that attention, and I can help you. You just need to work with me."

It actually took a lot for Sephyr to pry her eyes away from the lion cub, closing the door to give them more privacy certainly helped. “Valenco.” She echoed his name, but there was no hint of recognition. He may have seen her name before, but to her he was a stranger. His comment about being completely honest brought a smile to her lips though. “Honesty is one thing I do not have any problem in. Please, step into my office.” She swept her arm across the outdoor decking inviting him to fall into step beside her. There would be a dozen different stories which would come out of the witnesses and even the security footage would only offer so much. She was a murder suspect, at least until she confessed to the act. After that the word suspect went out the window.

“If you are asking whether I killed one of the men in there, the answer is yes.” It was not something she admitted to lightly, but there was no remorse in her voice. If she had been standing in the situation again, she would have done the same thing. Without hesitation she would have killed the man. She waited for him at accept her offer before she started walking down the decking. Her eyes scanning out across the water. “I am more than prepared to work with you, but how exactly is it that you can help me?” Here or downtown made no difference to her. She knew every blind spot in her surveillance, the entire outdoor entertainment area was one of them.

He nodded at her request, following her out onto the deck. This was likely an intentional gap in security for these types of conversations. Peter knew this idea all too well considering he had a few areas even Shae could not watch them in.

"The first order of business is that two of the men had broken necks, one had a gunshot wound. Considering all three men were arms and two of them were killed up close and another with a bullet, that two of the men were killed by a weaponless opponent. An unarmed person defending themselves against armed assailants, awfully hard to break past a self defense claim. So tell me, which man did you kill?"

He avoided her question of how he could help her, but Sephyr was willing to go on a little faith. It was the nature of the business to ask questions and she had already offered her full cooperation. “The last one.” She admitted. Not that it really defined which man she killed and how. She did not start it, but it was clear she ended it.

“The ringleader of the group made the mistake of trying to stick his gun into the face of the man they had been following. A very short story, he ended up with his wrist snapped and his own gun pressed against his temple.” Short story was an understatement, it all happened in about the space of a second. Her footsteps finally slowed, midway down the decking she turned to look at Peter. Was he going to believe the next part?

“The situation went from bad to worse, like most situations do. His thugs started threatening my lounge and I tried to convince them to put down their guns and managed to get close enough to them.” The frown that crossed her features was gone again just as quickly. There was nothing heroic in what she did, though her patrons may have felt otherwise. “I put myself between them and the rest of the lounge. When the ring leader started screaming for them to take the guy out and lay waste to the Lounge... he got his neck snapped. The man they were following shot the second one with his bosses’ own gun and I killed the last.”

Justifiable? Maybe. Self defence? Probably. Excessive force? Against an armed man..?

“He left, the man they were following. All he gave me was his first name which may or may not have been real.”

"So you went up against three armed men unarmed and managed to come out on top while defending a guest in your own business. No matter what way you spin it, that is a solid self defense case. It might see a trial, it might get brushed off. Regardless, with the gang violence in this city a jury will see you as an innocent who got caught in something, and I can word my report to further that ideal." Even if she wasn't someone Peter had an interest in helping out, it was still an easy case to get out of.

"I'm still going to have to take you back to the station, put you behind bars, question you, all the fun stuff the brass needs to see. I'll see to it you are kept comfortable, but this will require a process."

All Sephyr could do was nod. Of course there would be a process... there was always a process. It was the next questioned that reached across the boundaries. “Why are you so willing to help?” The very little contact she had ever had with the NCPD had been awkward to say the least. She had no reason to trust the police, but something made her pause. Something in the way Peter regarded her the moment they first met.

He did not look at her like she had a pulse. But at no stage had he thrown the book at her and just brushed his hands of the whole event. How often did he get someone who was willing to confess to the act?

Sephyr tried to reel her curiosity back in, and failed, one look at his scarred visage only raised a hundred more questions. Why did he care?

"Gavin Mercer." Peter said shortly. "A man I will loosely call your boss is someone I've known for a while, and I was the officer who had to arrest him to go to the prison you two met in." Peter had read the reports of the big break out, those involved, the names of the inmates. Peter also had a short list of Gavin's crew that he should aid or step aside should they be dealing with a problem. He had pieced the two names together, and he liked knowing more than the other person did.

"I know what you guys do, and I know how you go about it. I can't exactly look down on you since that kind of activity is what got me shipped to Japan in the first place, and before I got assigned where I am now, I was still working alongside you guys. However, unlike the chief of police I do not just look away when one of your guys goes rogue, I'll take them out as well. Usually when I look into one of he jobs of cerberus, or as they are called now, vanguard, and help them get out of trouble I say they owe me a favor. Depending on how much trouble digging you out of this takes, I might say the same for you." His tone was completely dead pan, but there was a slight smirk on his face.
