Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

"How's she doing today? ... Oh ... I sent the check in three days ago ... It went up? ... Oh ... Alright, I'll head to the bank now ... Thank you ... Tell her I said hi ... Bye"

Kyoki lowered her hand that held onto her phone, a moment of weakness flooding over her eyes. How had she been so careless as not to pay attention to the amount that was due at the hospital. Her life had been so hectic lately, working none stop and going back and forth for the Wo Shing, it was too much for one person to handle. On top of that, the hospital bills were going up and up, and soon they'd be taking every penny she had. It would leave her homeless, probably worse. Yet, none of that mattered. Even if there was only a fifteen percent chance that her sister would wake up from her induced coma, then by god she was going to do whatever it took to have it happen. It was the least Kyoki could do for her, after what she had to do to her family..

Pushing herself off the stone brick wall, Kyoki exited the alleyway she had snuck down to take the phone call. The bank was down the street, at least one that would send the check electronically. It was cold walk, but one she needed to make. Before she ran off to the bank she headed back upstairs and grabbed a jacket and put on her snow boots. The blanket of snow that covered the ground wasn't too bad, but one she didn't want to walk in with just her flippers on.

There wasn't a lot on her mind except for her sister. Inside she fought the demons that haunted her existence, telling her one thing but pulling her in another direction. She had so much to fight for and yet it seemed so easy to stop. If it weren't for the Wo Shing requiring her to be in Niwa, she would be living in Hong Kong with her sister, waiting for her to wake up. It broke her heart to be away from the only thing that connected her to her past, and the only thing that kept her sane--at least on the outside. She gives Kyoki a reason to live, and a reason to keep fighting.

As she walked, Kyoki should've been paying more attention to where she was going. But because her mind wondered, she didn't realize that the light was red on her side, and she didn't have the go ahead to walk the crosswalk to the other side. Yet she was paying enough attention to catch the glimpse of the bumper at the corner of her eye. Her reaction was quick enough to were she threw her hands up and summoned a force push hard enough to send herself flying backwards. The car, or whatever it was, hadn't hit her, however the force did send her back to the sidewalk where she rolled to a stop. Thank god for snow, it was the only thing that saved her from cracking her skull on the pavement.

Her long purple hair scattered across the snow white ground, and a grumbling noise could be heard as she shifted her wait. 'Son of a bi**h!!!' Kyoki rolled off to her side and began picking herself up. One of her boots had been lost in the street somewhere, and her jacket was resting half off her shoulder. The worst of it was it, was that her black jeggings had ripped at the knees, but there didn't seem to be any bodily injury sustained to her.

Turning her head, Kyoki looked around as people stood back in shock at what had just happened. Her lavender eyes scanning for any wreck, but she hadn't heard anyone crash, so maybe the car just kept going...

“I’m not moving into the spare bedroom.” Jeremy was adamant, this was his stand to make and he was making it. So what if he had been living with Angaelus and Kitten for the past few weeks. It was temporary.

At least that was what he kept telling himself.

“Jer, you lost your apartment, you do not have any furniture. You also do not need to continue to sleep on my couch when there is a perfectly good bed in the other room.” When Angaelus packaged it all up like that it was hard to refute. “Plus, Kitten loves you.” Brining the seven year old into it was fighting dirty. But she was going to be heartbroken when Jeremy moved out. If he moved out, he had not exactly been looking for a rental space.

“If I stayed, and I am only saying if at this stage... you would have to let me pay rent and a share of the bills.” There were definite cracks appearing in his argument. But Angaelus had not let him pay for anything, ever, at any stage ~ so far he had been a guest. Jeremy was completely convinced the man was a secret millionaire who worked as a paramedic to try and help people. He was not that far from the truth...

“If that is what will make you comfortable.” There was no hesitation in the older man. This was the furthest he had gotten. Not even Kitten jumping on Jeremy first thing in the morning had been a deterrent ~ nor would it be. She was adorable. “You are the one pushing me to help people. I couldn’t have done that the other night if you were not there.” The ambulance moved towards the intersection, but that was the final straw as far as moving in went.

