Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Scarlett barely climbed out of the taxi cab without clinching her jaw and hissing through her teeth. The hospitals didn't have healers on standby, which she didn't understand why. However there wasn't anything she could do about it, the last thing she was going to do was stay the night in a hospital. She had been there for about five hours and all they could do was secure the bone so that it would begin to heal on its own. She would have to go back tomorrow so that they could finish up with the surgery. However she demanded to go home, even if they didn't want to let her there was no stopping the pyromancer from lighting her way out of there.

Through the lobby she went, and as she passed the man that worked at the front desk he rushed from around and moved to the elevator. "Are you alright?" The sling that held her arm up told the story. The bloody clothes she had on were torn, but there wasn't blood coming from anywhere--at least not anymore. The man had a fearful expression on his face, yet he wanted to help anyway that he could. Even if that was just summoning the elevator.

"Yes, just press the button."
Her tone wasn't rude, just very straight forward. She wanted nothing more then to take off her clothes and get cleaned up. He obliged and called the elevator down for her. His eyes followed her until she stepped into the elevator and the doors closed behind her. Scarlett would have to thank him for his concern another day.

The ride up made her sick, even if she couldn't feel it moving at all. That was the last time she would train with someone before the fight against the Empress. She obviously couldn't pay attention long enough to finish a fight, and would end up killing herself before they got to the battle zone.

What was funny was, she didn't think of how Wraith would react to this. She had all but forgotten he was probably worried sick about where she was and why she was coming home this late. Normally she'd show up between eleven and twelve each night, shower then go to bed. If work held her longer, it wasn't until three in the morning. How would she explain what happened? She wondered if he would take that it was an accident, and forgive and forget. For some reason, she didn't see that happening one bit.

Once the elevator door opened and she made it to her apartment door she unlocked it and very quietly slipped in. Her grace wasn't so fluent as her elbow bumped into the door and she yelped out in pain. "Son of a--" Biting her tongue she leaned against the wall and slammed the door shut. So much for trying to be quiet. There was no grace in her at the moment, a different side to Scarlett that hadn't been seen before.

"Wraith?" Scarlett called out through the darkened apartment. It was that moment it hit her, how was she going to tell him. She hoped that he wouldn't go after Arthur for this. It was her fault after all... "Sorry I'm so-- mmm-- late.." She tried to hide the pain behind her words, but he knew how to read her better then she knew how to read herself. It was both loving and kind of scary.

As Wraith got off the couch and moved towards her phone, Scarlett leaned back. She felt like a nuisance to both him and whomever this healer was. How could she have been so careless? The pyromancer was always paid attention, even to the finer details, how could she have lost even a second of her concentration during a battle? She knew that couldn't happen when she fought the Empress. There was no room for error and if there were to be a mistake, the least of Scarlett's problems would be a shattered collarbone, punctured lung and minimal mobility to her arm. Death would be calling her name, and taking her from this life. That was the last thing she wanted. There was nothing more important then her life now, and it was all because of him.

Her arm draped over her stomach, gripping at her shirt to hold it there. It was weak, but at least she was beginning to feel the sensation in her fingers again. Hearing him on the phone, Scarlett closed her eyes and just listened to his voice. Even his voice made her have a sense of calm. She remembered when he had called her at her office for the first time. Her lips curled into a smile, those simple memories the two of them had were priceless to her.

She would have her code changed first thing in the morning. Honestly, Wraith could do it himself. Without his knowledge, Scarlett had put everything she had in his name as a second owner. He was someone that didn't need money or insurance, but if something were to happen to Scarlett, the last thing she wanted was everything she had going to her mothers. That, or Uncle Rat. On top of that, everyone in the building that was important, knew who Wraith was. They wouldn't question why he was having the code changed.

For him to be so unguarded like he was, giving her code to this healer, Wraith must have trusted the man. Because he wasn't trusting him with his own life, but with hers.

