| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? There were moments that Scarlett could look back and wish to return to them, then there were some that she wished to let be and never return to the thoughts themselves. Yet these past few months, she wanted to close her eyes and relive them over and over. Even the bad times, like being shot at in front of Dusk, she wanted all that to forever be implanted in her mind. Holding out her hand, Scarlett smiled happily. She had been laying in bed all day, but for a good reason. She had been given the day off after her 'accident' and she wanted to recover fully. The doctors had made a house call, coming to her and removing the plate that was in her arm. It was a long processes, but because she didn't want to leave it was the only way. Not only was it a long processes, who knew that it would cost so much to have a private doctor come over at the last minute during the holidays to remove a plate that wasn't doing anything. The doctor had actually had to request her medical records be sent a second time because her shoulder was, basically, completely healed. Thankfully he knew that there were healers in Niwa, and he wasn't going to question why she had her arm back to almost perfect condition. Given the fact she was stabbed with a seven foot sword all the way to the hilt. Wraith had left that morning, like normal, and said he'd return by nightfall. Normally it was well past twelve when he showed up, but she didn't mind. Scarlett knew that he would always come home to her, and when he didn't she knew that he would have a good reason. The sun had just set, the cool brisk breeze that was being let in through the open balcony window all but chilled her apartment. Scarlett had gotten out of bed just as the sun disappeared and went outside. The air at that height was amazing, it was one of the many reasons she wanted to be on the top level. That and the view, because, honestly what could beat the view of the city of Niwa at night? The only thing that came close was looking into Wraith's eyes as he made love to her. That was truly about it. It was to be a normal night, she was going to cook dinner and probably head down to the gym and work out for a bit. Yet, what she couldn't expect was what was to happen in her building that night. The security there and the over protective staff barely let anyone in after a certain hour, unless they knew you or lived in the building. Wraith was one of those many known faces that entered the building every afternoon. Yet, for one they were not so recognizable. While Scarlett moved back into her apartment, she kept the door behind her open and walked to the fireplace where she lit it. Some candles were lined along the countertop and she ignited those as well. Scarlett had come to love the darkness, rarely turning on any of her lights and using just fire that casted perfect shadows around her apartment, to pave a way for her to walk. She had come so accustom to it, she preferred to walk around without much light. Oh the life of loving a shade. Down below in the lobby, a man walked through without causing notice. The guards all but let him buy as he held onto pizza and a soda. Hitting the elevator and entering. The 'pizza' guy dropped the pizza box that was empty and hit the basement level button. There was something going on, unknown to anyone in the building. Back up top, Scarlett opened her fridge and pulled out a premade salad back and popped it open. A bowl and fork later, she had her dinner. Caser salad with grilled chicken was all she needed to satisfy the rumbling in her stomach. With that in one hand, and the fork in the other she moved back out to the balcony. Her elbows resting at the edge and her back arched as she looked out over down to the street. She hadn't ever been afraid of heights, but today she would. All of a sudden, the entire building took a harsh tremble. As if there were an earthquake, Scarlett lost her balance and began falling forward, the edge not having enough leverage to keep her back fully. Oh god... that fall was not something she'd survive. |

Wraith had been scaling the outside of the building in shadow form when the entire building reverberated and shuddered like something had errupted near the structural core. The windows around him threatening to crack around the seals. In shadow form he did not feel it, there was nothing to centre himself to. No gravity... up and down were a thing of his physical state. There was only one thought on his mind, only one focus and that was the woman who lived in the penthouse suite at the very top. But there were ten stories between him and the balcony which overlooked the city. The shade raced along the shadows as the building seemed to defy gravity itself and heave backwards trying to shake off the damage or the earthquake, whatever had just happened. Form five floors below the balcony Wraith was able to instantly stride through the shadows and onto what should have been a solid platform... He instantly knew where Scarlett was, the way the shadows whispered of her... only now the shadows were screaming for him. The distance between them was too great as he lunged across the space, his entire form materialising out of the shadows for his armoured hand to close around ... nothing. ...... she had been right there!! ............He had missed her........... "SCARLETT NO......!!!!!" There was no time for him to react, respond... feel. He was a fraction of a heart beat away from going over the edge after her. |

