Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

There were moments that Scarlett could look back and wish to return to them, then there were some that she wished to let be and never return to the thoughts themselves. Yet these past few months, she wanted to close her eyes and relive them over and over. Even the bad times, like being shot at in front of Dusk, she wanted all that to forever be implanted in her mind.

Holding out her hand, Scarlett smiled happily. She had been laying in bed all day, but for a good reason. She had been given the day off after her 'accident' and she wanted to recover fully. The doctors had made a house call, coming to her and removing the plate that was in her arm. It was a long processes, but because she didn't want to leave it was the only way. Not only was it a long processes, who knew that it would cost so much to have a private doctor come over at the last minute during the holidays to remove a plate that wasn't doing anything. The doctor had actually had to request her medical records be sent a second time because her shoulder was, basically, completely healed.

Thankfully he knew that there were healers in Niwa, and he wasn't going to question why she had her arm back to almost perfect condition. Given the fact she was stabbed with a seven foot sword all the way to the hilt.

Wraith had left that morning, like normal, and said he'd return by nightfall. Normally it was well past twelve when he showed up, but she didn't mind. Scarlett knew that he would always come home to her, and when he didn't she knew that he would have a good reason.

The sun had just set, the cool brisk breeze that was being let in through the open balcony window all but chilled her apartment. Scarlett had gotten out of bed just as the sun disappeared and went outside. The air at that height was amazing, it was one of the many reasons she wanted to be on the top level. That and the view, because, honestly what could beat the view of the city of Niwa at night? The only thing that came close was looking into Wraith's eyes as he made love to her. That was truly about it.

It was to be a normal night, she was going to cook dinner and probably head down to the gym and work out for a bit. Yet, what she couldn't expect was what was to happen in her building that night. The security there and the over protective staff barely let anyone in after a certain hour, unless they knew you or lived in the building. Wraith was one of those many known faces that entered the building every afternoon. Yet, for one they were not so recognizable.

While Scarlett moved back into her apartment, she kept the door behind her open and walked to the fireplace where she lit it. Some candles were lined along the countertop and she ignited those as well. Scarlett had come to love the darkness, rarely turning on any of her lights and using just fire that casted perfect shadows around her apartment, to pave a way for her to walk. She had come so accustom to it, she preferred to walk around without much light. Oh the life of loving a shade.

Down below in the lobby, a man walked through without causing notice. The guards all but let him buy as he held onto pizza and a soda. Hitting the elevator and entering. The 'pizza' guy dropped the pizza box that was empty and hit the basement level button. There was something going on, unknown to anyone in the building.

Back up top, Scarlett opened her fridge and pulled out a premade salad back and popped it open. A bowl and fork later, she had her dinner. Caser salad with grilled chicken was all she needed to satisfy the rumbling in her stomach. With that in one hand, and the fork in the other she moved back out to the balcony. Her elbows resting at the edge and her back arched as she looked out over down to the street. She hadn't ever been afraid of heights, but today she would. All of a sudden, the entire building took a harsh tremble. As if there were an earthquake, Scarlett lost her balance and began falling forward, the edge not having enough leverage to keep her back fully.

Oh god... that fall was not something she'd survive.

Wraith could not have been a more perfect match for Scarlett. Not everyone would find a bloodied red-head attractive enough to look at them the way he did. His eyes making her met and the smile only adding to it. When he came to her, she put her hand against the side of his neck and leaned into him. He was absolutely perfect, in every form imaginable. As she felt him press his lips against her forehead she let out a sigh of relief, knowing that he was safe and alright it made her even out.

Knowing what was coming next for the man laying on the floor, he wished for death now--even begged for it. Yet it wouldn't come soon enough for him. The shade was fear itself to the helpless man as he answered his first question without hesitation. The second question he had no choice but to answer. However as he felt the life slipping from him he only offered a smug smile and a lipped 'fuck you', before taking the final blow and finding himself in deaths embrace. Scarlett turned from the man and Wraith, looking around her apartment in disgust. This place would cost a fortune to fix, and the cleaning bill was going to be outrageous. Whoever did this was going to pay, and not with money.

