Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

"How's she doing today? ... Oh ... I sent the check in three days ago ... It went up? ... Oh ... Alright, I'll head to the bank now ... Thank you ... Tell her I said hi ... Bye"

Kyoki lowered her hand that held onto her phone, a moment of weakness flooding over her eyes. How had she been so careless as not to pay attention to the amount that was due at the hospital. Her life had been so hectic lately, working none stop and going back and forth for the Wo Shing, it was too much for one person to handle. On top of that, the hospital bills were going up and up, and soon they'd be taking every penny she had. It would leave her homeless, probably worse. Yet, none of that mattered. Even if there was only a fifteen percent chance that her sister would wake up from her induced coma, then by god she was going to do whatever it took to have it happen. It was the least Kyoki could do for her, after what she had to do to her family..

Pushing herself off the stone brick wall, Kyoki exited the alleyway she had snuck down to take the phone call. The bank was down the street, at least one that would send the check electronically. It was cold walk, but one she needed to make. Before she ran off to the bank she headed back upstairs and grabbed a jacket and put on her snow boots. The blanket of snow that covered the ground wasn't too bad, but one she didn't want to walk in with just her flippers on.

There wasn't a lot on her mind except for her sister. Inside she fought the demons that haunted her existence, telling her one thing but pulling her in another direction. She had so much to fight for and yet it seemed so easy to stop. If it weren't for the Wo Shing requiring her to be in Niwa, she would be living in Hong Kong with her sister, waiting for her to wake up. It broke her heart to be away from the only thing that connected her to her past, and the only thing that kept her sane--at least on the outside. She gives Kyoki a reason to live, and a reason to keep fighting.

As she walked, Kyoki should've been paying more attention to where she was going. But because her mind wondered, she didn't realize that the light was red on her side, and she didn't have the go ahead to walk the crosswalk to the other side. Yet she was paying enough attention to catch the glimpse of the bumper at the corner of her eye. Her reaction was quick enough to were she threw her hands up and summoned a force push hard enough to send herself flying backwards. The car, or whatever it was, hadn't hit her, however the force did send her back to the sidewalk where she rolled to a stop. Thank god for snow, it was the only thing that saved her from cracking her skull on the pavement.

Her long purple hair scattered across the snow white ground, and a grumbling noise could be heard as she shifted her wait. 'Son of a bi**h!!!' Kyoki rolled off to her side and began picking herself up. One of her boots had been lost in the street somewhere, and her jacket was resting half off her shoulder. The worst of it was it, was that her black jeggings had ripped at the knees, but there didn't seem to be any bodily injury sustained to her.

Turning her head, Kyoki looked around as people stood back in shock at what had just happened. Her lavender eyes scanning for any wreck, but she hadn't heard anyone crash, so maybe the car just kept going...

Kyoki found it so difficult to keep herself together. The trembling in her hands, the ever so slight twitch in her shoulder as she latched onto him as if holding onto him for dear life. His hand that wiped across her cheek would feel just how warm her skin had become; maybe a bit too warm. There was an internal struggle that she fought with every day of her life, and it was never easy to deal with. Her crazy mental state would always be linked back to that single day she caused her sister to fall into that coma. Maybe somewhere in her mind, deep down inside, she knew that it wasn't physical at all and that she was mentally keeping herself asleep. Kyoki was just afraid to admit that to herself, because she was blinded by stupidity.

Angaelus began to speak, and as he did Kyoki felt the torment that he had suffered. First, the loss of a loved one. This world brought so much pain and suffering, and yet she always ignored it and caused more. Kyoki was a terrible person; almost down to the core a trail of blood could be traced back to her. She was the kind of person that one would tell to stay away from at any given moment. She, not only being responsible for the coma at which her sister had slipped into so many years ago, but the death of her entire family. Inside, she did not suffer anymore for his loss. Even if her body did. He did not deserve what had happened to him and the person he loved. He was a good man...

Hearing the door open, Kyoki didn't even flinch, she sat there in stone as she had from the beginning when Angaelus began to tell her his tragic story. One that she would not participate in... maybe.

A second loss. The death of a child. Her body slumped over, but it couldn't go very far as his hand was there to stop her. Her sisters were no more older then ten when they were killed. Yet she had no one to blame but herself. Even if there was enough blame to be put onto her parents, they were dead. So the only one to blame was herself. She could all but sympathies and even empathies with Angaelus, but she wouldn't. There was no more suffering she could do. Not for him, and not even more herself. Suffering had all but taken her and wrapped her in its cold, dead fingers.

Yet, in the light of all that darkness, something that even Kyoki could not hide from she came along. It would be a lie if she didn't say that Kitten, this young girl saved by an angel, was not on her mind every single day. Had she fallen in love with her almost instently? Yes. Kyoki had wanted nothing more then to spend every moment with that young girl, take her out and be the big sister she could have never been before. Yet she couldn't. Her body and mind had been lost a long time ago to the darkness, and Kitten nor Angaelus deserved to have something like that in their lives. It was the underlining issue as to why she never called him or Jer. Neither of them deserved that kind of baggage.

