Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Wade was getting himself ready. There was a new member of the Hotel Tachibana and Wade was going to meet him. It was making Wade a bit nervous to have him around though, a feeling of dread behind this meeting. From what he was told; he was a medical student and the rest wasn`t really important. Wade had dropped out of medical school, but calls himself Doctor, and so does every one of his patients for that matter. To have an actual medical student do what he failed… was hurting his pride. He shook his head. No time for that…

Wade was setting up a medical table with a bunch of drugs on them. This medical student, Wade was told, was interested in the special meta-drugs that are specialized for Niwa. He had to use several contacts to get some free samples. They were all marked: looking glass, red eyes, Silver Bear, PEX, Soma and Love. Wade checked his watch. The lad was probably going to show up soon.

Wade was set up in his abandoned bakery in West Jinsei; the so-called neutral zone in the ghetto that was heavily guarded by Hotel Tachibana; although they remained unseen. His entire block was a neutral zone. None of the gangs, or anybody was allowed to start anything. No deaths, no injuries were to be administered, this was a place of healing and nothing else.

In order to access his office, one had to go to the side of the bakery into a well light alleyway, and knock on the metal door that led to his office.

It was at the far side of Jinsei that H. J. was told to meet with a man who he was told would be willing to help him find the drugs that he had been looking for. He had heard a lot about how Niwa had given way to an underground war between rival gangs, but up until a few weeks ago, he had felt no sign, or seen a trace of it until he started digging. Just a few feet below the ordinary city was the shady side of town, like opposite sides of the same coin, but instead of bustling street corners and easy-going days, it was all work, warfare and suffering.

For all but a second H. J. had contemplated what getting into this business meant in the long run, the guns, powers and drugs were more than enough to entice the weak-minded, but H. J. was not one of them, he had come to to study abroad in one of the greatest cities in the world, not trifle with the ideas of territory and conquest; but for some reason, it had intrigued him, for no other reason but the desire to learn more about the powers he had within him.

He had approached the bakery from the street and took a quick glance around to ensure that he had not been seen and turned a corner into the alleyway, just as he was told. Aside from the few garbage cans at the far back of the alley, it looked completely normal and usual. He knocked on the door and noted that it was metal, the variety not typically used on what by all means was considered a bakery, it was out of place, and naturally, it made it clear he was entering into a whole other life beside his.

"Umm? anyone there? Im here to meet a friend"

H. J. noticed that the door was unlocked, turning the handle, he opened the door for a minute before letting himself inside

Wade turned around as his guest made his way inside. He turned to greet him, when he noticed…. Short, spectacles, weak looking… He looked like Wade! Although Wade was 5’2 and was wearing his doctor`s uniform, and his glasses weren`t for his eye sight but for the costume. Wade had perfect 20/20 vision thanks to his hands.

Wade had black hair, black square spectacles, a fuzzy unshaven face, a dirty doctor`s coat with some crummy running shoes. Wade snapped back.

“Oy! Glad to meet ya buddy, come in, come in, don`t be shy. Let`s just close that door here” Wade said as he urged him inside. He literally just stepped into his office. It looked like a general practitioners’ office in a small clinic. There was the bed with the butcher paper, some cupboards, a sink and a small desk. There was a room divider concealing the rest, but essentially they were just going to be in that small square. Big enough to move freely though. In the middle of that room there was a table with a few products.

“I`m Dr. Wade “Jesus Hands” Ackington. They call me Jesus hands because of this” Wade showed his left and stabbed his hand from below with a scalpel. The scalpel came out of the back of his hand, and immediately after this was done, they began to glow, and Elliot could clearly see the wound close on itself at an amazing speed. “My hands can undo most damage, and heal most diseases, and they can even offset the chemical unbalance set by addiction. So that means… you could easily experience these drugs, with zero chance of getting addicted.” Wade said happily.

" Healing Hands? that's really interesting, but Im not going to try the drugs"

The man in front of him was small and unassuming, even more so than H. J. was, he could trust him to an extent because of his demeanor, but he felt like he was walking dangerously close to the rabbit hole, he had come here in order to better understand the types of drugs that had been going around Niwa, dealing with addicts on a regular basis in the clinic, he had heard that many of them were as stunning as their names implied. Drugs like Morphine that could regenerate tissue and dead cells like the some superhero, or drugs that could enhance peoples reflexes and senses like time was stopped, if their was a way to legalize these types of supplements, medical research could be revolutionized with all but a single research paper.

