| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? Sara was not one to actually come out and complain about work, but the way she fell in her chair behind the bar's counter with a sigh of relief told more than enough. The after-dinner rush had finally let up, a lot of people had cleared out and she couldn't be happier for it. She had more than enough of a nice tip from all of the patrons, her relief shouldn't be misinterpretted. However, serving so many people back-to-back-to-back? Yeah, she needed that little rest, for just a second. Two bins were full of glasses, mugs, and cups, she needed a new counter rag because the one she'd been using was now full of spilled whiskey and gin, and she needed a damn massage. She took a minute or two to get her head on straight, to relax just a bit, before checking the watch on her wrist. There would probably be another handful of customers as the night waned on, it was still early yet. She got up, a little sluggishly, before going back to work: the dish bins were taken to the kitchen for the glasses to be cleaned, and she retrieved a new pair of bins and a clean rag to wipe the counter down with. As she was walking back to her station, a guy with a group of his buddies made the mistake of grabbing her ass. The result? No, no she didn't pummel him into the floor, though she could have - instead, his food turned into quite a nice little nest of cockroaches and worms. His friends thought he was nuts for screaming at a plate of penne, and soon escorted him out to the car, probably thinking to go get him checked by an emergency room shrink. A smirk rested on the redhead's lips as she saddled back behind her bar, spraying a bit of cleaning polish on the counter and wiping it all down. That act, in itself, also helped relax her quite a bit. Maybe it was the motion she pulled and pushed the rag along the table, or maybe it was the way the light reflected off the surface... Whatever the case, she seemed to cool down and breath a little easier. As the minutes ticked by, she went back to the kitchen and reminded the guy running the dishwasher that she'd need at least half of what she'd brought into the back, back up front so she could serve the next wave of customers when they arrived. It was a Thursday night, it was typical for Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays were split, really, but most people went to clubs and bars on Saturdays over anything. Once in a while, though, they'd throw you off, change up the norm... The redhead glanced around a bit, watching other patrons eat and drink and enjoy the atmosphere and the company. It was a good night, there was only one problem now that the rush had died down and things were quiet... She was bored. |

There was just too much to think about.. and Lien was hungry and though she knew she shouldn't come to a place like this to eat... she didn't really care. She also knew who this place belonged to. The Triads... enemy to the Yakuza.. like her. Well.. like she had been. An image of Him flashed through her mind and she felt another sharp pain in her chest. Dammit. When was that going to go away? it had been weeks.. it wasn't like they had spent a long time together. With a sigh her delicate pale hand reached out, grasping the door and pulled it open without any trouble. Lien's crimson purple eyes flashed around the bar area and she made her way over to it, quietly looking around as her left hand reached up and brushed back some of her black hair before she settled into a chair quietly and then glanced to the young woman who was working. Strange.. such strange bright red hair considering this was Japan but.. then again.. He used to bleach his hair. She could recall the slightly dark roots of when she had run her fingers through his hair. Another sharp pain as she settled at the bar and glanced up and around once again. To most this look around and this small framed young girl probably looked a bit meek.. and lost. Lost was right... but no where near meek. She gently picked up the menu to start looking it over, trying to see what she could keep on her stomach here. Something healthy.. something healthy.. dear Buddha anything healthy? She set it down with a sigh and gave the red head a slight smile. "I don't suppose you could recommend me something healthy? Nothing with too much grease and well cooked?" Her voice was just loud enough for the waitress to hear but without too much command in it. She touched her jacket pocket, double checking that she had her wallet. It was a good thing she had saved up.. she hadn't worked in a while and she had lost her drive to want to work unless it was to go after the ones who had taken Him from her. Which was.. exactly why she was here. Edited by Lien, Oct 27 2012, 08:03 AM.

Her gold eyes flicked over to the newcomer, blinking at her for just a moment. When had she gotten there? Well, no matter, she hardly seemed like she'd be any trouble, that was for sure. Her question caught her a little off-guard, and made her think for a second. Well, she was sure that didn't have too much grease, and it was relatively healthy... "Well, y'could try the Singapore Chile crab with spinach, least I think it comes with spinach..." she thought aloud, moving over and leaning against the counter some, looking over the menu from her side of the counter, not bothering to turn it around. Which was odd, considering there were few pictures and she wasn't exactly great at reading Japanese, or anything other than English, Russian, and Spanish, really. But this girl didn't know that, and the glinting in her eyes in the dim light was hidden by her bangs at the present. Her ability was convenient sometimes, tricking herself into being able to read the chicken-scratch on the menu. "Yep, that's what it is. I mean, if y'don't want that, ya could always request a dish be cooked a different way, that's all. Lucky for you, the chef t'night's a pushover, he won't get huffy with ya' over the way somethin's cooked." She offered a slight grin, before sitting back on her stool a little, looking the girl over again. It was odd, normally most of the people that came in, she'd seen once or twice before, or they were new faces with a large group for a banquet or party or celebration of some sort. Not her. Still, maybe it wasn't her place to question the girl. "Either way, m'name's Sara, and I'll be takin' care of ya t'night." Now hopefully, Lien wouldn't have too much trouble deciphering Sara's Southern American drawl. |