Jeremy had not taken his attention off the street around them, but what he saw seemed like it was playing in slow motion. Even the best driver in the world could not have avoided the very familiar woman who walked out in front of the vehicle in the lane next to them. The car swerved and broke, but skidded in the snow and ice, slamming into the side of the ambulance after Kyoki went flying further away from the intersection.

If it had not been for the collision with the ambulance the car could have overcorrected and very well skidded right into her and the other bystanders on the sidewalk. As it was the middle aged man who had been driving just sat there clinging to his steering wheel in a state of shock. Angaelus’ door was buckled inward and pinned by the other car, but in the space of a heartbeat Jeremy had managed to flick on the lights and flew out of the driver side door. With Angaelus only a step behind him. As much as Jeremy wanted to go to the purple haired woman, if anyone was going to be injured in all of this ~ it was going to be her and his partner was better qualified on that front. Instead he approached the driver of the car still jammed against the side of the Ambulance. "Are you injured, Sir?"

Angaelus skidded to a halt in the snow caked sidewalk, his arm naturally sliding around Kyoki’s waist as she tried to stand offering her his strength and support. One touch told him that she was relatively uninjured... car accidents had a way or turning his stomach. Anyone who knew what had happened to his adopted daughter would understand exactly why that was. Man versus machine never ended well. By the time she would have been standing again Kyoki would have been nose to nose with a very familiar compassionate, albeit relieved, smile.

“We need to stop meeting like this, Kyoki.” Angaelus spoke softly, his eyes looking into her violet gaze, he could never have forgotten her name.

'So stupid...' 'You should kill the driver'

Kyoki cursed under her breath, punching at the snow as she saw the ambulance at which the car had crashed into. The last thing that she wanted was someone that was already injured, being caused to stop because of her stupidity. The purple haired girl turned her head back to the white snow and clinched her fist. How had she been so careless? If she would've been hit by that car and died, who would be there to take care of her sister; no one, that was who. There was no one in this world that would pay for the hospital stay until her sister woke from the coma. It was something that both broke her heart and caused her to keep it beating.

Feeling an arm around her waist caused Kyoki to turn her head quickly to see someone picking her up off the ground. The smell, his hands, they were all so familiar. She didn't even need to look him in the eyes to tell that it was her guardian angel from before. However, when she did, she remembered just how stupid she was for not trying to get in touch with him again. Angaelus and Jeremy were there to save the day again for her... not only that, she had just ruined there ambulance.

"Angaelus..." She said once she got to her feet, the distance between the two of them was, surprisingly comfortably close. "I..."

"You crazy bitch!!" The sounds of the driver that had crashed into the ambulance came from across the street. He had completely ignored Jeremy's question and pulled himself from the wrecked car. The worst that could be seen was that his head was cut open at his forehead, but other then that he seemed find. He fluently moved across the sidewalk, waving his hands in the air and screaming at Kyoki. "What were you thinking?!"

Kyoki turned her head off to the side and pushed away from Angaelus. "I-I'm sorry sir, I'll pa--" "Sorry doesn't cut it! You even caused a collision with an ambulance!" He was relentless, and even the people around were agreeing with him. How could someone, an adult for that matter, be so reckless.

'Kill them... show them reckless...'

The purple haired girl closed her eyes and nodded her head, "Right... I'll pay for whatever damage.." 'Great... more expenses...' There was defeat across her face as she took a deep breath and bit softly at the corner of her lip. This was not something that she could afford right now, not with everything going on. It looked like she'd be sleeping at the school for a while, especially with the way this guy was reacting. He seemed as if he were going to take whatever he could from her.

She didn't even want to look up at Angaelus at that point, all she wanted to do was run away. Yet she couldn't, not in this situation she couldn't. Even if it would be so easy for her to do it...

Angaelus did not turn around at the sound of the man ranting. With so many people standing around staring he was not going to use his abilities to heal a minor concussion. Had Kyoki been injured though, the whole street would have seen exactly what he was.