She heard the clicking of the phone being hung up and his footsteps coming towards her. Opening her eyes, she smiled at him and moved a bit to let him sit beside her. Holding her hand out, she rested it against his lap and brushed her thumb against the fabric of his pants. He was so handsome in his regular clothes, but it was nothing compared to what he looked like with his armor on. Though, he was perfect either way; especially without clothing.

As he thanked her, Scarlett couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Right... because I am the one.." She pushed herself up a bit, gritting her teeth. "Needing to be thanked.." She caught a glimpse of him moving his hand up to her face. The ever so loving feeling of his hand brushing her hair back behind her ear made her lean against it. "Thank you."

Watching as he moved his head in to oblige to her earlier request, Scarlett moved her hand up and rested it against his stomach. Her head tilted off to the side a bit and shut her eyes. The feeling of his lips making contact with hers shot sparks through her body. It may not have actually taken the pain away but it was a good distraction from it. Oh how she loved the taste of his lips against hers. It was something that she'd never get tired of. Even if they both lived for eternity, a millennia could go by and Scarlett still would ask for him to kiss her.

Even though it was obvious that she didn't need to ask.

Her hand gripped at his shirt, wanting to pull him closer to her. All she desired was to be as close as possible to him every moment she could. She didn't want to care about how much pain she was in, all she wanted was for him to pull her into him and never let her go. When the healer fixed her up and left, he better be ready for her.

Angaelus set the phone down, a frown running along his features. Stepping through the small home he placed his hand on the sleeping form on his couch. Jeremy almost went through the roof. Somewhere between ‘I totally know what I’m doing’ ‘we only just met but she is the one’ ‘we got a place together’ and ‘oh god, please let me stay with you until I sort something else out’ Jeremy had moved in. Somehow the younger man thought that sleeping on the couch implied that his presence was not going to be a permanent thing. But Kitten loved him too much to let him move out. There were times the paramedic wondered who had adopted who in their relationship. As things stood the girl had already adopted 2 paramedics, a stray cat and asked about Kyoki all the time.

“I need to step out, will you keep an eye on everything here for me?” There was no other way to ask. He had never needed to step out in the middle of the night before. Since Kitten had come into his life he only worked day shifts. Even through his obvious state of sleep Jeremy nodded letting his face fall back into the pillow. He may have been chronically irresponsible with his own life, but never with Kitten’s.

The business district was a long way away from the suburbs behind the university. But the black jeep wove its way through the back streets to avoid the more congested night time locations. A trick Jeremy had managed to teach him. Naturally the younger man knew where every night spot was in the city.

Parking was not so much of an issue as the plain clothed paramedic bounced out of the car over the side of the door rather than opening it. The sleeves on his white cotton shirt were rolled up, the top three buttons undone. He was as casual as a man of his presence could be. His dark hair was mostly pushed back with only a few rebellious strands which continued to hand in his face. The night concierge at the desk looked up, but saw he needed no directions and quickly returned to the baseball reruns he was watching on the screen.

Living in a penthouse suite was a lot like sitting at a red light. There was nothing at all he could do once he punching the number into the panel and the doors closed but wait until they opened again. How that was desirable was beyond him... although, Angaelus had something of a unique perspective on heights. Stepping from the lift there was really only two options, and he knew he was after the second room. It was politeness which made him knock before turning the unlocked handle, his eyes taking a moment to adjust to the complete lack of lighting in the room. Only the single fireplace splashed what would have been considered mood lighting into the spacious apartment.

Closing the door behind him his eyes fell on Wraith instantly, the look he settled the shadow with was steel. The frown etched into his otherwise handsome features was not the look of a friend. But he had not come here for the shade, no... he had come for the woman on the couch beside him. The creature's mistress?

Wraith did not move from Scarlett's side until he absolutely had to, rising from the couch and stepping towards Angaelus. Which is when the other man's words hit him. "If you want me to help her, you need to leave."