Scarlett had seen her life flash before her eyes prior to this moment, and it had happened once again. All she could see was the street below her, and it wasn't the most pleasant of sights. Her stomach turned as she could feel nothing below her. The red head had dreams of falling, that sensation of having nothing below you to keep you up, but she had never imagined that it would feel so real. The dream and reality, they had prepared her for this moment. Yet, she didn't move. As if time had slowed down for her to bask in her fall, she felt every inch of the balcony disappear from behind her. "SCARLETT NO......!!!!!" If not for the scream that had led her to quickly turn her body, she would have found her body splattered across the pavement below. Her body shifted and her hand reached out, cracking her whip across the side of her balcony. The fire sizzled as it hit the cold stone and wrapped around the edge. With how she was moving, it was impossible to stop where she was. The force swung her back towards the building and with her head tucked between her shoulder she crashed straight into the floor window below her. There was a loud thud that could be heard down below. The... glass hadn't broken. Scarlett didn't know if that was a good thing, or not... "Well damn..." She said under her breath, her one hand gripped at her whip as she struggled to keep herself from letting go. She was stronger with her legs then she was with her arms, given that statement she didn't have very long to hold on. Scarlett shifted her body, trying to pull herself up. However she couldn't trip the whip like a normal one, the only part she could really grab onto was the handle. It wasn't meant to really hold someone up. Looking around, she looked for an escape route. Her eyes scanned the apartment that she had almost crashed into. The apartment was empty... silent. No one lived below her obviously. There was a bit of relief, the last thing Scarlett wanted to do was to scare some poor kids or a family. The sounds of screaming were to follow, and they were horrified screams. People were rushing through the halls, attempting to get out of the building. Something about what had happened didn't feel right... that earthquake was too focused on the building.. and it didn't wave. It was like the epicenter was right below them. Down in the basement of the apartment, the mysterious man sat on a chair with a laptop in his lap. The question was, he didn't walk in with it so where did it come from? He wasn't alone, as another two figures appeared beside him. "Are we ready?" "Just about." "Lock down the building." "Yes sir..." The man that was on the computer shut down the buildings access to anything inside and out. No cell phone reception, the elevators weren't working, key cards and pins wouldn't work. Everything was completely shut down, even the lights. To say that Scarlett feared for her life as she dangled multiple stories up with nothing but the pavement below to break her fall, was an understatement. She gulped and looked up... The sudden appearance of the familiar whip wrapping around balcony railing was all that stopped him. Instantly leaning over the edge his shadowed eyes saw the only important person in his existence slamming into the window below him. Reached down as far as he could his hand gripped into the flaming whip wrapping it around his arm twice ~ the leather hissed and screamed as the flames started to burn through the material, but it was all the leverage he needed to be able to pull her back up. The moment she was close enough his hand closing around her arm was vicelike, denying even the possibility that he could ever let her fall. A heartbeat later he swept his other hand underneath her knees and clutching her tightly he stumbled backwards from the edge. He did not stop until his back flattened against the solid wall. For a being who knew nothing of fear, Wraith was terrified of losing Scarlett. Maybe that was why his grip on her never lessened, he could have endured the pain of her flames searing into his arm for an eternity if it meant he could hold her. “You are safe.” He whispered into her hair, as much a reassurance for himself as the woman he loved. If anything was to happen to her... The power going out in her apartment was not really noticeable, the only light came from the fireplace and the candles she had lit. For the first time he was able to see the candles... the flames dancing happily oblivious to the screaming throughout the building below them. Natural disasters were not usually isolated to one building... he could see the rest of the city still twinkling with lights. It would have felt like an eternity but Wraith managed to gently set Scarlett down inside, all the while waiting to feel any kind of aftershocks. Was it a coincidence that she lived in a penthouse suite of one of Niwa’s largest financial buildings? Three quarters of the building were financial offices. He did not need to point out the obvious that something was very wrong. |