“Sir, this is not the time or place. Every insurance company in the world covers accidents. Which is what this was, an accident.” Jeremy was putting his fast talking to some good, making sure that he put himself between the angry driver and Kyoki. If the crowd wanted to get involved they were going to be booing the man off the street in a few seconds. “What kind of human being cares about a fender bender when someone could have been seriously injured?”

Even Angaelus winced. Alright, so he usually did not go for the throat like that, but people like this driver needed a swift kick in the backside. He could not win a lawsuit against Kyoki for the damages and anyone with half a dozen brain cells to rub together knew that. If she had not managed to leap back so fast he would have been facing criminal charges. Some ultimate clause about pedestrians having right of way.

How had she managed to leap out of the way so fast?

While Jeremy was entertaining the crowd and putting the driver in his place Angaelus smiled at Kyoki. “Come with me.” If the other driver did not want medical attention, neither of the paramedics was going to force it onto him. But Angaelus had an over protective need to get Kyoki out of the middle of the street.

Paramedics did not command the same kind of all encompassing respect that police officers did, but they were also not shot at. To the average citizen the blue uniform held about the same standing as fire fighters without the heroic status. So when Jeremy started redirecting the crowd they either fell back or dispersed completely. The car may have lost its front quarter, but aside from the slight buckling of the passengers side door the Ambulance was unscathed.

And sitting in the middle of traffic.

“Sir, do you require medical attention?” Jeremy had just ripped shred of the man and he still managed to turn around and ask that with all sincerity. Either he was going to give Jeremy an answer or he needed to move the Ambulance out of traffic. Most people could work out what the red and blue flashing lights were but with any luck the NCPD were not far away to play traffic redirection. At least until the car could get towed.

Angaelus would have guided Kyoki the long way around to the back of the ambulance if he needed to, opening up the back door and holding it for her. “I know that you are alright.” He confided, casting a meaningful look back to the knee jerking driver. “I just want to make sure you are safe.” It would have been the way he said it, the same compassion she had woken to in his home. The moment she accepted his offer he would have stepped up behind her and pulled the door closed, shutting the rest of the world out.

"Pfft, of course. It's just because she's a woman. A beautiful one." The man spat as Jeremy began to defend Kyoki. In of which she lifted her head up and glanced over towards him. She really should've called the two of them, there was no way she wouldn't regret that. Kyoki forced herself to turn away from the man and look over at Angaelus. She did not deserve to have someone like him and Jeremy in her life, they were too good for her. Kyoki was a lost soul, one that couldn't be pulled from the pits of hell that she was thrown into.

When Angaelus called to her to grab her attention, she looked up at him with a half baked smile. She hadn't wanted to cause any problems, not when she was already having so many wrapped around her already. But, what was she to do, say no? She couldn't pull away form him as he guided her to the back of the ambulance. The driver of the vehicle that slammed into the ambulance all but eyed her as she moved. However, he'd not like the look that Kyoki gave him this time. There was no sweet, apologetic girl anymore; her expression was that of disgust and hatred. Before she rounded the ambulance and disappeared, she lipped ' I'll kill you '.

The man took a step back and with a confused expression on his face he turned to Jeremy and swallowed hard. "N-No just get me a tow truck."

Inside the ambulance, Kyoki took a step in and sat down on the stretcher in the back. Her legs dangled over the side and her hands gripped at the sides. Was she really alright though? Physically, she felt perfectly fine, maybe besides the fact that her hands were frozen to the core, but other than that she hadn't been hurt. Lifting her hands to look at the loss of color in them, she rested them down in her lap and rubbed them against her legs to try and warm them up.

"I'm definitely safe now." She said with such a sweet tone. If anything, Angaelus kept that sanity she clung onto within reach. Her head lifted up to find him as he closed the door behind them. The world beyond the ambulance had been shut up, and all there was now was just him and her. Nothing to yell at her or stare at her for the mistake she had just made. It was nice to just breath without having someone jump down her throat.