When H. J. first set himself on this idea, he was only a medical student with only the vaguest idea of what he would do or say in order to make this possible; he could not move mountains and part the seas without a plan to do it. it took him weeks to find a person who would tell him anything, a skeezy man he met in a bar one late night in the backwaters of the city. The man tried to keep himself bottle up tight, by a few drinks and some talking divulged a hefty secret for an easy fine, the drugs in Niwa were made by dozens of people, most of them only kept in contact by one of the major networks in the city, Hotel Tachibana, focusing on their ability to make a quick buck, the man told him his suppliers were in need of more street dealers, and that H. J. was welcome to drop in with an appointment.

" In fact, I kind of became mixed into the nonsense because I discovered something about myself recently"

Opening his backpack, he slumped a single glass bottle of water out of the top and slid it into his hand. The bottle itself was nothing special, it was the type that normally held tea or coffee in a large cylindrical vial. Popping open the top, he set the bottle on the table. With a wave of his hand, he scooped the entirety of the bottle into the air, letting the contents levitate in the air for a moment before replacing it and shutting the cap.

" Since youre the same as I am, what do you know about these abilities, and what would the drugs do to them if I tried it?"

« Not try the drugs? » Wade asked kind of surprised. He re-adjusted his glasses against the rim of his nose as he moved over each and every drug. He couldn`t really blame him, even if Jesus hands was around. Wade hadn`t tried any of the drugs before, but he did see their effects. Sometimes addicts stop by to get cured, even if it is frowned upon by the other gangs. Wade still does it, because anyways… Even without the need of it, they still end up relapsing because Wade can just “cure” them again.

Wade looked in awe as he saw him manipulate the water. It was kind of shocking, but it was also pretty neat. “That`s pretty neat. Can you do that with any liquid? Blood? Alcohol? Or just water?” Wade asked out loud. His attempt at making small talk failed as Elliot jumped straight for business.

“Alright then” Wade said as he rubbed his hands. He figured he`d go by them, one by one. He picked up a small vial with a sterile needle. He held it in his palm and showed it to him.

“Say hello to “Looking Glass” It has other names in the streets. Rabbit hole, Wonderland, Alice the CURE, but essentially what this thing does…”
Wade said as he handed the vial to Elliot. The liquid inside was viscous and glew a shade of blue. He turned his back to him as he spoke.

“It`ll suppress your powers. Inject it in yourself and you won`t be able to control water again. It makes any meta-human normal. It`s not something for you or I. My powers are what I use to make a living, and your powers don`t define who you are, but some meta-humans would absolutely kill for it. It`s very hard to make, so very rare, and very expensive.”

He turned back to look at Elliot. “Side effects include hallucinations and mental instability. They start to distinguish the normal personality with the powered one, creating massive identity crisis” Wade said simply. “What do you think?” He asked.

" You know, Ive never really tried to control other liquids; water is just so prevalent that I've never wanted to run the risk, it's part of the reason I carry about ten or twelve bottles of it with me at all times"

Shaking his backpack, the characteristic clink of several glass bottles rumbling together in the bag showed it to be true. He had learned early on in his search through Niwa that he should not travel alone with ammo, otherwise he would have ended up in a gutter with all his belongings stolen a month ago. Noticing the looks of bewilderment on Wade's face, H. J. quickly came up with a plausible enough sounding lie so as not to divulge the specifics of why he had joined Hotel Tachibana.

Taking the vial of Looking Glass from Wade, he peered into it for second, he felt as if the key to his future was head suspended in his hands. Turning to Wade, he handed it back to him. He let Wade continue, feigning interest in buying the drugs, without fully divulging what he would buy them for.

"This is rather interesting, I think I might know a friend who would try it"

Placing the bottle he left on the table back into the bag, he looked at it for a moment, as if to understand it better by leering at it.

"And it's not that I hate my ability, I just prefer not to flaunt something I can't fully control yet, and what about this one?

“Well… Looking Glass is really reserved for Meta-humans and I figured, but ah well@ Wade shrugged as he went over to the next item on the table, which was a small vial. Wade showed it to Elliot. “This vial contains the product knows as Red Eye… or bloody eye, and it also as other horrible eye names.”

Wade carefully undid the top, and he put in a small spray mechanism. The liquid inside was dark red, and it looked more like a small perfume vial then a drug vial.

“You spray it directly in the eye, and it greatly enhances your vision. Your eyes are able to take in information more efficiently, so things seem to go in slow-motion. It`s like looking through a slow motion camera for a couple of hours” He handed the vial to Elliot.

“It`s one of the most expensive drugs. Looking Glass is easier to make then this one, and it`s also very damaging. If you take enough of it for a long time, you can lose your vision and can even damage your brain.”