Seeing Wraith's hand, Scarlett didn't hesitate to give hers to him. She could tell the urgency of the two of them departing from the building, however as much as Scarlett valued her own life there were many good people that lived in this building. Some of which were close second to being as wealthy as she was. If they were after money, the terrorists, she wouldn't have been their first stop. Wraith was her number one concern, the people in the building didn't come close to how much he was worth in her eyes, but she knew that he was the least in danger out of everyone. He could slip away into the shadows and take no suffering from what was to come. She on the other hand was a different story. However, Scarlett had a lot to lose by something happening to her here. Which is why she couldn't take too big of risks when it came to her life.

It wasn't worth saving everyone if Wraith was still a prisoner to that witch.

"Let's first get to security, which is ten flights down." Something that Wraith didn't know about her, which he would learn soon, was that she was a computer genius. Maybe nothing compared to some meta-human hackers, but she was up to par. "I'll see if I can find where they all are, which floor and see what is going on in the basement using the security cameras. We can wipe them out floor by floor, then go to the basement." She knew that Wraith would follow her into hell and back even if she didn't ask him to.

Turning towards him before she made the move, she leaned in and kissed him briefly on his lips. "I always kiss you when you get home, now isn't any different." It had more value now, seeing as they were about to go into one very dangerous situation. For all they knew, there could be bombs lining the basement floor ready to go off and send them crumbling to the ground.

Only when he was ready would she give him the go ahead, and make her way through the destroyed penthouse apartment and towards the stairs that were encoded with the same pin pad as the elevator. It was going to be a long run down, but thankfully they both were in shape. Have to love that.

Wraith would have been struggling to even turn a computer on, much less hack into it. The visual display from the screen was not the easiest thing for him to see unless it was in black and white either. His vision was too different. The power had been cut to the building, but buildings this size usually had multiple mains lines and at least one back up to work maintenance. It was possible one of those lines was feeding the security room. For the exact same reason he had stayed solid the day the Empress made an attempt on Scarlett’s life, Wraith refused to slip into the shadows. One of the men had been carrying a military grade ear piece that the shade offered to Scarlett.

The stairwell was fire sealed, meaning the doors were solid. The three now very dead men must have already been on the upper levels before the explosion which knocked out the power. There was one good thing which came with knowing their motivations. They weren’t about to bring the building down around them, not yet at least.

The stairs were empty, and he finally let go of Scarlett’s hand. Ten flights took almost no time at all to go down. He knew they were on the right floor because someone had wedged the door open. The top ten floors of the building were all serious wealth accommodation. Everything below them was financial offices. Wealthy tenants were one thing, but the net worth of the business housed in the building would have been able to buy a small country.

Fifteen men, the thug had no reason to lie. But it was not in Wraith’s nature to believe anyone. Eighteen men in total would have been a serious operation. If they were situated in the basement, there couldn’t have been many teams on the floors above them. They were probably hoping the group that started with the penthouse was going to be able to round up all the civilians they wanted. Ransom? Financial access? Most people had families. What man wouldn’t have given up his entire wealth the second a gun was pressed to his son’s head?

Emergency power was still feeding at least one of the rooms. There was a single guard outside and voices from within the security room.

Wraith was not going to hold back, Scarlett would have seen the blade form in one of his hands. A blink of an eye later, the shade was simply gone. He had not sunk into the shadows. She would have known where he was if he had. A heartbeat later he appeared directly in front of the single guard, his shadow blade driving up into his skull through his throat. Catching the limp body and easing it down onto the ground. The voices coming from the security room sounded anxious.

“It is taking them too long.”

“We need to stick to the schedule”

“I’m not going to stay here. He has an itchy trigger finger, we’ve seen it before.”

“Keep your eyes on the prize. Do your job, they can do theirs.”