Giving in and looking up into Angaelus eyes, Kyoki sighed and shook her head lightly. "I am so sorry... Normally I pay more attention to what is going on around me. Just, I -- today has just -- er, I'm trying to say, I don't know what's wrong with me." She was so flustered that she couldn't even concentrate on a single sentence, and her words were all jumbled up. 'Way to look like a fool, Kyoki...' She thought closing her eyes and dropping her head, her chin hitting her chest.

His hands cupped around hers and the warmth of his palms would have instantly started seeping into her frozen fingers. Everything about Angaelus was warm, comforting, reassuring. And when he had looked at her with those gentle grey eyes... He had only held her eyes for a moment before she looked down. She did not need to apologise to him, so what if his door did not open and close anymore. Even if it had been worse, Angaelus would have been fine. It was Kyoki he was worried about.

Before he got a chance to ask Jeremy jumped into the driver’s seat and put the ambulance into reverse. There was a moment the other car did not want to let go, but they finally separated and Jeremy pulled the emergency vehicle behind the car, opening up another lane of traffic. “I’m going to go put a bandaid on that guy’s head, and maybe some duct tape around his mouth.” Jeremy was all heart and slightly protective over the people he knew. He gave Angaelus a look questioning whether he had everything in the ambulance under control. It only took a nod from the older man and he was off again closing the door and their world returned to quiet.

Bringing one of his hands underneath her chin he would have gently lifted her face to his, searching those lavender eyes. “Open up to me.” He encouraged, the compassion in his voice was almost a tangible thing. On a physical level she was fine, more than fine. It was not even like she was in shock. Whatever had just happened was not what had her so confused and lost. “Tell me what is going on.”

Kyoki was beautiful, he had understood that the moment he had seen her with Kitten. He did not need to know what she was beyond a person capable of love. People did what they needed to do to survive. He of all beings realised that what someone did was not the definition of who they were. Just like the first time he had met her, Angaelus wanted to take the pain away. But this pain did not exist on a physical level.

When Jeremy came back into the ambulance, Kyoki had turned around to look at him. The feeling of the car moving backwards had her holding onto Angaelus hand a bit tighter. Just so that she could steady herself and not go tumbling over when the cars detached from one another. The sound of the cars separating made her tighten her grip even more, this was all her fault. "Hey Jeremy," She called out just as he finished speaking, "Thank you.." She offered him a sweet smile, before letting him jump out of the ambulance and head back to the grumpy man.

Kyoki turned back around, keeping her head down just for a moment. She would have lifted it any moment now, but Angaelus did it for her. His warm gaze meeting hers; how could she not melt into them? He was probably the most handsome person she had ever laid eyes on, next to Jeremy of course. That guy could steal any girls heart away, and they'd be lucky to have it stolen. Angaelus was a paramedic and a damn good one at that, his job was to make people comfortable and make them feel safe. If this were any other moment, Kyoki would have thought more of his affection, but she couldn't expect this to be anything more then him working.

He wanted her to open up to him, tell him what was going on with her. Yet, how could she do that? She hadn't told anyone about her sister, because they'd ask too many questions. What happened, who did it, why'd they do it. All of those questions would incriminate her. Seeing as she is the reason her sister is in the coma. It broke her heart every day, something that could never be fixed by Angaelus sweet, sensible touch. He could never understand what she was going through, no one could.

Yet... maybe it was because of his warmth and the way he spoke, it made her want to tell him. To plead for his help to save her sister. She had thought about it, there was only one way he could've saved her that day. Only a healer could have taken that much of the poison from her body and saved her as he had. So why hadn't she asked him for help? Healers, priests, witches and even sorcerers had been hired to try and bring her sister from her coma. Nothing worked. It had all been... useless.

Where should she start...

Should she really open up to him and tell him something she'd never said to anyone? Why was she so afraid?

"My sister, she is in a hospital in Hong Kong. She fell into a coma a few years ago, and today I found out the payment went up. I was heading over to the bank to deposit the check..." Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes, "I've been working a lot lately, and I guess I just -- I don't know -- heh, I don't know." She chuckled, but it held nothing but an empty meaning to it. "I'm just tired I guess." That really wasn't it. Kyoki could work and work and work, and never need to take a break. There was definitely a deeper issue there that she didn't want people to see.

