| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? The large black case was held in both of Shae’s hands, half cradled as she walked towards the elevator. There was that look, the serious frown which crossed Shae’s face when she was trying to tackle a problem she did not know how to solve. Was it a problem? Never having shot her gun was a problem... but that was something she would get around to eventually. Anyone familiar with the anti material rifle would have recognised the case instantly. No wonder Shae was cradling it. The thing would have weighed a quarter of what Shae did. Who was she kidding? Right then, the heavy gun case was the least of her worries. Stepping out on the ground floor Lyn would have been walking up to the elevator. Shae did not miss a beat, somehow managing to hold the case with one hand and swing the tall beautiful amazon around with her. Her arm was laced around the blonde officer’s waist and she was guiding them towards the parking lot. “I need you to come with me.” Shae informed her in that oh-so-serious tone, but her voice was hushed and she sounded almost desperate. It could have been an order, but Shae had never issued one of those ~ even if she was Peter’s lieutenant. No, this was a personal request but the smaller woman was not going to take no for an answer. “I promise to do all of your paperwork for a month!” It must have been serious! “Including everything which is still on your desk.” Shae would have dragged Lyn all the way to the undercover parking lot and appropriated one of the vehicles. Probably Jon’s since she was already familiar with his car. It was a good thing she did not need keys ~ if she had chosen to be a criminal, boosting cars would have been a mister meaner crime. Shae could have melted the entire global stock exchange in a matter of minutes if she wanted to... The Lieutenant did not even say where they were going, she just blindly trusted that Lyn would get into the car with her. Oh god, Lyn... please get into the car! |

Was this all it was? Had Shae been overreacting? Lyn was right. Dinner or a date date... it was just that. It wasn’t happily ever after. Jon obviously felt that there was something there and he was taking a chance to pursue it. The last question hung in the air... Did she want him? Did she really need to answer that? Wanting to be closer to Jon had never really been a question. “I do... I mean, I think I do.” Lyn hit the nail on the head when she said Jon was a sweetheart. “I just don’t know if I’m ready, or if I would ever be ready.” That was one way of summing it up. “I don’t want to hurt him or scare him away.” Somewhere between starting that sentence and finishing it, Shae had wrapped the earmuffs around her neck and loaded three shots into her rifle. Setting the gun down on the ground and laying down beside it. Because one person being ready and the other one not was a recipe for disaster. “He is so ... and when he smiles ...” Shae was threatening to turn into a melted puddle on the ground at the rate she was going. The words she gave voice to may have been confused, but everything else, her tone, her body language. It was obvious she was completely into him... now if only she could get out of her own way. |

Lyn sat down next to Shae after she set herself down. She put an arm around her as a sign of empathy. It was tough to explain. Shae shouldn’t worry too much about Jon. He was a very big boy, and as much as Lyn enjoyed her being self-less; it wouldn’t help her at all now. “I know » Lyn said with too much emotion. Honestly, Lyn liked Jon too. Body aside, he had such a cute personality. She just wanted to watch him squirm… Lyn didn’t feel bad for feeling what she did. Feelings couldn’t be controlled, but actions could, and it’s not like she’d hand him the key to her place, or trap him alone in the showers… “Jon’s a big boy and you shouldn’t worry about him. You got to be honest with yourself first. You want him? Get him and… if you’re not ready, don’t deflect and use him as an excuse. And honestly, I’ve seen the way he looks at you. Even while we were in the showeeeers~ He didn’t even glance at me. » She said teasingly. “Soooo don’t worry. It’s not a real date, and if things feel right… who knows, you might end up wearing nothing but his hands” |

Lyn was always so casual about everything, just take it all in stride. “One step at a time.” Shae would probably start hyperventilating if she didn’t know what was going to happen before it happened. Her complete inability to adapt to a situation was where most of her awkwardness came from. But Lyn just being Lyn was one of the most wonderful things in the world. Wearing nothing but hands... Shae wasn’t usually one to move that quickly. But staring down the sight of her rifle gave her all the time in the world for the colour to fade from her cheeks. Pulling her earmuffs up over her ears she winked up at Lyn suggesting she did the same. It had taken Shae less than a second to learn everything there was to know about her rifle. Being able to digitally absorb the information was kind of like cheating... but why could real life be that simple and easy to master? The only thing she hadn’t done was actually pull the trigger. No time like the present! Aim, breathe, check the wind and distance... set herself... breathe. Exhale and squeeze the trigger. Even fully set on the ground the rifle kicked back into her shoulder. Not enough to do any damage but she sure as hell felt it. A few shots and her shoulder would be numb! Looking through the scope she could see where the bullet ripped through the paper target. A slight frown crossing her face. “That isn’t right...” She whispered loudly. Compensating for the earmuffs by yelling. The bullet had hit the second ring from 600 yards away. Some beginners luck, she was sure she did everything backwards. |

Lyn whistled impressed as she looked at where the target was using her binoculars. « Wow Shae, you’re a crack shot!” She said clapping her hands together. She noticed her discontent. “Oh come on. Maybe it’s a sign from destiny! Like you’ll hit it with Jon.” She said as she tapped her shoulder. The noise the weapon made was just amazing. She wanted to try it. “Hey, let me have a turn” She said, as she picked up the rifle from her grasp. She stayed standing, and propped her elbow up, as she rested the rifle on it and looked through the scope. Her arm had shifted to metal to stop them from shaking. She relaxed her lower half to better absorb the recoil. She took aim, and…. BAMM Her eyes widened. The target was covered in blood. It happened so quickly, a bird flew in front of it at the last minute and got hit by the bullet. “Oh gawd….” Lyn said sheepishly as she handed the rifle back to Shae. “Maybe that’s a sign I should just stick with my life, ne Shae?” She said with an embarrassed laughter. |

Bird? There hadn’t been any bird... no it was like a pillow full of feathers had exploded with what blood had splattered over the target. “I think you deserve bonus points for that.” Shae exclaimed, pulled the earmuffs off. Her usual bright smile returning in full. Not because her rifle had just claimed a life, she was completely oblivious to the fact Lyn had just murdered something. It was Lyn, she was so sweet to Shae all the time it was hard not to adore the other officer. “Tell you what... how about I take a few more shots until I am more comfortable with my rifle ~ or until I can’t feel my shoulder anymore.” Which her shoulder going numb was going to happen a lot quicker. “And we can head up into Fuyuyama Proper, there is a kimono shop up there.” After Shae kidnapped Lyn, it was the least she could have done. Plus, they were already half way there. They would need to take Caitlyn out there one day, but there was nothing wrong with investigating the place first. If Lyn was game, she would settle back down with her rifle and line the next target up. Preferably not the one with the blood splatted all over it. Although, pulling the trigger was a strange kind of therapy. |