Scarlett followed Wraith down the stairs, she was quick to keep up with him. If there were one part of her body that never seemed to fail her, it was her legs. Strong, durable and reliable. She could've been an Olympic track runner if she desired to put forth the effort, but she found running a business behind a computer much more enjoyable.

He had grace about him when he killed a man. There was no hesitation in it, and when he grabbed him to lay him down it was both respectful and smart. Wraith was a born killer, whereas Scarlett only adopted it to survive. They had come from two different sides of the world, yet they found one another and molded almost perfectly. No, there was no almost, they did mix perfectly. For this reason a smile curled across her lips. Even in such a brutal moment, she could still look at him and love him without a shadow of a doubt. Scarlett was about to do the same, as she took a step to the door and pressed her hand against the knob.

"Yes sir"

The sound of one of the men stepping to the security door, and turning the knob would all be silenced by his agonizing scream. Scarlett had heated the knob to the point of almost melting it. When she heard him, she took a step back and kicked the door almost off its hinges. The one directly behind the door was slammed straight in the face and sent flying back into a few metal filing cabinets. "Shit!" The opposite guy screamed as he reached for his gun and pointed it straight at Scarlett's pretty little face.

He was too slow however, she had already stepped to him and pushed his hands away, the gun going off but the bullet went straight into the ceiling. Scarlett's movements were swift and quick; one of her hands grabbed the wrist that held the gun and her other swirled fire between its fingers. His wrist began to swell as the skin boiled and his skin popped. He screamed again and dropped the gun. When the gun was on the ground, she kicked his knee --breaking it on impact-- and brought him to his knees. Taking his head into her hands, the fire between her finger tips melting his skin almost instantly, she snapped his neck.

The fire had been gathered for the other man that was now shuffling to his feet and pointing the gun straight at Scarlett's back. He'd not get the chance to shoot as she quickly turned, extended her arm out and shot a fiery ball of molten fury at him. The impact would send him plummeting through the wall. It could have been assumed he died instantly, because silence fell a few seconds after he settled into the wall.

Taking a stand, she dusted herself off and looked back at Wraith. Yet, it was only a quick glance as she headed over towards the computers. Six monitors, all of which had been shut down. The emergency power would keep the camera's running, so that meant that there was an outside source causing them to be all blank. "This may take me a moment. Watch the stairway, that gun shot may have alerted anyone in the floor above or below us." Her sapphire eyes met Wraith's, "Come back in four minutes, I should have us a route."

There was something to be said for watching Scarlett work, whether that involved sitting behind a desk all day or bursting some would be terrorist through a wall with a fireball. Maybe he smiled as he watched her... he wanted to protect her, always. The fact he did not need to did nothing to diminish the desire. They were the perfect accompaniment, in all things. Wraith would never have believed someone like Scarlett could have existed. Or that he would find her.

Beside Scarlett a single figure solidified out of the shadows, a perfect copy of Wraith, right down to the twin blades in his hands. The only difference between the shade and his copy, one of them remained dark. “Four minutes.” He echoed in agreement before he slipped into the shadows, leaving the sentient bodyguard to watch over the single most important person in his life. What Scarlett would not have seen were the other two shadows which solidified outside of the doorway and started moving down the hallway.

He did not close any of the doors which lead to the security room, he wouldn’t have wanted to slow the terrorists down. If they were so eager to die... There is no way they could have known what was waiting for them. The shadow guards moved with the same agile grace that Wraith did and could fight with the same level of efficiency, the only difference was they could not slip back into the shadows like their master. Even the single sentry which remained with Scarlett sank back into the darkened corner of the security room, laying in wait.

With the entire building shrouded in darkness, Wraith did not even need to try. The single gunshot was already bringing two groups down on their position. One group from the level above, another from the same level Scarlett was on. Whatever they were after, these men were determined to get it. It had to be more than money...