Especially not Angaelus. He didn't need to worry about her. She was a strong person and for as long as she could remember, she hadn't need anyone to worry about her.

Opening her eyes she found his gray eyes, "You're too good at your job, Angaelus." He cared. It was something she hadn't had in a long time; someone to care about her...

Again, Angaelus got to patch up the beautiful women while Jeremy had to pander to the overly abusive middle aged man. Why did it always turn out this way? He would have more luck sweeping some girl off her feet that already looked at him in that heroic kind of way. At least the driver still looked scolded, his eyes lifting to the Ambulance every now and then as though he could see beyond the solid sides. The outburst had probably been born of fear, but people really needed to start treating each other better. It was no wonder there were so many accidents.

He was not being deliberately rough... ok well, maybe just a little. But the man had a hard head and he deserved it. The tow truck and police were already on their way. This whole mess would not even make a side note in the Niwa News. Although, it was not every day someone hit an emergency vehicle.

Inside the ambulance, Angaelus did not push or pry, he waited for Kyoki to either open up to him or to shut down completely. It almost seemed too much to hope that she would opt for opening up. She had not seemed the type to throw away her life, and if the words which fell from her lips were any indication she had more to live for than most people.

“I do not ask because it is my job.” That smile and reassurance was all he could give her, he cared about her. He would not have taken her, a complete stranger, home that day if he did not care. Through the front windscreen he could have seen Jeremy cleaning up the small gash on the driver’s head and putting some strips over it in place of stitches. Not that Angaelus looked, Kyoki was the whole centre of his focus.

“Hong Kong is a long way away.” The distance was not lost on him. Angaelus could see the pain it caused her, in that unguarded moment it screamed from every part of her being. His empathic ability was more attuned physically than emotionally, but there were some things he could still feel. That would have been the international phone call she made from his place when she had woken up. He rarely interfered with people’s lives and he made promises even more infrequently, but the words were out before he could stop them.

“Kyoki, I may be able to help your sister.” She did not mention if her sister was older, younger... or what even caused the coma. “If it is a physical affliction.” There was a deep seeded seriousness in the offer behind his gentle exterior which suggested he was not some charlatan peddling tinctures. Angaelus never made promises he could not keep, and he had never openly offered to use his abilities before. She had already seen what he was, even if she had been too delirious from the poison to remember.

The warmth of his hand never left her cheek, his eyes holding her gaze. He had never been more sincere. “If you want my help... it is yours.”

Kyoki wanted to believe him when he said it wasn't just because it was his job. His tone and smile, it all screamed sincerity. She may just have trust issues, and that's why she couldn't bring herself to 'want' to believe him.

"It is quite the distance." She commented. Hong Kong was much safer then Niwa was, and the last thing she wanted to do was bring her sister to a city where there were bomb threads almost every week. If someone were to hurt her sister, or worse, there would be no stopping her wrath. If they thought they had seen destruction, they were sorely mistaken. "Yet I leave her there for a reason." It was written all over her face why; she feared for her life. Angaelus would easily be able to see that was the reason. He above anyone else should know just how bad Niwa was. It wasn't any place for someone that was already knocking on death's door.

Her hands had seemingly moved to his waist without her knowledge. The grip she took on his paramedic outfit was down right rough. No one had ever offered to help her or her sister. They only did what they had done for them because there was money involved. Kyoki didn't have enough money to pay for her ticket out to Hong Kong, let alone another healer. Yet, from how he was asking it was more of a gesture of one friend to the other. If he even considered himself a friend to her, she had all but been a burden on him from the moment they met. They didn't do that to people they cared about.

"I've.. tried before." Her words had defeat behind them, she tightened her grip at his uniform and bare her teeth. "Nothing seems to wake her up. No matter what I do; healers, saints, priests, other meta-humans -- nothing works." Of course she couldn't help but be frustrated by it.