(( I hate to ask but you think you could put your text size normal? My eye sight is a bit bad. )) The young waitress came right over to her and was very honest with her recommendation, even saying that Lien could order something special if she wanted. Strange how helpful the young girl was.. Lien would have to be sure to leave a nice tip. As she leaned over Lien turned the menu, watching her carefully as the waitress looked over the menu and Lien guessed that she could read the Japanese, not knowing that wasn't exactly the case but she couldn't tell. Lien picked up on the American drawl quite easily. She smiled softly and thought a bit about the dish that had been recommended to her before she gave a bit of a nod. "The crab actually sounds really wonderful. I'll take that with half a lemon if you please." she closed the menu and passed it to the young lady with a smile. "Oh and some orange juice to drink if you have it." She brushed some of her own dark hair from her face, glancing around the diner and had to just.. wonder. How many people around here might be Triad? How would she be able to tell who was in and who was not? No.. there was no way to tell immediately and it wasn't like she could just walk up and talk to them to ask them if they were Triad. This plan of hers was crazy enough as it was.. and the less people knew about her the better. She couldn't let anyone know who she really was.. what blood ran in veins or for sure someone would come after her to end her life just like they had done to Him. Lien's eyes slid back to the young waitress. This was a Triad shop.. so maybe the employees were as well? Lien contemplated this, studying the young woman a bit. A new formulated plan brewed in the young girl's mind as she watched the waitress and only tore her eyes away from the young woman to pull out her phone, checking through it casually like a regular customer and even went through a few checks on some stocks she had invested in. Anything to seem normal. |

(( Sorry! It's no problem~ :3 )) Sara took the menu from Lien as it was passed to her, giving a slight nod to the order. Normally, she didn't take food orders, on average she just tended to drinks at the bar. But, for one reason or another, this girl was strange. She seemed anxious, nervous even... Besides, it was slow just this minute, she could walk an order to the kitchen and be back before any other patrons walked in, she figured. "'Course we have do, I'll be right back." With that, she was gone in a flash of red and the black and white of her uniform, stepping out from her station and heading straight for the kitchen, setting herself to finding a pen to write down the order on, lemon half and all. "I'll be back in t'pick this one up, how long d'y'all have on the crab normally?" She questioned, setting the slip in front of the chef before moving to get a glass for her customer's orange juice. He hollared out a number, but she figured she'd check in on it soon enough. On her way out, she heard one of the waitresses talking with the sous chef, and they both decided Sara would forget to come back for the order, and that the other waitress should probably bring it out. That was a safe bet. The redhead found herself back at her station soon enough, setting Lien's glass of orange juice down in front of her before settling back and absent-mindedly polishing a glass. She tried not to stare at her, she did, but after a short few seconds, Sara found herself incapable of minding her own business any longer. "So what's botherin' ya', sugarcube? Y'seem a lil' stressed. Hell, ya' seem a lil' lost, too, t'be fair, but I guess that can't be helped in a big ol' city like this. Want a drink? S'on me." |

Lien drew a slow breath after the woman left, her hands gently rubbing together to rotate the circulation really as she tried to get herself to relax. How stupid was she coming here? The triads would probably kill her just as fast as the yakuza would. She was so dumb. But she couldn't stop herself from hoping that she might be able to do something about the people who killed her brother. She placed her elbows on the counter and glanced up, pulling back as the young red haired woman came out with her juice. "Thank you very much.." she whispered and took a sip of it but could feel the woman's eyes on her still. Lien glanced up, catching the stare before averting her eyes a bit. The question was... slightly expected and she gave a little bit of a nod. Though.. the nickname "sugarcube" was quite a new one to her.. perhaps a westerner word used more often. She wasn't sure but she figured she might as well try and talk with the barkeep. "I just.. have lost someone close to me. And.. I don't normally drink but.. perhaps a little might help put me at ease. A shot of vodka... if you have it would be wonderful." Lien admitted to herself that drinking wasn't a good idea in her condition.. but she needed something. "You must be a very skilled bartender to pick up on my troubles so quickly.. and the city is what I enjoy.. I suppose it's just some of the people here that I really do not care for. People who... have no respect for hierarchy or.. tradition. The ones who are so quick to kill... without thinking if maybe that person... is loved dearly." Her crimson purple eyes fluttered for a moment, struggling to hold back but she just smirked instead and sighed. "I am sorry.. you don't have to listen to me babble on about nonsense." She tried to give the other young woman a kind smile but it was just too easy to tell that Lien was miserable on the inside, the smile came out a little forced and she reached to her phone to play with it like it was suddenly very interesting. |