Kyoki finally lifted her head up, her lavender eyes seeing Angaelus and wanting nothing more then his arms to wrap around her and heal her suffering. Deep down inside she wanted to take his away too, but he had a better chance of taking hers away then she his. However, if he could take her pain away like that, would she truly deserve it? No, she didn't, but her sister didn't deserve to suffer the way that she was. Why not try every option in the world to save her from her torment? Yes, definitely yes. She couldn't push him away, she couldn't afford it...

Kyoki wanted to offer a sorry for his pain, yet none would come. She didn't know what exactly to say. However the look in her eyes told him she had once felt his pain. She didn't know how to let out, so she just starred at him for a moment, but turning her head to see Jeremy sitting in the front seat. This was not easy for her, but if Angaelus did help her he needed to know. Even if he hated her afterwards. Because the moment her sister woke up, and started screaming murderer, she couldn't take the look that he'd give her.

"I've believed that she had ended up like this to make me suffer for my sins..." Details of the night that had ended any sanity she had left flooded through her mind. The pain in her voice was null, but the heart ache she felt was real. "My mother and father betrayed someone, the Wo Shing to be exact, and brought death knocking at our door. This happened years ago, but it still feels like yesterday." A pause. "They had kidnapped my brother, and I haven't seen him since." Another pause. "Then they got me, told me that it was duty as a member of their family that... traitors would never tolerated..." Kyoki wasn't going to go into details about what happened, but she would explain the overview of it. "If not for what I did, they were going to kill my sisters and brother. Yet, in my actions to kill my parents I was responsible for taking their lives as well. While also putting my sister into a coma." Her head had still been turned to Jeremy, but it soon turned back to Angaelus.

Her hand reached up and took his away from her cheek, wrapping both hands around his and holding it down in her lap. She swallowed hard before continuing. "Losing your entire family in one day, not by the hands of someone else, but by your own doesn't leave much room for forgiveness. So I ask you for help, not for me, but my sister. She is so young, and didn't deserve to see or feel what she had to." Even if deep down inside Kyoki needs to forgive herself for what she had done, there as no angel or god that could convince her that she had done it for the better of her family.

She had barely stopped speaking when she leaned forward and rested her head against his stomach. Kyoki was a monster, and she knew it. A monster that deserved nothing more then death's grip around her throat, taking what life she thought she had left away from her. And she would welcome it once her sister woke up...

When she collapsed against him, Angaelus wrapped his arms around Kyoki pulling her into his embrace. There may have only been a few inches between them in height, but he physically dwarfed her. The hard plains of his chest and arms softening around her, the single steady beat of his heart and the rise and fall of his chest all the comfort she could have needed. He rested his cheek against the top of her head, his silver grey eyes lifting to Jeremy.

The younger man was in shock, his mind trying to piece together what Kyoki had said... did she mean that she had killed her entire family..? Was it even possible that she could have been responsible for something like that? Kyoki certainly seemed to believe so. He did not really have time to think about what that meant as the police cruiser and tow truck pulled up at the same time. Looking back to Angaelus’ eyes he opened the door. “I’ll deal with that.” He spoke softly, not wanting to interrupt. He had been driving the ambulance after all, they wouldn’t even need a statement from his partner. Not unless the driver started making things up. But there were plenty of witnesses.

“It is not our actions which define us, Kyoki.” Angaelus whispered softly, his hand lightly brushing through her hair. “We cannot change the past or the acts we committed against another, whatever the reason.” As he spoke the shadow from his own past clawed its way into his most easily recalled memories. That the very same shadow had been standing in front of him only a week earlier made it that much harder to banish the thoughts.

“Forgiveness does not come from other people, it is the peace you make with yourself.” Nothing in his words diminished her or the pain she felt. It was real, it would always be real. He understood that better than most. “That you can not find that peace tells me more about who you are in your heart.” She was not cruel, or heartless. She had taken life, the life of the people who should have meant the most. The pain that had caused was carved into her soul, how could he have thought less of her, cared less for her?

His limitless capacity for love and compassion would have told anyone what he was. Even without the wings. Angaelus would never give up on her, never despise her. Nor would he let her go until she pulled away from him. It was not his gifts which told him that her heart was breaking. He accepted what she was without needing to know the demons which haunted her.

“Whenever you are ready to travel to Hong Kong, I will be with you.” That was his promise to her, and nothing would keep him from it.

She feared that Jeremy nor Angaelus would not understand. That they would ridicule her and throw her to the dogs. Yet there was no badmouthing, no judgment from either of them. Even if she could feel the stare that Jeremy was giving her from behind, it was built from confusion. Someone like Kyoki that acted all sweet and innocent, how could she have done such a terrible thing? She was capable of doing a lot worse to the people around her if given the motivation to do so. Angaelus would hopefully never see that side of her, and by god she would never show herself to Kitten in that way either. Jeremy would never have to witness her dark side either; they had found a piece of her heart that she rarely showed to anyone.