Kyoki wasn't the type of person to cry, not unless she was knocking on deaths door in pain (as he had seen before), but tears balled up at the corner of her eyes. She had to force herself to look away. Her younger sister was the only thing she had to live for, and thinking about her... speaking about her was just something she was not mentally prepared for. Kyoki was a disaster, from the inside out. She had so many problems and none of them could be fixed with a warm hug or a gentle angelic touch. In essence, she was a lost cause.

What wasn't lost was her sister. She vowed that she'd bring her back so she could live a healthy life. One without the violence and death. Whether her sister remembered what had happened or not, Kyoki would remind her of it. She'd give her sister all the power to take revenge on their family. That vengeance would be on her. Then she'd live...

Kyoki didn't deserve to live, yet she did.

"Thank you..." Her gratitude was soft, but there. "but I'm alone on this one." There wasn't anything that could be done by anyone else. "As unfortunate as that maybe..."

True healers were few and far between in the world, at least that had been Angaelus’ experience in his time on the earth. The doctor in West Jinsei was the only one he knew of who openly advertised what he was and was a genuine miracle worker. But the fact remained he may not have been able to help Kyoki’s sister. Slipping into a coma was part physical... and part mental. He could repair neural pathways the body would never have known how to fix... but he could not wake a mind that was not ready to.

The grip she had on his uniform would have been frightening if he did not recognise it for the manifestation of her frustration. As much as he wanted to help, he needed Kyoki to let him. He could have offered her assistance with the medical bills... but he knew she was proud. His touch would have been so gentle when she turned away from him. He did not force her to look back, but his knuckles still brushed the tears from her cheeks.

Not once did he pull away, it was an internal struggle to hold himself back from pulling her into his arms. “Years ago, I lost someone who was close to me, closer than I ever thought someone could be. I opened my heart to her, loved her, and cherished every moment I had with her.” The words were softly spoken, still echoing with the emotion he spoke of. “But she was taken from me and everything in the world that was beautiful died with her.” There was so much pain in his voice, the sense of loss and hopelessness were not things he held back. “I wished that I had died with her.”

Jeremy pulled open the driver’s side door again and slipped into the seat. He turned around to say something but one look at Angaelus and Kyoki made him bite back whatever words he would have uttered.

“I could not have imagined a world without her in it.” With his free hand he managed to remove the necklace from around his neck. The simple gold band would have been far too small for any of his fingers, but the chain and ring pooled into his palm. “This belonged to her mother... she was a stranger I had never met before the day she died in my arms. But she made me promise to raise her unborn child. I loved her daughter from the moment she came into this world until I lost her to the shadows.” He could still feel the pain which twisted within his chest, it was a wound which could never be healed.

“I was lost for an eternity, all I knew was the darkness sitting on the edge of everything I thought I understood waiting to swallow me.” His eyes lifted to Jeremy sitting in the front of the Ambulance, the saddest smile tugging at the corner of the angel’s lips. “That was until one night we answered a call for a hit and run at an intersection just like this one and I lifted the broken body of a child still clinging to life from the frozen gutter.” Jeremy tried to hold Angaelus’ gaze but even he could not forget that night, the images of the mother and child smashed against the pavement would always haunt him.

“I pieced her back together one cell at a time, I healed the damage to her brain... the fracture in her skull. In the span of one night I repaired the snapped vertebra in her back and what the doctors would have called irreversible damage to her spine that should have left her a cripple.” It had been love which forced him to try, love for a girl he should never have known. “I had been saving people for so long, but it was one broken little girl who finally managed to save me.” Angaelus’ eyes would have dropped to the hands she held balled into his uniform. His heart ached to be able to take it all away from her. The pain, the frustration, the anger and the defeat. “She gave my life meaning again and I could not help but fall completely in love everything about her.”

If Kyoki had not looked back up he would have brought her face to meet his however he needed to. He needed her to understand what he was before she turned him away. “I am not a healer or a saint... I am not even a meta human. I am something else... but if you believe for one moment that I can help your sister.” He would have searched her violet coloured eyes, pleaded with her to let him in. “Let me try, because I know what it is to be lost.”