Maybe she had been lost in the moment, but the time seemed to fly by. It was no longer then her arm wrapped around Wraith's neck did she hear the door open behind her. Had she really forgot to lock the door? It didn't matter, because thankfully it was the person that Wraith had called. It was written all over his face, even if it wasn't necessarily a friendly expression.

Scarlett watched as Wraith got off the couch, her hand slowly letting go of its grasp on his shirt. Her body turned as he walked towards the man that had entered her home. These two didn't send off friendly vibes, but it wasn't like they were together to catch up. He had went out of his way to come see her and help heal her wounds. She was in so much pain, but she would have dealt with it if it meant just being beside the man she loved. Thankfully that wasn't going to be the case.

When her eyes rested upon the man that was here to heal her, she took a deep breath. It wasn't the girl from Dusk, the one that had saved her life after the incident caused by the Empress. No, she had definitely never seen this guy before. Scarlett had a thing for remembering faces, especially important ones. The guy was good looking, but it was something that Scarlett overlooked as she watched the two of them look at each other with hateful eyes. What had happened between the two of them that could cause so much hatred? There must have been some kind of good connection between the two of them, if Wraith could remember his number off the top of his head.

"If you want me to help her, you need to leave."

Scarlett almost jumped off the couch in anger. If there was one thing in this world that she would not stand, it was someone giving Wraith orders. "Don't you dare-- mmn--ack!" Scarlett had moved to get up but had moved her shoulder just a little too much and caused pain to shoot down her body. She hissed and cursed under her breath. Her legs moved off the edge of the couch as she forced herself to stand.

"H-He stays..." The only way she would allow for Wraith to leave is by his own will. No one would ever tell him what to do, it was something that she'd always fight for. Wraith didn't have freewill, not while the Empress was around, but by god Scarlett was not going to sit around and let someone tell him what to do. Never ever.

“Whatever it takes.” Wraith response completely ignored what Scarlett had all but injured herself to say. That did not mean he ignored her. When he returned to her side there was compassion in his shadow eyes. He wanted to take her pain away and apparently the only way he could do that was to leave. Reaching out he cupped his hand to her cheek. “I will not be far.” It was a promise he made her, he needed her to believe him. Never would he abandon her. Turning back to look at Angaelus there was understanding in his eyes. His words were a confession, meant for both of them. “Our species do not get along.”

It was something akin to physical pain when Wraith pulled away from her and turned to leave. His eyes lingering on Angaelus for a moment as he passed the other man. There was nothing, no idle threats. No promise of retaliation if he so much as harmed a hair on Scarlett’s head. The words would have been pointless.

Angaelus waiting until the door had closed behind him before he finally looked to Scarlett. So not his master... the slave could not have defied her like that if he had been. What then? A play thing, a toy to amuse himself with. No... that reaction had not been the work of a creature who was playing. His feet seemed weighted as he stepped across the room towards her. A mixture of hesitation and defeat, but as his grey eyes lifted to consider her, there was none of the hostility she would have detected when he first walked in.

“That is if you wish for my help...” His voice was gentle, caring and compassionate as he held out his hand for her to take. He would never force his abilities upon someone. The dying were the only exception. There was only ever one who had begged him to let them go, and he had been powerless to deny them. “My name is Angaelus, and I am a paramedic here in the city.” It was never too late for introductions. Despite the differences he had with Wraith, they did not extend to her.

He could have been blind and still seen the pain she was in. Pain, yes... but not in danger of dying. The view from the inside may have been different though.

If it is on his own freewill, Scarlett wouldn't argue for Wraith to stay. It wasn't like Scarlett was afraid of the paramedic, that she needed Wraith to stay. She just wanted him to. However, she understood that there were certain things that she couldn't control. There was obviously hatred between the two of them, and she wasn't going to play therapist to try and have them kiss and make up. It was, one, none of her business and two, she didn't care enough to say anything. "Alright." Giving him a soft nod when he caressed her cheek, she released him.