Wraith’s attention was divided evenly between his creations, but the moment the group from above appeared in the doorway the shadow guard was released from whatever control Wraith held over it, screams echoed from the stairwell, the sharp echo of automatic weapon fire and then silence. He did not need to investigate what happened, he had felt the shadow creation’s movements even if he could not see them. An amused smile tugged at his lips as a single member of the last wayward party tried to circle around the security room through the adjoining offices. He pulled the guards closer towards Scarlett and went after the remaining man personally.

Seconds ticked into minutes and nothing, there was not so much as a sound from the third and final man slumped on the ground. No others were coming. At least none which moved through the shadows, and the whole building was covered in darkness. By the time he returned to Scarlett’s side, her four minutes were almost up.

Her four minutes were divided evenly throughout her work. First minute was comprised of finding out why the computer screens were shut off when the power should've kept them on. It didn't take a genius to figure out that they had been key coded to shut down incase of something like this. The security guards that were in charge of the building this hour were completely predictable. They used a resident of the building every other day as their passcode. Thankfully Scarlett was a master of hacking, using deductive reasoning she was able to choose the resident that best fit the time frame, her. Was it coincidence that her first and last name was the passcode to unlock the computers; possibly. She wouldn't look much into it until their was need for it, nor would she share that information with Wraith. There was no need to be alarmed more then what they already were.

Second minute was there for the sole reason to get all of the security cameras onto six monitors. That was over a four hundred cameras on six screens. They weren't meant to all be looked at all at the same time, but for Scarlett it was a simple task.

The third minute was used to search through the camera footage. It was all live, maybe with a second or two lag delay, but other than that it was pretty much right on time. There seemed to be no guards on the levels below them, however they had missed one on the level below Scarlett's. Though the camera's didn't stretch into the homes--thankfully--Scarlett could tell that someone was in one of the rooms by the messed up front door rug at and the fact that the door was slightly cracked. There was a bent credit card that lay on carpet, and no evidence of someone exiting the apartment. He wouldn't be too much of a concern, until later. Whether Wraith would want to deal with him in the moment or just wait, she'd have to ask.

The last minute, before se felt Wraith creeping up behind her, was focused on the basement level. The cameras had purposefully been moved off to the side, only showing corners of the rooms and very bad angles of peoples faces. "Hmm..." Scarlett would've done the same thing. Instead of turning off the cameras, whoever had orchestrated this knew that someone would be watching the cameras. It was a sign showing that they knew someone would have done what Scarlett had. There was a pit beginning to twist in her stomach as she felt more incline to believe this was no coincidence they chose this building beyond any of the other ones.

Taking a deep breath after her four minutes was up, she continued to watch the basement level. "There is someone on the floor below my place. I'm not sure what he or she is doing, however they're still there." Turning her head and looking up at Wraith she sighed heavily, "There's something very wrong here." Scarlett wasn't one to jump to conclusions, but there was enough evidence to point in the direction that she was the target of whatever was going on here.

Shifting her eyes back to the monitors, she got a glimpse of something that caught her attention indefinitely. One of the cameras caught sight of a platinum blonde entering and exiting the sights of the video fairly quickly. Scarlett put her hands to the keyboard and typed something. One large video showed up, replaying back the woman walking past the camera. It was difficult to see her face, almost impossible, but what was clearly obvious was the curled devious smile at the corner of her lips. "She's doing this." Scarlett didn't know who she was, what she was doing, or why, but something in her gut told her that she was the cause of this.

"Plan." She pushed the chair back and stood up, her hand reaching up to her chin as she tapped her finger against her lips. "Can you take care of the one on the second to top level? I'll start heading down to the basement but don't worry I won't go in without you." Wraith could get from the top to the bottom much faster then she could. Slip into the shadows and make it to the bottom within seconds. She had to use the stairs. There weren't any more armed men she could see until the final level, so she didn't need to worry about that.

Wraith would have his hands full, however. The man that was on the second to last floor, was setting up bombs along the floor--and he'd find himself about to spar with a meta of invisibility.

