  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The large black case was held in both of Shae’s hands, half cradled as she walked towards the elevator. There was that look, the serious frown which crossed Shae’s face when she was trying to tackle a problem she did not know how to solve. Was it a problem? Never having shot her gun was a problem... but that was something she would get around to eventually. Anyone familiar with the anti material rifle would have recognised the case instantly. No wonder Shae was cradling it. The thing would have weighed a quarter of what Shae did. Who was she kidding? Right then, the heavy gun case was the least of her worries.

Stepping out on the ground floor Lyn would have been walking up to the elevator. Shae did not miss a beat, somehow managing to hold the case with one hand and swing the tall beautiful amazon around with her. Her arm was laced around the blonde officer’s waist and she was guiding them towards the parking lot. “I need you to come with me.” Shae informed her in that oh-so-serious tone, but her voice was hushed and she sounded almost desperate. It could have been an order, but Shae had never issued one of those ~ even if she was Peter’s lieutenant. No, this was a personal request but the smaller woman was not going to take no for an answer. “I promise to do all of your paperwork for a month!” It must have been serious! “Including everything which is still on your desk.”

Shae would have dragged Lyn all the way to the undercover parking lot and appropriated one of the vehicles. Probably Jon’s since she was already familiar with his car. It was a good thing she did not need keys ~ if she had chosen to be a criminal, boosting cars would have been a mister meaner crime. Shae could have melted the entire global stock exchange in a matter of minutes if she wanted to...

The Lieutenant did not even say where they were going, she just blindly trusted that Lyn would get into the car with her. Oh god, Lyn... please get into the car!

Lyn was beaming, and trotting to work.

She saw Shae heading towards her, and was about to wave her and greet her, but before she realized what had happened she was walking beside her in the opposite direction. Things went so fast, and Shae was rarely like this, although… she would be paper free for an entire month. It would be more for Caitlyn, since she took on the role of being… Lyn’s paper pusher. But Lyn produced so much that even Caitlyn was swamped, and it caused much distress since Lyn didn't want her to have that burden on her own. Though, she didn't need to promise that… Lyn would’ve followed either way, both because she is a friend, and her commanding officer.

“Oh, hum, sure! Okay!” Lyn said happily as she got in the car. Maybe Shae was leading her to an operation that required kicking some criminal ass! She didn't think it was anything negative and if it was something disciplinary Shae would scold her in the comfort of her office. It hasn't happened, yet and it would be a weird situation as Lyn would instinctively go to Shae if she ever got... disciplined.

“So…hum… Where we going? And what’s with the sniper case?”
She asked as she put on her seat belt. Lyn was familiar with the case, Yui carried one similar.

How many people can say they just asked a car to start? Within a few minutes the unmarked car had pulled into the steady stream of traffic heading for Fuyuyama. Maybe she should have asked Lyn to drive because Shae was not exactly focused. She took a slow deep breath, at least she tried to. It looked more like she was about to hyperventilate.

“There is a long distance rifle range out in Fuyuyama Lower.” It explained the car trip and the case. But kilometres would have passed before Shae spoke again. Shooting her canon was more like therapy, not the reason the Lieutenant had stolen Lyn the moment she saw her. Shae had always been a private person, not intentionally ~ she just never burdened other people with her problems. For the most part she looked like she had it all figured out, nothing could have been further from the truth.

...

“He asked me out. On a date-date.”

There, she said it around the growing lump in her throat. Not even the clarification of who 'he' was. After how everything ended with Jacob Shae did not really feel as though she was qualified to make any kind of decisions on her personal life.

Lyn nodded. So Shae wanted to go out shooting in Fuyuyama that actually sounded kind of neat. Though… Did Shae want Lyn to give her some tips? The Steel Maiden was hardly gun savvy. She usually just runs up to criminals, with a riot shield if they are heavily armed, and punches them and restrains them physically. Her gun holster still had a working clip. She barely uses it, if at all. People react just as strongly with a metal fist being pointed at them.

She was going to speak up, but looking on how Shae was driving, she kept her mouth shut. Something must’ve happened. She didn`t drag it out of her, as Lyn looked outside. Plus, if she spoke up, Shae might tense up even more and they’d be in a crash.

“Oh My god, Really?!” Lyn said excitedly as she clapped and held her hands together.
“Well, don’t keep me on the edge of my seat here! What did you say?!” Lyn knew Shae meant a certain super handsome and tall Jon Nothing Ham. Just the way she reacted when she first said his name… Lyn knew he’d be off limits. They met and tested their powers against each other. He is a good man.

“I said no...” Shae replied, but the tone in her voice was confused, as though she was asking if it had been the right answer or not. “I said yes to dinner as friends, but no to the date-date.” Oh god... had she made a mistake? Thinking back to Jon’s reaction she didn’t think it had been a mistake at the time, but Lyn had more experience in dealing with these situations... and well, any situations which involved men.

But the way he had hugged her... just wrapping his arms around her ~ Shae had melted and that no she had given him echoed for the lie it was. “I wanted to say yes... but after everything, after Jacob and the mess I made...” The look on her face spoke volumes, she was concentrating on driving, and it was the most immediate thing she could think of to distract herself with.

That and shooting her rifle.

“I just feel that no matter what I do, I am making a huge mistake. And it is against regulations...” Not that it had stopped her with partner. If they had not been in the flow of traffic her head would have face planted the steering wheel. Even her voice reflected how completely and utterly lost she was.

“And he is so...” Did she really need to say it? “Why would he be interested in me? I’m no one... I am the weird girl who sits in the computer room all day.” What emotional crisis would be complete without a side serving of self doubt?

Lyn gasped loudly.

“You said no?!”