Scarlett heard the hissing of her whip touching Wraith's leather, it was an all too familiar sound. Her head tilted up, seeing him pull her closer she readied herself. The look in his eyes were a mirror of her own; fear. She tried not to seem afraid as he put his arm around hers, but it was difficult beyond the trimmer of her hands. She grabbed onto the wall with her opposite hand to help pull herself up over the ledge, releasing the whip and falling into Wraith's arms. He held onto her tightly, but it was nothing like the grip he had on him. As tough as she tried to be, when staring death in the face like she had just done, that toughness disappeared rather quickly. She felt her heart beating beneath her chest, and so would he. Her breathing heavy as she tried hard to catch her breath before taking any other action. When she heard him speak, she rested her head down onto his shoulder. "Thanks to you." She said nuzzling her forehead against him. "Honestly I didn't... know if my whip was strong enough to hold me..." Her words were not only truthful, but scary too. If it hadn't been strong enough to hold her, she wouldn't be wrapped in her loves arms right now. She'd be embracing the pavement down below. As Wraith moved them inside and sat Scarlett down, she let out a soft sigh. Her hands moving to Wraith's arm and removing his leather that had all but melted at her whip. How she hated it sometimes. He would always suffer, whether it be from her own body or some extension of it, from her flames. Even if she had them pretty much under control, all it took was a single nightmare or incident for her to blow up in flames right beside him. This was just another example of how she wondered why she couldn't have ended up like her cousin. The worst that would have happened is frost bite, not burn scars. Scarlett moved to see if the burns had hit his skin, which they had but just barely. She pulled his arm to her chest and rested her head against his hand. She wanted to curse and be upset, but she couldn't. He had to do what he did or she wouldn't be there to scold him. The red head closed her eyes, but only for a moment. The sounds of banging on her door caught her by surprise and she shifted her weight to one foot. "Security!" A man screamed out from beyond the door. "Ms. Yung , please evacuate the building." Scarlett turned towards Wraith and shook her head. If the power was out, there was no way to the penthouse floor. The doors were key lock sensitive and hadn't been implemented with a normal key system. Granted they could've busted down the doors, but the doors were so thick that even she would have a hard time melting through them instantly. Scarlett took a step back from Wraith, her hands engulfing in flames and a battle ready stance was prepared. On top of that... she never put her real last name on anything. There was no way that security would know that name. Something was definitely not right here. "Come ... on... OUT!" Scarlett's door would be kicked in, sliding across the floor with force and towards Wraith and her. She shuffled off to the side and ducked behind her couch. The door hit the glass door that led to the balcony and came to a halt. Her eyes shifted to find Wraith, but even in the darkness--as much as she had been in it lately--it was still hard to see through. A single man walked through the door, bulked up and cracking his knuckles. "We have some business to attend to." Scarlett bared her teeth. What the heck was going on?! |

Wraith would never have let Scarlett hit the ground, but he did not have a chance to tell her that. Why did every thug in the world insist on announcing their presences? Scarlett’s battle ready stance was all the warning he could have ever needed. But let’s be honest, Wraith lived in a perpetual state of battle readiness. Anything could have walked through that door and he would have been prepared to take it on. He easily sidestepped the wreckage of the door watching Scarlett duck behind the couch and out of sight. Not that there were many places to hide. In the darkness even a single flame splashed almost enough light for the human eye. Thankfully the shade did not have human eyes. “We have some business to attend to.” Turned into an uncensored grunt of pain as the first of Wraith’s twin shadow blades sunk through the back of his left shoulder and protruded out his chest. The single blade severed every ligament and tendon on its way through rendering the arm instantly useless. It was the surgical precision of an assassin who wanted to leave a target alive rather than kill him outright. The same blade could have just as easily destroyed his spinal cord. Balling his right hand into a fist the punch he swung at Wraith was not pretty, but