| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? This sucked. Shinji didn’t like the way this plan was moving at all, with him on the sidelines trying to play this entire thing both from outside and from within. Standing inside the Cerberus HQ with his hands in the pockets of his pants, his eyes darted around the room and back over to the manila folder that he had brought with him this evening, in preparation for what he was about to do as well as what he planned on telling these people he’d selected once they showed up. Shinji could have easily used some of his Faction II members, but he needed something more than just eyes and ears if he wanted this whole thing to be finished as soon as possible. Even without their skill set, it was always better to work with people to get things done rather than do it alone. In this case, there was too much to be done in such a short amount of time. Shinji patiently waited inside the HQ, dressed in his black dress shirt and black slacks, waiting for the people he contacted to arrive. Hopefully, they would be willing… |

Kuei listened to Shinji, as he again began briefing the three of them on the situation. His eyes grew big, for just a brief moment, when he explained about what was going on in the prison. Kuei knew it probably had something to do with the police. He had learned from his time here in the city that if the police were involved in anything, then it was usually quite big. If not, then it probably wasn't worth the time nor the effort. But of course, he could be wrong about that. After all, in this city where various gangs fight for control, there had to always be something big going on. Kuei's thoughts were interrupted, as he resumed listening to Faction II's leader. While it was good that he thought the three of them were capable for a mission of this kind, he had his doubts about his teammates, as he eyed them. The woman in the chair seemed a bit too impulsive and impatient for his tastes. And by the way she was bouncing her knee, he could see that he was partially correct, if not completely. As for the bunny-eared girl, well Kuei didn't know what exactly to make of her yet. But by the way she clung to the other woman so desperately, it seemed that she was too dependent. But, as the saying goes, 'Do not judge a book simply by its cover.' Kuei looked at Shinji, as he finished his explanation. So, it was a simple 'information gathering' mission. Not particularly interesting, but they were necessary, all the same. He then explained that he would need everyone's cooperation. Though it wasn't directed towards him, Kuei knew that Shinji was referring to him, as the two of them locked eyes on each other, for only a full-blown second. He looked as the blond-haired woman joined up, unsurprisingly. If she joined, then it was kind of obvious that the bunny-eared woman would join up as well. Not wanting to be the odd man out, Kuei silently nodded. Whether that meant he was in or not, he would leave for Shinji to decide. |

Sayuri didn't even need to think for a second to know that she was willing to work together with this group. Even if the ninja assassin was a complete stranger to her. She beamed smiles and sparkles at everyone in the room like a giddy schoolgirl. Although given that she was probably the least experienced and showed poor qualities for the job; Our little powerpuff girl would have been better off to assume that they weren't as willing to work with her. "I need to make sure that I would have your full cooperation and discretion on all of these matters going in." "You do!" Sayuri stepped forward in response to Shinji's ultimatum. She wasn't feeling quite in her element just yet, but just the thought of it made her heart pump with excitement. Then, just when everything was looking as though it was going to be set in motion, Hawk made some very grounded points. How ironic that it would be the aeromancer who kept us firmly planted, and the terramancer who had her head up in the clouds. In her little bunny-brain, Sayuri felt that Shinji was still being a little bit vague about the mission. There were many things he had left unsaid, and she could see why that would breed concern for her team leader, Amber. Still, being the optimist that Sayuri was, she hoped that it was because Shinji had been interrupted before he had finished all he had had to say. "I'm still in!" Hummingbird spoke firmly and positively while smiling straight at Hawk. Perhaps as some kind of nonverbal reassurance. Don't be so quick to add 'mindreader' to her list of abilities. That one's just automatically on every woman's skill set. |