It was only when the door closed that Scarlett made eye contact with the man that was there to help her. How different the two of them were; Wraith and Angaelus. This guy seemed to glow with positive regard for human life, almost as if it were a holy light he expunged. Whereas Wraith was the essence of just the opposite, darkness and death. What was funny though, Scarlett wouldn't have thought twice about Wraith if he had been standing beside Angaelus the day they met. If she had bumped into them both, and they had equally destroyed her phone. Wraith would have still been the one she addressed. Was it the bad boy in him she was drawn to? It was doubtful.

When he extended his hand to her, the red head hesitated. She trusted Wraith with her life, and so there was no need to put a guard up now. So she put her left hand into his and nodded her head. "I want your help." Wish was a foolish word. Wishing for something never granted the results. It was the same thing as luck; Scarlett didn't believe in either of the.

Taking a deep breath she directed him towards the kitchen, where four bar stools stood side by side beside the countertop. She tried to hold back the ever growing pain that crawled down her arm each time she took a step with her right foot. "Scarlett Rose, it's a pleasure Angaelus." There was no sarcasm in her words, but there wasn't any pleasantry behind them either. There obviously was a reason that Wraith didn't like him, whether it be a good reason or not, she was and would always be on his side.

That didn't mean she'd necessarily be rude to Angaelus though.

Taking a seat at the barstool she positioned herself so he could get to her wound without her legs impeding his way. "I.. can't take the bandages off myself. It's unfortunately too painful for even me." She confessed, "So you'll need to do it, if you require it." Thankfully Scarlett didn't have much clothes on in the first place, the only thing that would be in the way was the strap that barely held on by very little thread. The sword had taken the life of both her sports bra and the tank top she wore too.

He had not needed for her to move. Scarlett could have stood in the middle of her living room if she had wanted. But a stool in her kitchen worked just as well. It would have offered her some support. He could already see that she was accustomed to ordering people around, not in the sense that she was superior. But that she had little or no regard for other people. It was not in his nature to judge people, only to accept what they were. Just as he accepted the shade for what he was.

If Wraith had been desperate enough to call him... that in itself spoke volumes.

That touch had told him everything, every wound she had ever received. Her body was a casualty of the life she led. Bullet wounds, cuts, and stabbings... right down to any broken bones she had suffered. It was not sympathy in his eyes as he watched her sit. It was empathy. Through the connection he could, in every sense of the phrase, feel her pain.

Stepping in front of where she sat there was little to no distance between them. But everything about Angaelus made him appear more like a saint than a medical practitioner. From that distance and with the top buttons of his shirt undone, Scarlett could have seen the necklace which was looped through a small gold ring around his neck.

“There would be xrays on file because of the work you’ve had done on your shoulder. If you return to the hospital to have the plate removed, I only ask that you do not give them my name.” His request seemed straight forward. Anonymity was not a new concept or a hard one to grasp. However he did not wait for her to respond, his name was hers to do with as she pleased now. He would not have come all this way if he had not intend on helping her. “But I have no need to remove the bandages.” His smile, that gentle angelic smile was reassuring. Even the pain she was feeling would have slowly drained from her until everything which had once ached was numb.

That was one small blessing, he could repair the damage to her nerves. “Stay with me...” The warmth of his voice encouraged, his gaze holding her own, refusing to look away from those flame blue eyes. Was it love she held for the shade and he for her? He had never doubted the creature was capable of such. The plate holding her shoulder intact was a blessing and a curse. It was impossible for him to heal the bone completely while it was there but it held the shattered pieces where they needed to be. The skin, sinew, tissue, ligaments, even the veins and capillaries were all secondary to knitting the bone. Without that the fragments could have done more harm than good. To Scarlett, her shoulder would have felt comforted, like it had been submerged in warm water. Even the pressure caused by the weight of her arm would have turned weightless.

That was when the silver golden nimbus would have started. The light was subtle at first, splashing across the room like the fire had been built up, but the flames remained the same. The radiant glow would have started to solidify into feather like strands of pure energy which loosely formed a wing on either side of him. The grey of his eyes shifting into silver. ~ Like Wraith, this man, this being, had never been human.