She listened as she explained her actions. They made sense. Aaah Jacob, how many hearts have you broken? Would Lyn’s metal heart have been broken too had she decided to stick around more? She refused to believe Shae was to blame. At least she is still going out with him. Lyn likes Jon. He is a bit goofy, and he is strong, and that body of his meant he is also disciplined. She also noticed how maintains actual eye contact, and he doesn’t ogle… well, she did spot him checking a certain someone out.

“You’re way too harsh on yourself Shae-kins. Why wouldn’t he be interested in you is the question you should be asking yourself! You’re cute to boot, you’re super helpful, and you’re like way smart. You’re someone we can trust and depend on! I mean… Peter made you his SiC, didn’t he? We all see your value Shae!” Lyn said, tightening up her fist, and speaking with a fiery determination.

“And… what happened with you and Jacob. You can’t take all of the blame. It takes two to dance, and I know you’re not the type to let your partner dance on his own. Tell me what happened!”

Lyn said, ready to lend an ear. They were to talk about it before when Lyn moved in… but Lyn was sleep deprived, and Caitlyn was there. She respected Shae's privacy too much to bring it up with a third party. Some things are better private.

Lyn’s stern yet passionate account of what Shae was in the other woman’s eyes was, in typical Lyn style, heart warming. She practically undid everything that the little voice in the Lieutenant’s head told her she was failing at. Peter had given her that position for more reasons than he had given her, but she had never been in a position to question why. Maybe it was because she would never stop trying.

The question about Jacob gave her something else to focus on. Something familiar, unlike the uncertainty which surrounded Jon. “I don’t know what happened.” Shae’s response was quiet, but at least it stopped her erratic behaviour on the road. “We spent so long pretending that there was nothing between us, we lied to you... to Caitlyn. Everyone who should have been our friends.” There was sadness in her voice when she spoke. “I don’t know if it was any one thing. Maybe neither of us were ready and there was just too much baggage there.” That is what Shae told herself.

People grew apart all the time, it was what they did. “Then I took the job with C.R.A.S.H. and I never looked back.” It was not entirely true, she did look back. She looked back all the time but Jacob wasn’t there. At least not the Jacob she knew. Could they have worked it out? She needed to believe that they could have otherwise she may as well have admitted she was a lost cause.

Shae was still a lost cause.

Pulling up to the otherwise empty rifle range Shae slumped back in the seat finally looking to Lyn. The universal question why couldn’t it ever be easy painted on her face. She had poured her heart out to her parent’s graves hoping that she could have found some clarity on the whole thing... what she found was a certified psychopath. At least Lyn was human ~ sort of. She was everything Shae wished she could have been, more than that she was someone the small officer had always trusted.

“Oh Honey... you shouldn’t feel bad about not telling us. If neither of you were ready to tell us it’s fine. You shouldn’t worry too much about doing stuff for our benefit, especially when it’s your own life, Shae-kins!”

Lyn slept with Jacob. Before the two of them met, Lyn had a very flirty relationship with Jacob. The only reason why it didn’t go very far was due to lyn’s awful work schedule and lack of free time. The few times they did hang out was…. Magical time. Normally, someone finding out their fling had found someone would cause jealousy, but not to Lyn. She knew very well she could never give Jacob what he wanted, and figuring out he was going out with Shae gave her some relief.

“Hey…”
she said as he let her go, and looked in her eyes.

“Before you came along, Jacob and i… were intimate… We drifted too. Geez, what an idiot, letting two hawt tamales go. His lost.” She said with a sigh.

“But this ain’t about him, so come on. let’s destroy some targets with that rifle!”

It wasn’t just they the whole thing had been kept a secret, it was that none of it had felt real. There had never been any commitment between them. Realistically they were never anything more than friends with benefits... and too much baggage to let go of. Jacob and Lyn..? Well, that suddenly explained a lot. That Jacob had never thought to tell her stung. Lyn had never really known what was going on between Shae and Jacob to tell her.

Talking about previous lovers was not really something most guys did though.

Shae didn’t know what she was suppose to feel or to think about that. Everything was so long ago now she was detached from most of it. Did it matter? Slipping her rifle case from the back seat and offering Lyn a smile she decided that it really didn’t. She wasn’t the kind of girl to sleep with a guy she wasn’t prepared to commit herself to. Not that she judged people who enjoyed taking lovers. It just wasn’t what she wanted. Shae wanted love.

“I never knew.” That was all she said, slightly pulling a face. But she had come out here to put holes in inanimate objects. It was a way of working through her issues. The foremost among them being Jon and why was she trying so hard to push him away?

The rifle range proprietor had started explaining the rules to them being first timers until Shae offered up her Lieutenants badge with her ID for his records. After that he just kind of smiled at them and waved them through with a stack of paper targets and the promise of all the ammunition they could possibly want. Shae was in the middle of pulling her rifle out of the case and assembling it when she looked to Lyn. “I have no idea what to do.” There it was... “Not the rifle, I know what to do with that.” Shae blushed as she reassured Lyn she wasn’t completely hopeless. “I mean with Jon.”

“Eh… Figures…” Lyn said with a sigh. She followed her to the rifle range. To be honest, Lyn was lousy with weapons; it was a good thing Shae just wanted to talk. Not much Lyn could offer in terms of weapon handling. Unless she meant a certain someone…

“What is there to do?” Lyn said simply.

“You obviously like him, or else you wouldn’t feel so conflicted, and you got to remember. Every guy is different. Some are sweethearts most of the time, and some are unfeeling braggy jerks. And Jon is a sweetheart, and it’s not like by accepting to go out with him you’re putting a ring on your finger.”

Lyn went over and got two pairs of Shooting Earmuffs and she handed one to her.

“Thing is… Do you want him?”