even being able to block it, the fist landed with the force of a truck. The shade slammed back into the far wall, letting his body absorb the force. He had been hit that hard once before by the marble sentinel within Dusk. If he had been unprepared and human on the receiving end of that punch, it would have shattered bones. Regaining his footing another shadow blade began to form in his hand again completing the twin set... yet the first was still lodged in the juggernaut’s back. A cocky smile tugged at the corner of Wraith’s mouth, to anyone who knew him it was uncharacteristic. He never gloated over his combat prowess, until he met Scarlett he had secretly desired an opponent who could have stopped him. But the act was all he needed to goad the tank of a man into charging at him. Every the tactician Wraith held his ground until the brute was overcommitted, slipping into the shadows at the last possible second and introducing the raging bull to the wall he had managed to slam Wraith into. Only he did not have the agility to bounce off the wall, instead he crashed right through into Scarlett’s master ensuite. Destroying her vanity sink and shattering the tiles and mirror which had been on the wall. A second and third man entered the apartment in the wake of the first, armed with automatic weapons it was clear their only talent was spray and pray. One of the men moved towards the door to the master bedroom the other lingering in the living area, his eyes scanning the candlelit room looking for some signs of life. It was clear that neither of the men had seen Wraith. But as he stepped along the front of the couch it was only going to be a matter of seconds before he saw Scarlett. |

Scarlett poked her head out as she heard the gliding of a blade straight through the human body. Her eyes met Wraith as he moved from behind the tank of a man that had busted through her front door. His smile made her grin. It brought back the memory of their second encounter, when he and her fought just inside the prosperous garden. Wraith was skilled, someone that she would never be able to beat in a real fight. Even if she could keep up with him, make him work for the kill, Scarlett wouldn't be able to make that final blow on him. He was just too skilled, and had way too much of an upper hand in a fight. The only advantage she had was the fire that could break the shadows. However, there was always one that would betray her; her own. Before the red head had the time to get up and show herself, Wraith disappeared into the wall and the brute charging full hulk mode through it. Straight into her master bathroom, and completely destroying anything in its path. Scarlett dropped her shoulders and shook her head. If this wasn't going to cost her a pretty penny she didn't know what would. Wraith and the hulk were gone, and so she moved a bit from the couch, however only to be met with two men holding a machine gun coming straight towards her; she ducked back quickly. Crap. Scarlett wasn't about to get a dozen bullets in her again, so there was no way she was going to give them a reason to fire on her. Plus, maybe she could find out what they wanted. They had obviously not seen Wraith, but they were eyeing the room for their hulk buddy. As one of the men walked past the couch, Scarlett put on the best acting job she could. Her fire diminished before he spotted her and a horrid look on her face appeared. "Please please, no no.." She definitely sounded scared, but Wraith would know she was only putting on a show. Yet, she did hope he would hold his position, even as the man with the gun took a handful of her hair and pulled her from behind the couch and tossed her into the open living room. Scarlett put her hands out to steady herself and not go slamming into the ground. The man laughed and kicked her down onto her stomach, pushing his foot against the bridge of her back he waved his gun to his partner. "W-What do you want?!" Scarlett screamed out, her hands clinching into a ball of hatred as she wanted to light them both on fire right then and there, but she needed to at least try and get something out of them. The man took his foot off of her back and rounded her, using his foot to lift her shoulder and turn her onto her back. Scarlett could easily kill him, summon her fire and melt the tip of his gun that was now pressing against her stomach. He would be dead in a matter of seconds if she wanted to. "Shh, don't worry, we won't kill you. At least not right now." He bent over and pressed his knee down onto her shoulder, the one she had just gotten fixed so it sent a painful pinch down the side of her body. "You're the wealthiest resident here in this building, but I'm sure you knew that." His hand raised to her head and brushed through her crimson hair. Scarlett sighed. Of course, it always came back to the money. An act of greed would always get her hurt; maybe she just needed to donate her money to charities and move off to a isolated island and live with nature. "We just need you to come with us..Jax!" He called out to the man behind him, "Find the tank..." The guy nodded and turned from the one holding Scarlett down, and walked towards the huge gapping hole in her wall. "How'd a woman like you become so successful..." He moved the gun down her stomach towards her legs, where he placed the barrel between her thighs. The action caused the red head to tense and close her legs. The man only laughed, taunting her and only making his situation so much worse. "Heh.." Scarlett snickered, "You're going to regret that." |