"Simply put, I need people on this that are trustworthy. I would elaborate more on that, but right now this issue is a little more pressing." After he had spoken, Shinji took apart the documents within the Manila folder and spread the contents over the table, revealing that there was more than one target to the assignment, and one of those figures was extremely well known within the city. Making sure everything was nicely spread out, Shinji arranged his first three targets underneath the public figure. Stepping aside, Shinji ushered the three teammates up to the table to take a look at their four targets. "The first target, the one on the left, is an American man named Saul Berrenson. He's the Chief of the Medical Department within the penitentiary, with two dozen years of experience as a private physician before coming to Osore Island to help run the prison's medical facility. It's unlikely that he's directly involved with whatever is going on inside the prison, but his appearance coincides with the spike in increased violence and death inside the prison, so it's worth checking into. Even if he's not directly involved, he might know who is, and anything he has might lead us to whoever is causing all of this. "The second target, Miss Atsuko Kasami, is one of the newer guards added to the prison in a recent staff expansion. She has a clean record for her time on Osore Island, but she had a complaint lodged against her back at her old job in the Kurobane Prison system, where she allegedly had a sexual relationship with an inmate who also happened to be a gangster. Again, the possibility of her being the ring leader of this entire operation is unlikely, but we can’t rule out the possibility that she might be a go-between for someone outside the prison system. “The third target, and the most likely to be the ring leader, is Tatsuo Takahashi. He’s the warden of the prison on Osore Island, and his appearance on the island directly coincides with the spikes that I’ve been noticing in the rising rates of violence and death within the prison. His involvement makes the most sense because he has the most pull on the staff within the prison, along with the fact that he happens to be a relatively well known public figure. While I say that he’s more than likely directly responsible for everything happening, it’s definitely worth checking out the other two as well. “The last person, the one I set aside from everybody else, is Soph Dokuro. She is the Chief of Police for Niwa, and she happens to be the contact for Nathan. We’re not investigating her directly, but anything that you pick up from these three that suggests a direct contact with her needs to be sent to me the second you find it. The more we can learn about Chief Dokuro’s intentions about the entire matter, and what her part is in all of this, the better. I don’t trust most cops in this city as far as I can throw them, but we definitely have to keep an eye out for her. “Everybody, take a look at these sheets. Keep these people in mind, because we may or may not have to deal with them directly sooner or later. I wanted to give each of you the heads up on each of our targets before we gather what we can from them. I’ll contact each of you again with more specifics on what we will be doing with the primary three, but right now just take in everything from these files and let them sit in your heads. Kuei and Sayuri, when you two are done you are free to leave. Amber, I need to coordinate a few things with you, so I’ll need you to stick around a little bit longer. “Any other questions?” Shinji waited patiently, wondering who else besides Amber had any other questions about these potential operations. |

She nodded at what he said, leaving the matter at that, and figuring she'd find out soon enough what the intricate little details of this whole ordeal were all about. It took mere seconds for Amber to get up off the chair she had settled in and step over to where Shinji had laid out the contents of the manilla folder. Blue eyes scanned the pictures, putting every face to memory with a name attached, and her memory would only be reinforced by Shinji's explanation of who each person was, what there role was pertaining to the prison on Osore Island, and how likely they were to be involved in what Nathan was diving head-first into. Her mind had started racing again, but then Shinji continued speaking. Just get them in your heads, don't act until told; essentially, that's what he'd said. Think about them, anticipate any rational or potential problems in obtaining information on them... Be ready. She was still listening to Shinji speak as her mind flipped on its recorder switch and she made sure the faces of all four of these people were burned into her mind and filed away in a neat little cabinet that wasn't so neat in her head. She didn't look away until she heard Shinji say her name, and then she blinked, looking up to him some with her head cocked, curious of just what needed to be coordinated. Still, she nodded her understanding, and instead of returning to her seat, she stayed put near the table and made herself relax a little, managing to keep herself in check. After a moment, her eyes drifted to Sayuri and Kuei, watching them for a moment. She was glad for Hummingbird's enthusiasm on the mission, that was for sure. She just hoped the girl didn't run into any trouble along the way - Amber would hate to have to kill someone because they clipped her little bird's wings. Regardless, that concern didn't show through, not right now. She'd pull the girl aside later on, make sure she knew how to use her gun again and probably get her some clothes that wouldn't draw so much attention... After all, if they were going to be gathering information, and didn't want to get caught doing it, a bunny hoodie wasn't the thing to really wear to do it, as adorable as it may be. For now, she waited to see just what would happen next. |

