Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

KingCannon
NPC Type: Limited Ceberus
Name: Haruo "Haru" Mochizuki
Gang Affiliation: Cerberus

Age: 25
Birth Date: October 23rd
Occupation: Former Med Student/Blood Magus/Cerberus Medic

Physique: Haru is skinny and a little frail looking. Despite that he has handsome features and a friendly face. He has long hair that he likes to keep in a ponytail, and startlingly blue eyes.
Dr. Handsome

Personality: Haru is a bit of an enigma. He's a friendly person with a warm personality and strong convictions. However he's also a bit of a pushover. It's easy to push him around and get him to see your point of view. This presents a somewhat unique issue when Haru's own beliefs clash with what others want. Outwardly he'll be sunshine and happiness, ready to come around to someone else's way of thinking. He won't resent the person, but he will actively, and quietly do what he believes is best, even if it's harmful to someone else.

He has zero tolerance for criminals and this seems to override his natural instinct to heal others. This conflict in his beliefs is what led him to drop out of school and join up with Cerberus. The other members of the organization appreciate his help and are generally fond of him, but they can all sense something dark just beneath the surface.

Personal History: Haruo was born to a family of Magi living in Niwa. The Magi, much like Witches and Sorcerers are powerful magic users. Magi are known to be particularly talented in certain types of magic, and wielding said magic through a particular medium. The medium changes from Mage to Mage even within families, and it's almost impossible to predict what medium a Mage will develop and affinity for.

In Haruo's case he discovered himself to be a blood mage, also known as a Hemomancer. "One who draws knowledge from blood." While he was capable of casting spells using words, gestures, and symbols, like other spell casters, they lacked potency unless he included blood as a material component. Blood magi were known for centuries as terrible mages who used the blood of others to perform black magics. While his family was not particularly worried about that, they certainly weren't expecting Haru to turn to medicine.

The young man discovered at an early age that his blood magic synergized well with healing spells. He developed a passion for medicine and decided to pursue less arcane knowledge to improve his understanding of healing. With that in mind he attended Jinsei University to earn his PHD. While he attended school he volunteered at clinics and interned at Jinsei's Hospital. It was during his work at the clinic that a gang member was brought in with a gunshot wound.

Haru had been testing his blood magic on patients, often producing miraculous recoveries. He thought to do so in this situation as well when he found himself momentarily alone with the patient. However, until now Haru had avoided the criminal element of Niwa, hard as that had been. He'd seen how it had affected those around him, friends, classmates, family; and it disgusted him. What he did wasn't a conscious decision, he started using his magic with the intention to heal. But before he realized what he had done he had cause the blood stop flowing around the man's heart. He fled the room before the patient died.

Soon after Haruo dropped out of med school, afraid of what he'd done and himself. Deep down though, he understood. Subconsciously he'd wanted to see the man die. He knew that he couldn't swear to do no harm as long as criminals existed and doctors healed them. So he sought out a place where he could pursue his passion without having to worry about sharing his gift with people he despised. And that was how he found Cerberus.

Gifts/Skills/Abilities/Powers:
+ Hemomancy +
Haru is a blood mage, and his ability to use blood to amplify his magic is prodigious. Haru can cast a number of spells, mostly related to healing, through the use of magical words and rituals. The spells on their own are insignificant, but when powered with the use of blood, his own or someone else's, they become far more powerful and effective. He also posses a small amount of direct control over blood itself. He has to be in fairly close range to exert his will on it, and he cannot do much without using an actual spell.
Coniunctio
This spell allows Haru to form a physical and mental connection with a subject. In it's base form this results in a simple awareness of the subject's being. He knows generally where they are and that they are alive. However, if Haru ingests a small amount of the subject's blood the spell is amplified. He can read their vitals and identify any sickness or complications the person's body might be experiencing. On top of that he forms a telepathic link with the subject, allowing them to communicate by thought. Normally the spell only lasts a few minutes, but with the ingestion of blood it can last up to an hour.

Exsanguis
This spell allows Haru to form an incision and draw out a person's blood. In it's base form he has to be touching the person and can only draw out a small amount of blood. It is comparable to drawing blood with a small needle. However, if Haru first spills his own blood he can draw out someone else's blood at a distance, directing it with his hand. The amount of his own blood Haru spills effects the amount his subject looses, and he can only use it on one person at a time. A small cut will produce similar effects to the basic form, while an openly flowing wound would allow him to draw more for longer periods of time. His own wounds heal at a natural rate, and he must make a new one every time he wants to use the spell. (It would take him approximately seven minutes uninterrupted (7 posts?) to fully drain an adult human body. He must maintain eye contact with the subject and be within 30 feet, with no physical obstructions, for the spell to work. The spell will stop if his concentration is broken. The incision closes as if no damage was done once the spell finishes.

Validus
While his previous two spells are useful for medical treatment, this one is perhaps the key to his healing abilities. Validus is a strong healing spell passed down by various magi over the centuries. The difference between it's base form and the blood enhanced form is not so much the effect as the time it takes to produce that effect. The healing always begins immediately, but in it's base form it can take hours to completely heal someone (depending on the severity of the damage). It requires complete concentration on the caster's part to work. Haru can circumvent much of this by feeding the subject his own blood, accelerating the process. Minor wounds can be healed in minutes, major wounds such as a broken arm mending in around twenty minutes, and potentially fatal wounds healing within an hour. Haru, unfortunately, cannot use this ability on himself.
Signum de Aesculapius
Due to his inability to heal himself Haru procured a magical ritual that placed the symbol of the God of Medicine, Aesculapius, on his body. The mark of Aesculapius covers his heart. The mark is not a spell, and cannot be empowered by his blood magic as far as he is aware. It provides him with minor regenerative abilities and vigor. He rarely gets sick, and when he does it does not last longer than a day. Scrapes and bruises fade near instantly, while cuts and other minor wounds close quickly and fully heal at about twice the rate of a regular person. He can heal from major injuries in a week where it might take a regular person a month or more to recover. The mark however does not protect him from fatal wounds, though it may keep him alive long enough to get proper medical attention.

+ Medical Training +
In addition to his magical abilities Haruo has had extensive medical training. While his powers would have made him an excellent diagnostician, he decided to focus on surgery where he would be able to take a more active roll in the healing process, and simultaneously shore up a weak spot in his abilities. However, despite being a promising student he did not complete his training and his only experience was from working at the clinic and interning at the hospital. Thus he sometimes has to fall back on his magic where other doctors might not.

Additional Information: Haru carries a doctor's bag with him at all times. It's mostly a formality as he can perform more efficient diagnosis with his magic, but he does have a few useful tools on hand when a close attention is required or magic just won't do the trick.

Haru is also somewhat familiar with Latin. He is by no means an expert, but he has been able to combine his knowledge of the language from both his magical training and his medical training to develop a respectable lexicon. He still manages to stumble with the language as his first language is Japanese and has no Romanic roots.

Furthermore, Haruo is not a licensed medical practitioner and while he was a promising medical student he still lacks experience.

About the only time losing is more fun than winning is when you're fighting temptation.