The light from his wings would have been blinding to look into, it was no wonder that contained in the ambulance people were convinced it was the white light they had all heard was waiting for them. They all believed they were dying, only Jeremy had known the truth ~ or at least suspected it absent Angaelus’ confession either way. There was no pride in the fallen, only the echoes of heaven. Hours could have passed and it would have only felt like seconds.

She had no desire to look at him as he did his magic, however she couldn't help but catch his necklace dangling in front of her face. Scarlett had never been a jewelry kind of person, even her wedding ring rarely stayed on when she was married. It wasn't anything against the ring, heavens no it was beautiful. If it weren't for the fact she had melted it during the assassination attempt on her life, she would still have it. Probably just as he has his ring on his necklace. Scarlett was, unfortunately, allergic to metal. That and fire and any form of metal wasn't really a good match.

Barely hearing a word he said, she gave him a nod. There was no need for her to tell anyone his name, if there were one person that could keep a secret he was touching her right now. Scarlett knew a thing or two about them. Her head tilted off towards the door, as if she were starring right at Wraith. Her lips curled off into a smile, losing her focus from whatever was going on.

Thankfully Angaelus wasn't going to need to need to remove the bandages, that was going to save her a lot of aches and pains. His voice became like a soothing piano that kept playing over and over in her head. When she turned from the door and met his gaze, it was as if she couldn't look away. "I'm here..." The words barely recognizable.

Maybe she wasn't there, because beyond his gaze she could see what looked like white flames that were forming into feathers. She must have lost her mind. The feeling in her shoulder was like a god send. Like it was being held up by someone and caressed by an angel. Scarlett didn't know what exactly was going on, but had she been touched by an angel (hah)? It was the only thing that made sense, right? What else sprouted wings and healed by just touching someone? She was not a religious person, but maybe after today she'd need to see into going to church on a regular bases.

It was sooner rather than later that the light seemed to get brighter, causing her to finally blink. Maybe she was seeing the light? Was she dying? There were so many questions that were left unanswered it made her head hurt. However it would be the only thing she'd feel pain in right now. Her arm felt anew, at least from its still position. This man, this angel, had taken the pain away in a matter of seconds.

A being of the light; A being of the dark. It made sense.

There was only one explanation as to why Scarlett's eyes closed and her body slumped over. She felt light headed, that's all it was. The pain in her arm, shoulder and body had completely disappeared. Scarlett's migraine and bouncing lights would soon go away, hopefully. In the mean time, she just slouched against the angel man. However, he'd hear her speak softly.

"I love that man out there..."
She was obviously talking about Wraith, "and I'll defend him forever." Maybe it was her way of apologizing for being so rude earlier. Scarlett didn't understand fully why they hated one another, but she could get a relatively good idea why.

Angaelus did not shrink away from her, he supported her slumped form with ease. While he did not have Wraith’s inexhaustible strength, he was a far cry from human frailty. “Your body will give out on you if you keep pushing yourself.” His words were kind, gentle. He did not presume to tell her what to do, only of the consequences which awaited her. “For all your strength, you are human.” Only an angel could say that and not make it sound like a failing. Being human would never be a fault, not to him. It was what he loved most about this world. Their passion, their love, art, culture... their boundless ability for faith in things they did not understand.

So much life crammed into such a short span of time.

There was something comforting which came with being so close to Angaelus. She had never met him before tonight, but that would have seemed completely irrelevant. The sense of being protected and unconditionally loved. He had only ever let Kitten feel that before, but it was not longed his to hold back. A little more of his abilities bled through the more and more he used his gifts. When he had first arrived in Niwa, he could control the manifestation of his wings. Now, it was beyond his control. Hiding what he was had become a way of life.