After everyone agreed that they were on the same terms for the mission, Shinji called them all forth to inform them more of their mission. Kuei pushed himself off the wall he was leaning on and walked up to him, his steps even and purposeful. He looked as the Faction II leader pulled out files on each member that they would be investigating and spying on. He looked at each of their pictures, carefully, as Shinji informed them all about each one. Kuei eyed the American man in the photo. A physician, from what it seemed. Highly unlikely that he was involved in killing of the inmates, but as Shinji stated, he may or may not be directly involved. Kuei then eyed the second photo, which was of a young security guard. At first, Kuei found it preposterous that she could be a suspect, but looks could be deceiving, as he already knew. His eyes narrowed a bit at the photo of her as Shinji gave his explanation. Like the physician, it was highly unlikely she was involved, but again, she may or may not have a direct link with what's going on. Kuei's eyes then darted to the third photo, which was of a rough-looking security guard, who Shinji explained, was the warden of the prison. It wouldn't have surprised Kuei that he was involved. Wardens usually have their head knee-deep in all of the going-ons in the prison. If they didn't, then they weren't fit to call themselves, as such. The fourth and last photo, surprisingly, surprised Kuei a bit. The photo was of Soph Dokuro, the Chief of the NCPD. He had seen her around the city before. She always struck him as an honor-bound woman, as far as police officers go. If she was involved in this, then the corruption of the cops in this city was far greater than he had anticipated. He wondered what her fellow police officers would say or think if they knew she had a hand in this predicament. He picked up each person's photo and swiftly read about each one of them, as quickly as could, his brain working like a miniature computer, taking in all the information he could store. Kuei then looked at Shinji as he dismissed everyone, except the blond-haired woman. Not seeing any other reason to stick around, Kuei decided to excuse himself, vanishing in a puff of smoke, as par of his usual ninja tricks. Instead of going far, however, he decided to stick around for a bit, by silently standing on the roof of the building, in case something else, interesting, might happen. |

[Five minutes later] Shinji had waited for the others to depart before he came to face to face with Amber, the one with the most questions about everything required for these missions. Shinji didn't plan on divulging anything in detail to the young woman, because why would he compromise the safety of the group any further than it has been compromised? Looking the young woman over, Shinji certainly noticed and admired the fact that she took good care of herself. Shinji knew exactly how proficient she was with weapons, which meant she would be a valuable asset on this mission, but he still needed to be careful about what he divulged to her. Sliding his hands into his pockets as he made eye contact with Amber, Shinji took no time in getting right to the point. "Miss Hesson, both time and safety are major issues when it comes to these missions. When I say safety, I don't mean just the safety of Nathan inside Osore, but the safety of everybody else involved with Cerberus. As you already know, Soph Dokuro is the woman who helped put Nathan in this situation, and I made it no secret that I don't trust her. Now, I have no tangible proof of this yet, but I'm beginning to suspect that somebody else inside Cerberus is giving her information. Your faction isn't the most privy to information, but unfortunately mine is. So before I can send anybody else from my faction out on a mission like this, I need to make sure that whatever other police-related threat that exists within Cerberus is dealt with promptly. I called you three here because I had already checked out each of you. I apologize for the intrusion, but I had to make sure..." Shinji waited for a response from Amber, eager to hear what she had to say. |