Jax did not get the chance to respond, he was already drowning in a pool of his own blood the moment he stepped through the door to the master bedroom. But seeing Scarlett thrown across the floor like a rag doll was like someone had dug their hand up into Wraith’s ribcage and torn his heart out. Her beg for help... blind rage tore at the shadow and realisation of what she was doing almost came too late. His sanity was hanging by a thread nearly unable to see it for the act it was. Men enjoyed gloating to beings they intended on torturing. Over two thousand years and nothing had come close to this single moment. Behind the thug implying all manner of depravities with the muzzle of his gun the room would have darkened. He had a full heartbeat to appreciate the wicked promise which passed Scarlett’s lips before his knees were brutally caved in from behind. He had a second to scream, but he had no need to catch himself. The first of the shadow blades drove up through his armpit and out the top of his shoulder on the arm which held the gun. The sickening sound of bone and cartilage being rent in two snatched the scream from his lips. It only took a half rotation of the blade and his arm, gun and all, fell to the ground in a sickening shower of blood and gore. The thug was in too much shock to even breathe. His terrified eyes fixated on the eviscerated stump where his arm had once been. Circling around him, Wraith kneed the man hard in the chest sending him sprawling back away from Scarlett. The wretch did not even have the good sense to try and stop the blood which was spilling out of him at an alarming rate. He was already dead, he just had not realised it yet. There was something cruel and twisted inside of Wraith, having seen what this man had done to Scarlett. Nothing else could have made the shade snap so completely. He wanted to dissect the worn in front of him, one screaming piece at a time. His feet took him in a slow circle around the excuse of a life, only when he reached to try and stop the blood gushing out of his butchered side did the shadow react. Swinging the sword around in his hand before driving it down into the man’s other shoulder, not stopping until the blade drove into the floor tiles beneath him. His agonising screams were not going to last long enough for Wraith. Not after what he had done, the threat to Scarlett’s life. But he was just going to have to writhe there in pain for a while longer. The shade’s attention shifting back to the tank who stumbled back through the open doorway. The fall had managed to push the blade Wraith had left imbedded in him half way back through his shoulder. Just far enough for the oversized gorilla to get a grip on it with his still good arm and pull it the rest of the way out of his body. His first mistake was throwing the shadowborn blade away. It may have given him and edge, and as though the last attempt taught him nothing the brute charged again, swinging wildly with his one good arm hoping to connect with the agile shadow. Wraith was not going to make the mistake of taking another blow from the behemoth. The remaining blade he held swivelled in his right hand until the full length of the razor edge ran back up along his arm. As the punch came flying towards him the shade dropped down below it, slashing the length of the blade along the tank’s ribcage as his strength and momentum carried him past. |

Granted Scarlett had humanity about her. The senseless killing of innocence was something she could never look at and condone. She may not have the fullest heart when it came to caring for others, but she did have one. That being said, what happened next didn't phase her one bit. This would have been the second time that someone broken into her place of residence and threatened her life. The second time that someone she loved was put into harms way, and though Wraith was nothing like her diseased husband, it still didn't sit at all well with her. The blood shed that was caused because of these men, it would end with Wraith driving a blade through them. Just as that same blade may turn on her with the fight to come... "Oh yeah, and why's th--" Scarlett's lips curled up wider, feeling the blood splatter across her and watching the shadow blade enter and exit through the mans chest. Feeling the gun drop between her legs and hit the floor she scooted back, sliding across the floor easily with the amount of blood there was. He was pleading, through the choking of his own blood. He had so much pain in his eyes and body that he couldn't come to terms he was dying. All the pyromancer did was find her footing