His focus moved on from the bone, the fragments were knitted together enough to continue with the process in their own time. The soft tissue was easier to rebuild, if she gave him the time he could have restored most of the damage. Only the bones would have needed weeks to fully heal. She would be weak for that time and in danger of undoing everything he had been able to repair if she overextended herself.

“I have never seen him like this.” Angaelus spoke softly, his silver eyes lifting towards the door Wraith had departed through. Slumped against his chest Scarlett could have felt the words as much as heard them. “For a creature who knows nothing of fear, he is terrified.” His best guess was that fear was for the woman against his chest. If not his master, then what power did she hold over the shade?

"Unfortunately my body isn't as strong as my spirit..." She joked. If her body were, there would be no limit to what she would do. Scarlett wouldn't risk the lives of those that were to stand by her side during the fight against the Empress. If only her body weren't human, squishy and fleshy, ready to be taken by something as simple as a sword through the shoulder blade. Why was the mortal body so weak and frail? Even if it wasn't necessarily THAT simple to kill someone, now-a-days, it was getting much easier. Oh what a curse...

Sure, Angaelus felt like laying in a pillow full of pillows with an angelic blanket wrapped around her. It was so comforting, yes, but it wasn't like being held by someone you love. Yeah Wraith was cold and lifeless, but in her arms he felt alive. He was a perfect compliment to her warmth, because as nice as resting against Angaelus was, he would make her feel extremely uncomfortable after a while. Wraith was just...

Perfect.

When he spoke to her again, Scarlett barely gave off a mumble and leaned back very slowly. The pain had all but subsided, but there was just some discomfort in her shoulder. It was probably all due to the plate. Her head lifted to look at him, her sapphire eyes had calmed down from earlier when they seemed to be on fire. "I'm not sure that is a good thing..." She said, shifting her eyes away and looking off towards the door.

Scarlett didn't want Wraith to have to worry about her. In the pit of her stomach she felt that if he worried about her constantly, he may become tired of doing so and -- she'd would rather not think of that. There was always going to be that fact that she was human, and he wasn't. She could be killed by a bullet, but he couldn't. He would live for eternity, but she couldn't. Even if that didn't matter to her, which it didn't, there was no way to know for sure what the future held for the two of them.

The last thing she wanted was to lose Wraith over something as stupid as him worrying too much and him getting tired of it... tired of her.

"I'll just need to be more careful."
She wanted to be in his arms right now, more then anything that's what she desired. Scarlett wouldn't rush Angaelus, because she knew that it was a process even she'd never be able to understand. But that didn't mean she didn't want time to fast forward to it being done.

Instinct told him that she was not going to be more careful. But he did not dictate the lives of others. When he was done, once he had shaved weeks off the healing process Angaelus steadied Scarlett before stepping away from her. The radiant light from his wings which had bathed her living room faded, with it the feeling of calm and protection. Angaelus did not linger, he did not wait for thanks or offer any advice on how to care for her shoulder. Scarlett had all the time in the world to speak to him, but she had nothing to say, nothing to ask. It was unusual he used his abilities so openly. Beyond Jeremy only three people in the City knew or suspected what he was... well, four now. He was not like the good doctor down in the West Jinsei communities. The paramedic did not make a habit of house calls. Or any other kind of calls for that matter.

It had been a favour, a debt repaid and that was the end of it.

More than anything it was hard to be so detached. Sometimes it was easier than feeling. Angaelus may not have been lingering, but Wraith was. As the paramedic stepped from the building the shadow peeled away from the darkened corner.

What could he have said? Thank you did not seem appropriate given the circumstances. Making himself known was all the shade could really do. The silent acknowledgement passed between them and Wraith sunk back into the shadows from where he came. The elevator was something he took when he was beside Scarlett. Beyond that he did not openly advertise his comings and goings. Plus it was faster to scale the dark places along the wall of her building and slip beyond the glass.

Below him in the street the black jeep pulled away from the kerb. Moving into the flow of traffic and was lost within the sea of lights. Niwa never slept, even at 4am in the morning the city was alive. A constant waking beast that pulsated with life.