As Shinji spoke and got to the meat of things, two people came immediately to mind: Markus and Evan. Markus was a clear-cut threat if there ever was one, a brutal organ-harvester with no more sense of right or wrong than a newborn child, and she'd let the hulking, vicious male live with her for a short period of time. Still, he had recently gone missing: she hadn't seen him or heard from him since the night that Lucien took out the meth lab, hadn't heard any news reporting more harvests, nothing. Not for a few days now, at least. Maybe that was for the best, though, especially right now, with what was going on inside Cerberus and with what Shinji had just asked her and Hummingbird to take part in. Then there was Evan, the park-dwelling conspiracy theorist. Well, she wouldn't call him that completely, not all of his thoughts were theories, so much as he didn't reveal them to many because some of the things that turned out to be true, simply seemed so out there that his credibility would be jeopardized. He had credibility, right? Either way, he was pretty much her best friend, but she knew how to keep her mouth shut about certain things. Markus was the only police-related threat she could think of at the moment, though, and with him missing... "You're doing your job, Shinji, it's nothing to apologize for. I'd honestly be more surprised if you hadn't done your research, y'know?" She grinned a little, before shrugging. "I am curious to what you've found, though, and what it has to do with this, or why it was so important that you wanted to speak to me privately on it." Her head was cocked to the side just a little, and that curiosity set in. Markus was missing, she was fairly sure Evan wasn't working with the police, and she hadn't seen Lucien since that night, either. Was she forgetting something or someone? Maybe, but she supposed she was about to find out. Maybe it didn't even have to do with her, for all she knew. Maybe he wanted her to keep tabs on someone else, specifically. |

"At this point, what I found might either lead to a major leak within Cerberus or it will lead to absolutely nothing at all. But I intent to use what I found to my advantage, and I also intend to flush out this leak while looking into these individuals. Time will tell what it is, though, so now we'll have to just proceed with the operation and get Nathan out of there as quickly as we can. But..." Shinji hesitated for a moment, his eyes averting from Amber for a brief second before coming right back to her. Shinji couldn't help his more animalistic urges no matter how hard he had tried, but he just couldn't keep his eyes off of the young woman in front of him. Her slender frame, her confident attitude and her ability to question things without going too far had made her stand out to him more so than most of the other members of Cerberus. She was a valuable asset, and Nathan trusted her, so was there any reason for Shinji to hesitate at this moment? "...if this turns out to be a leak, I need to know that you would be willing to help me plug it." |

A major leak? Well, they certainly couldn't have that. Still, for the time being, their priority appeared to be getting Nathan out of his current situation as quickly as possible. Still, standing just barely out of arm's reach in front of him, she couldn't help but notice his hesitation, and beyond that, his eye movements. She wasn't staring at him, but she really didn't need to to pick up on such things, she was fairly alert most of the time. She wouldn't mention it, however, not wanting to stray from the topic at hand, and certainly not wanting to create a scene of any nature should she inadvertantly step over some bound. "Ready, willing, and I'm certain I'm more than able," she confirmed with a confident and assuring nod. "But if I'm understanding you correctly, for the time being, it's nothing more than an educated hunch? If it turns out to be nothing at all, there's no real use preparing to deal with it right now. But if it's more, you can bet that I'll be ready to help you plug it up and seal it off. "Granted, I'm still not a hundred percent on what you're asking me to do here, or what you're looking for. Or, apparently, what you've already found. I know you're being cautious, which is all fine with me, but I think I've made it clear that any mission you present me with, I'll take and do my best at with no hesitation on the matter." |

"At this point, I'm looking for anything and everything that can point us in the direction of getting Nathan out of prison. We'll continue with the intelligence gathering for now, and anything else I need you to do, I'll let you know as far in advance as I could. I'm heading home, though, I need to make sure I can get everything ready for this mission in time. Right now, I just need you to sit tight and keep your phone on, we should be moving out relatively shortly. Okay?" Shinji was glad to have Amber on board with everything. Smiling softly and nodding just a little bit, he gathered up the information he had brought with him and placed it all neatly back into the manila folder he carried around with him. After he had done so, he turned back to Amber and spoke out to her again. "Come, I'll walk out with you. Do you need a ride back home, by any chance?" |