Wraith gently captured Scarlett’s chin bringing her face up to meet his. “No.” The single word held more power than he could have ever have imagined. Never had he been able to say that word and have it carry the gravity he needed it to.

“I will not leave your side.” As though that single directive was not enough her went on to tell her why. “You are the single most important person in my life, and I will not leave you unprotected for a second.” Whether she liked it or not, the only way Wraith was going back up those stairs was with the woman he loved by his side.

It was like every bad horror movie he had never seen... someone suggests they split up and then it is a downward spiral from there. Be damned if he was going to let that happen, let even the potential of that happen. He had very nearly lost her once tonight and the overprotective response from that had not lost its edge.

More than that, he knew Scarlett. She would have intended on waiting for him, but she was a heroine at heart. The moment something happened, she would have been in the thick of the action without him and losing her... it was not a realm of possibility he could visit. He appreciated her strategy, but she needed to rethink it. He had no delusions that he was able to protect her every moment of the day. His entire existence had been devoted to protecting one person or another... and each one of those he had failed.

If Scarlett wanted out of the building, all she needed to do was say the word. Wraith would have had her on the ground in a matter of seconds. There were a dozen abilities he had which he had never shown her, like the shadow constructs that finally started to fade back into the darkness. That was his cue that they needed to get out of there, one way or another. He could have summoned them back up, he could have sent them up the stairs if Scarlett really wanted to disrupt whatever was going on up there. But there was nothing in heaven or earth which was going to pry him from her side.

Scarlett was surprised that Wraith had said no. Then again, she wanted him to have that option of saying no to her and anyone that gave him an order or asked something of him. That was what having choice was all about, and that's what she wanted for him. Maybe it was a bit over protective of her, but in a way she needed it. She'd seen scary movies, she was being that typical blonde that thought splitting up was good. Even if she wasn't particularly ready to run into battle without Wraith by her side, it still wasn't smart what she had suggested. Dying would mean not seeing him again; and she loved him more then life itself. So no being stupid for now.

"Alright, you're right."
A gentle smile crossed her lips. "Though we still need to deal with him. Backtracking would take too much time." Scarlett had no idea about the shadows he could create and send off somewhere, so she couldn't suggest that.

However, she wouldn't have time to suggest anything. The sounds of the air vents opening would click, and air would begin to flow into the rooms and stairway halls. A light mist escaped and began to fill the room, but once they got a good look at it all it was, was mist. Like a fog and it was cold. Before long, seconds maybe, they'd be able to see their breath as they breathed in and out. Thankfully Scarlett was a pyromancer and they didn't get cold... right?

Wrong.

Moving her arms up and around herself she shivered. "S-Shit.." She said tightening her grip around herself. "A Cryomancer." Scarlett knew of one, which the world probably had hundreds of them, and they were not friendly to her kind. Even if she could melt their ice, the cold that they produced was a different kind of cold to a Pyromancers (or at least to Scarlett they did). "We need to h-hurry and get downstairs.." Moving her hands up she lit fire in front of her and brought it close to her. Everything was connected downstairs in the basement. The central air duct where the Cryomancer was doing this would be there.

They really needed to get to the basement. The person back upstairs would just have to wait unless Wraith took care of him.

Giving Wraith the gesture to leave and start heading downstairs, Scarlett would lead the way. Her fire staying constant in her hands as much as she could as they moved downwards. They had quite the run ahead of them, and when they'd get to the lobby they'd find the bell hop, the security guard and the front desk clerk zip tied against the wall. Two random people lying face first on the floor, bloody and dead, and men standing with guns pointed at the three 'hostages'. The cold hair still seemed to spill into the lobby, sadly, but Scarlett would suck it up.

The door that led from the stairway to the lobby now in front of Wraith and Scarlett, she looked at him and pressed her lips together. She didn't want those three to die. "We have to save them. Tell me what to do."