All of her attention was brought to Angaelus as he wrapped his arms around her. A hug. Something she hadn't felt in a long time. Not just any hug, a 'meaningful' hug. It screamed that he actually did care, whether or not she was reading it wrong, she loved it. Kyoki had not deserved to be cared about for a long time, and to have that feeling rush over her like that all but put her into shock. Her weak arms slowly crawled their way around his torso and held him against her.

His words caused her heart to ache, there was no peace in war. The war that raged within her effected her mind, body and soul. This included her heart. As much as she wanted peace, it wouldn't come. Not now. There was no room for her own forgiveness, so she expected none from anyone else. Her hatred for her parents and their tertiary had burned hatred inside of her, one that would not let go of what she did until it was all fixed. However, his words did stick... they did.

Lifting her head up, Kyoki met his eyes again and across her face there was a smile that crossed it. One that was sincere, loving and all around grateful for him. "Thank you..." She closed her eyes and shook her head, "Even if it fails, thank you." Kyoki didn't have high hopes for it to work, but at least there was a chance. Airfare would be tough, but she could skip rent for the month. She would rather be evicted at this point. Her sister was more important then having a home to come back to after their trip.

Kyoki didn't want to pull away from Angaelus, honestly she wanted him to take her back to his place so she could latch onto Kitten and never let her go. Yet she couldn't. Kyoki was as much apart of his life as she was with the life of her landlord. He had no obligation to keep her around, and she wouldn't ask for it.

"I should let you go huh..."
She said under her breath, hesitating but eventually releasing her death grip on his shirt and leaning back. To anyone, Kyoki looked like she couldn't hurt a fly. With that beautiful smile and those lavender eyes, how could something sweet and innocent, be so damn destructive.

"Would you want to bring Kitten?"
Kyoki had to ask. "And Jeremy?" They seemed to be a family... the last thing she wanted to do was break them apart.

“It is what friends are for.” There was such certainty and heart in those words, he had invited this woman into his home knowing nothing about her. His hand naturally reached out to take hers which had been twisted into the fabric of his top. At every turn he offered her assistance and while he could not undo her past he intended to do everything within his power to set right what he could. She deserved to forgiveness even if she did not believe she was ready for it ~ and possibly never would be.

“It will just be me.” The words came out, but before Kyoki could form her own assumptions Angaelus filled in the blanks. “Kitten does not have a passport and it would take months worth of paperwork to apply and Jeremy is the only person who I would consider asking to look after her.” The fact Kitten was provisionally adopted made getting everything through the system for her that much harder. He did not fully understand Kyoki’s reason or her hesitation in asking. “But I am sure they would see us off.”

He did not want to let her go, even if he could still see the crinkles in his uniform from where she had held onto him. Angaelus was just going to trust that she still had Jeremy’s number and could call him the moment she was ready to depart. But the knock on the back of the ambulance door stole whatever else he had been about to say. Now that he was listening for them he could hear two muffled voices, Jeremy and someone else talking. The NCPD officer by the sound of it.

Jeremy opened the door slowly looking towards Angaelus and Kyoki apologetically. “If you are finished, the Officer needs your statement about what happened.” It had been Kyoki he had addressed, holding out his hand to help her down from the back of the ambulance. Angaelus held her hand for a moment longer before finally surrendering her to the due processing which awaited.

“Until Hong Kong then.” His gentle voice promised, the words intended for her alone.

A friend...

How long had it been for Kyoki since she had a friend? She had her own opinions of having friends; one, it had been too long since she had heard that word referenced to her and someone and two, she didn't deserve any. Though, given that, she wasn't going to pull away the smile that crawled across her face. For the psychopath she was, her smile was sweet and loving. She could have made a good wife, had beautiful children, and even may have been able to land a decent job. Sadly her past would deter any kind of family or future she could ever have.

When he responded that it would just be the two of them, Kyoki nodded her head. She only offered because she knew just how much he loved his daughter. Being away from her sister was hard, and if she could offer him to have Kitten come then she would. That and Jeremy as well, they were like brothers it seemed.

"Alright, then it'll be us..." She turned her head away and closed her eyes, "friends.." The word was so soft, and the sound of Jeremy opening the door muffled it even more.

It was time that Kyoki headed out. Even if she didn't want to talk to the police she had to, and she needed to let Jeremy and Angaelus go on about their lives. Even if she hesitated to release Angaelus's hand to take Jeremy's she did. When her feet were firmly planted on the ground, she turned back towards Angaelus and looked up into his eyes. Her smile hadn't disappeared, and after he spoke she responded. "Until then."

Jeremy would feel her hand tighten for a moment as she took a step away from the ambulance. Her eyes shifting to him and giving him a smile. "Thank you, Jeremy." She leaned forward and gave him a sweet kiss on his cheek before rounding him and going towards the police. Hopefully they were as understanding as Angaelus and Jeremy were.