and stand up without a pause to help the man. Scarlett looked up at Wraith, her face and body drenched in the man's blood. He had lost it after seeing what that man had done to her. Even if she felt bad for faking her torture, she couldn't lie that she loved seeing how protective he was over her. It's always a girls worse nightmare to be with someone that was more afraid to stand up for the one they loved then she was. Even if Scarlett knew she could've easily killed the men, maybe not the tank necessarily, it gave her this feeling of importance. Watching as Wraith turned from the dying man on the floor and back towards were the tank had plummeted through the wall, she rounded the bleeding crook on the floor. She kicked off the hand that tried to grab for help and continued off. Wraith had by that time made contact with his blade and slit it across the brutes gut. Her smile continued to stay on her face as she quickened her step and came up right behind his attack. The brute had bent over in agonizing pain, giving Scarlett the perfect angle to bring him down. Putting her hand to his shoulder she drifted over his back, landing behind him and giving him a swift kick, sending him to his knees. Turning towards him, her hands moved towards his neck, and melting out of her hands were two ends of her whip. They knotted in front of him and as it did Scarlett pulled, constricting his neck with her flame. Putting her foot at the bridge of his back she pulled until the struggle ceased. Not that there was much, Wraith pretty much had killed the man. But she wasn't going to give him the opportunity to let the tank hit her love again. Once everything stopped, and Scarlett dropped the brute with a thud, the only thing that could be heard was the choking of blood from a distance. The red head took a deep breath and stepped to Wraith's side. Her finger ran a trail down is arm. "I'll let you do the honors.." Her sapphire eyes met his, the smirk across her face was somewhat beautiful but deviant with all the blood on her. Only certain people would find that appealing. |

Did she need his help as Scarlett strangled the tank of a man to death with her flaming whip? Not at all, but that was not going to stop him from admiring the sight. She was... extraordinary! In every way possible. The blind rage at the man still bleeding out and skewered to her living room floor was slowly starting the fade as the overall threat to her life subsided. When she stepped back up to him there was something almost sensual about her. Using her abilities seemed almost euphoric, as though there was a balance within her and it was only in that moment it was realised. Smiling at her words he dipped his face to hers. Resting his forehead against hers, his nose and lips followed a moment later. Pressing a single cool kiss against her hairline. She was safe, and that was all he needed to know. However, the whimpering filth still bleeding all over her floor... Wraith turned towards him, the tenderness in his eyes he had regarded Scarlett with vanished in a heartbeat. His shadow grey glare hardening as he stalked towards the man. The pathetic wretch writhed and stammered, his hand still trying to grip at the razor blade pinning him to the ground. It was a wonder he was not dead already one look at the growing pool of blood was all Wraith needed to know he only had a matter of seconds. Crouching down, Wraith held out his hand where the dying man could see, the shadows swirling around in his palm to form a cruel barbed looking dagger. He could have tried to stop the bleeding and have more time, but he preferred people when they had a sense of urgency. “How many of you are there left?” Even his voice echoed with the shadows. If it was possible the man paled even more when Wraith held the blade above his head, suspended between his thumb and forefinger. There was no offer to save his wretched life, only the promise of more pain to come before he didn’t have enough blood left to keep his heart pumping. His eyes were fixated on the blade. “Fifteen!” He finally blurted out. What did he care about the mission now, his cut ~ however much it would have been ~ was something he was never going to see. “And where are they operating from?” Wraith palmed the warped knife pressing it to the man’s cheek and slowly drifting down his body with it. The blade would have only made it to his abdomen before he started screaming about the basement. At least, he thought he was screaming, his voice had been barely audible because he was going into shock and his heart was about to fail. There were no more questions, nothing else the shade wanted to know as he drove the blade into the man’s lower abdomen, twisting it into his intestines. The screaming did not last for long, when Wraith stood back up he held out his hand for Scarlett to take. They needed to either get out of the building now, or hunt down every last one of the terrorists. The look he settled her with suggested that it was going to be her choice to make. His place was by her side and he would have travelled to hell and back for her. |