"Just a shot? Alright, sugar." Sara nodded, moving from her seat and grabbing a shot glass, then filling it with one of the better brands of vodka. She slid the glass in front of Lien, before leaning against the counter a few inches away, golden eyes locked on the petite girl as she continued to listen. Despite what was said, by the end of it, there was a small, wry, sympathetic smile on her lips. "Ya' ain't babblin', hon, sounds like ya've been through a lot. I'm sure there's more, but I ain't gonna' pry." And she wasn't, no more than she already had, not unless Lien offered. Still, that was something she hated about this city - so many people were lost all the time, and it didn't matter who or when or why. They were killed or taken and half the time, she wasn't sure if even the cops had an idea of where these folks ended up. "Livin' here, seems like everyone loses somethin' or someone. Hell, I came 'cause my brother said t'meet me here, told me to come 'cause it was safe when I got into some shit in the States. I ain't seen him since, an' with a name like Light Show, ya'd think he'd be easy ta' find." She laughed slightly, though it wasn't a happy sound. Still, she flashed the other girl a grin. "Take it easy though, or try ta'. Karma's gotta' way 'a fixin' this kinda thing, or at least givin' whoever screwed ya' over what's comin' to 'em. There ain't no use carryin' the weight on yer back, 'specially since it seems heavier than you do yerself," she teased, though it was of an innocent sort. "Besides, there ain't much t'do about it now, is there? Sure, if ya know who did it, ya could get revenge on 'em, but... Then ye'r runnin' into bad karma yerself, an' even if ya don't believe in that sorta' thing, somethin'll catch up sooner or later." She paused for a moment, looking past Lien as a waitress tripped over a child's stroller and broke a glass. That wouldn't end well if one of the Triad's leaders saw it, that was for sure, but luckily Sara didn't believe any of them were there. "Either way, sounds like ya' definitely need that shot." |

Lien's crimson purple eyes looked at the shot glass as it sat in front of her, spacing out for a moment till the glass shattered, making her jump and turn. She was jumpy... but for a reason. She was getting into some quick sand.. a few people in this City knew exactly who she was.. and who she was the daughter of. She couldn't help but think the Yakuza would come retrieve her... by force if necessary. And force would be necessary. She wasn't going to let them tame her.. and she wasn't going to die without fight that would at least cost other lives even if she died before they did. There was no cure for her toxic blood. Her eyes slid back to the waitress, drawing a deep breath before lifting the glass and gazed at it before looking at the woman. This was it.. she was going to have to make a leap of faith if she expected to survive this damn city. "There's already so much red in my ledger.. but now there are just more names to add to it. The Yakuza have a lot to pay for and I won't go down till they have been crossed from my book." She downed the shot, wincing slightly as she placed the shot back down. She knew this was a dangerous play... it was well known this was a Triad territory and the young girl was going to find a way to make herself safe even if it meant jumping head first into the Triad. If this waitress knew someone in the gang.. Lien could eventually make her way up to a boss.. and if the boss knew who she was.. they'd want her. They would want her for her skills, knowledge, and blood. Not just the toxin.. but her DNA. |

Sara noted the jumpiness in the girl, she was really on edge. Granted, as Lien spoke again, she could imagine just why. While Sara didn't know too much about the Yakuza just yet, she knew well enough that there was definitely a rivalry going on between the Triads and every other gang and orginization in Niwa. While she wasn't too deep in with the Triads herself, she wasn't stupid. She was almost positive Jin would be happy to take on someone with a vendetta against a rival. "Sounds like ya' got yerself in pretty deep, an' I ain't sure if ya' came ta' th'right place or not, honestly, but if ya've gotta' score t'settle with the Yakuza, it's a safe bet. Just watch what ya' say an' how ya' say it 'round here." She advised softly, pulling the bottle out and pouring her another shot. "That bein' said, I suppose ya' ain't just walked in here outta' coincidence, an' I'm almost willin' ta' bet ye'r lookin' fer some help in it, even. I ain't one'a the folks ya' ought t'be talkin' with 'bout all that, though. Fer the time bein', I just work here. Do my job, take my tips, an' pay the bills. But, I can prolly see what I can do if that's what ye'r lookin' for." Sara glanced toward the kitchen. One of the waitresses had brought out some breadsticks, and sat them down near Lien before going off to hand off another basket to a table a bit further away. "Hell, with any luck ya' might get ta' meet the chairman himself. He shows up every once in'a while, has a drink or two before headin' out. An' Jin seems like an opportunist. If ya've got skills ta' offer 'im, he'll prolly be more interested, fer sure. What's yer name, besides? If he don't show up t'night, I'll see if I can't talk 'im inta' meetin' ya' ta' hash somethin' out." |

She shook her head and put her hand over the shot glass. "No.. thank you but one is quite enough for me... I am... pretty susceptible to alcohol and other... things that are poison to the body." Lien couldn't help but smirk at her own words.. mostly because she was a poison. She gave a nod to the other young woman, watching as the waitress as she brought the bread and left. She turned her head towards the waitress and held out her hand. "I am Lien Braska, and I do indeed have skills that would be most beneficial to your organization." Lien was smiling but she suddenly felt the drink hit her stomach. It was heat, and then a strange nausea. After shaking the young woman's hand she broke off a piece of bread and popped it into her mouth, quietly chewing and thinking about how oddly the alcohol felt in her stomach. A sort of.. sickly feeling in the back of her mind bothered her but she pushed it to the side for now. She had business and health could be tended to after this one. |