Wade then made a spray motion. “You apply directly to your eyes. It stings for a while, but then… the magic happens. You`d even be hard pressed to find any here. A vial like that is easily over 1 grand worth and no gang as actually invested too much in making it. What`s even more dangerous is that there`s a lot of inert red eyes going around, that just… ruin your eyes. It`s hard to get it right.”

Wade sighed. He had to treat a few red eyes addicts. Their eyeballs were… rotting. He even had to do a transplant on one because of how badly it was damaged.

“But that`s the real stuff, I guarantee it” Wade said with a smile.

"I remember this one, I could never forget it..."

Early in his time at medical school, he worked part time at the hospital in order to get experience in dealing with the day to day activities that the doctors went through in a hospital. On that night he had several patients arrive via emergency vehicle, stabilized but in a precarious situation. They had all been addicts that had recently tried Red Eye, or at least, what H. J. assumed was the faulty version of the drug and had been sent to the hospital. They had not only overdosed on the drug itself, destroying their vision and sense of perception, but at the same time, caused their eyes to deteriorate at an accelerated rate. H. J. would never forget the faces of the men as they struggled to stop the searing pain as the tissue in the eyeballs had begun to die while they felt every destroyed cell.

It was at that point H. J. realized that the drugs in Niwa, as simple and easy-going as they sounded, still bore insane side effects as well as a chance at addiction. Hoping to never have to use the drugs, H. J. planned on using the money he made off work, as well as the notoriety he made off the research, to fund his own war on drugs, hopefully to get them off the streets for good.

Their was however, something that H. J. was more interested in, peeking his thirst for knowledge and the desire to control his own powers, he looked to Wade with a greater curiosity than he had arrived with.

"Your ability, do you think I could learn to do something similar with my water?"

Wade titled his head in confusion at his question. He had a hard time understanding the meaning behind his words. What did he mean by that he could do something similar with water? He cleared his throat, and regained his composer as he pushed the glasses against the rim of his nose. “I don`t understand” He said plainly.

“Your power is to control water, yet you wish to have your powers heal wounds? There`s no correlation between the two.” He said with a shrug.

“It`s not unheard of a meta`s abilities evolving further, getting stronger or having an additional effect; but to ask me that… It`s improbable, very improbable.” Wade said with a nod. Meta abilities were too erratic to give a clear cut definition. How are metas made? Why is it that the offspring of a Meta that can control fire and a Meta that can bend shadow make a child that can fly? Too much uncertainty, improbable was the best answer.

Wade shook his head as he picked up the next item on the table. It looked like a gun. It was actually aerosol injector, apply directly to the limb, press the trigger and the medicinal mist will come out and do its magic in the system. A medical student would definitely recognize it, so Wade didn`t bother explaining the mechanism; surely he`d be more interested in the product inside.

“The next item is Silver Bear” He paused as he pulled the trigger unleashing a thin mist. “Apply directly to body; the chemical agent is dangerously violent and fast acting. Think of it as super steroids. It depends on how much you use, it can vary from 30 minutes to 4 hours, and during that brief period of time, you`re super strong, super-fast with enhanced senses and you feel little pain, but it destroys the body. It tears up the muscle tissue, it tears up the joint. It doesn`t make you stronger, as much as it corrupts your nervous system and because of that, you also risk severe brain damage. 3 Doses is enough to guarantee it”

Wade then added with a smile. “….but… Luckily my hands can repair all of the damage done by the drugs, muscles, joint and even the brain damage. So as long as i`m here, it`s really safe to use any of these precious drugs”

"I don't find it improbable, I control water, and every single function of the human body is in some part run by water. It just requires a more subtle control then what i've been doing."

For the most part, he had found over a thousand uses for his ability, considering the almost constant supply of water he has on a daily basis, he found that the simple ability to shape and move water was most likely, the most adaptive ability that he could think of. In the span of two or three months, he had found that his ability was never not useful in a situation.

But in this situation, he was not entirely sure how he would be able to channel the power, it would first require him to be able to control the water in a person's body without them receiving any ill effects; a huge problem considering he can control water better when it's in masses or puddles that he can easily draw from. The other step would be eventually learning how to manage the complicated systems of the body without doing irreparable harm to the recipient.

Despite the hurdles, it was something to work towards, if he could manage to merge his ability to control liquids with his knowledge of medicine and biology, he could could do work better than any surgeon and cure sicknesses better than any physician could.

"I don't plan on getting addicted any time soon; but the Silver Bear sounds close to the one I was inquiring about; Im looking for the one they call the Phoenix, do you have samples of that one?"

Examining the vial of silver bear with an scientific eye, he called out to the water like one would command a child, compelling it to move, ever so slightly, with a single word. The vial had not moved, and the chemical inside remained supine and unmoving.
