Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

"Don't slack off! We ain't got all day!" the low hum of KANG's voice rang loud in the ears of Suka and Aeolus. His massive size and stature made him seem like a hulk. His biceps and triceps bulged as he grabbed hold of a big stack of nets. Kang was a strong man, and it was entirely possible that without him, Pai would have to hire a whole new group of people just to replace the amount of labor that Kang put in to the ship. The sweat was what made him proud--happy. He was a hard worker, and it everyone suddenly would stop being on break once this man entered the room. He held an aura of productivity and 100% effort, and it spread like wildfire.

His eyes darted over to the corner where Suka and Aeolus were supposed to be working. He had given them the simple job of moving crates into the ship, as the weather was rumored to be worse much later. So everyone on the ship was scrambling to pack things tight and make sure everything was securely fastened.

"You two tired yet?" Kang laughed, placing the nets beneath the machine while others ran to Kang's side. They quickly went to work into detangling it and assembling it.

It was nice to actually strain her body and do an honest days work for once. Suka really did love her job but this was nice as well. Her arm muscles ached from pushing and picking up the crates and her legs were pounding from walking and running back and forth. Despite her small size she was strong and loved showing that fact off. There was a wide grin on her face as she worked, loving her burning muscles and the way her clothes were clinging to her body from all the water. It made her feel alive!

"Very tired sir! This is awesome! You guys really get to do this all the time?"

"Huh?" A confused Kang replied.

He walked over to the two with a devilish grin adorned over his speckled cheeks--not speckled with pimples, but with dirt. He expected to see the two gangster-wannabes covered in sweat or stricken with sloth. They looked to be the laid back, lazy-ass type that Kang had seen too much of growing up. They were useless thugs who grew up taking whatever they wanted, and picking on the weak. It only served them right that once they found themselves deep into their own world that they were shown their place. Kang knew very well that the Tai Yeung were nowhere near the strength of the other Triads.

To Kang's surprise, though, he was greeted with an earnest smile rather than an annoyed frown. The tiniest one--the Russian "Soo-key" was it?--replied to Kang with spirit. He expected anger, but instead he received happiness. Honesty instead of arrogance. It was... weird.

"Uhh..." Kang looked down at the gray-haired girl. She was nearly half his size. Why was she so happy? Why was she so...

uh oh.

Why was she so cute?

The giant flustered a deep red. Thankfully for him, his yellow rubber suit wrapped around his entire body and the dirt on his face masked his rosy cheeks.

He nervously threw his hand over to the back of his head and cackled uncomfortably. "Y-y-yeah! Hell yeah we do! We have to do this, or else we won't catch any crabs! We've gotta be prepared, you know!"

Sickening. Just sickening. The entire crew on deck took a brief pause from their hard work to let out a collective sigh.

Kang was never any good with the women.

She looked up at him with her big blue eyes, her smile never faltering despite the miserable conditions she was in. His nervous tone of voice and actions went right over her head. No one ever accused her of being the brightest person around and it was times like this that it showed.

"You guys are really lucky! It's good to actually get a workout when I'm working instead of just running my ass off delivering messages and such. Sometimes I don't do anything but sit around!" She let out a loud sigh then pulled a flask out from her jacket and took a long drink. It had been a couple hours since her last drink and the effects were starting to cloud her mind. The small Russian girl let out a satisfied sigh then offered some to the giant of a man. She was nothing if not a gentleman.

Kang nervously laughed again, but he finally managed to simmer down and collect his thoughts. Stay strong, big guy. There was a job to do. There were people that depended on him.

"I know! It's kickass, ain't it? I can't believe the Captain's paying me just to do this stuff. It's great, and he makes sure to take care of---" Suddenly, his face froze and his voice was cut off from his throat

What was he doing? This girl was a thug. A gangster. A low-life. She was one of the pieces of shits that walked in through that front door and gave Kang and his buddies a troublesome time. They were bad people, and Kang reminded himself of that thought. His smile was ripped from his face and replaced with a frown, and his voice filled with hardness.

"Stop wasting your time drinking and load up the rest of the crates!" He barked at her. To further put her in her place, Kang decided to show her how it was done--he made his way to the stacks of crates outside and lifted up several of them in one go. It was twice the load of Suka's, and the man didn't flinch a bit. He walked his way indoors, expecting the little Russian to follow suit with her own stack of crates.

Suka listened to him talk with a patient expression on her face, practically hanging on his every word. It was easy to imagine herself as one of his new crew mates being trained on the job! She let herself get lost in the brief fantasy of working on ship like this with all these men. Not too many pretty ladies around but it was satisfying work that she could easily enjoy!

She gave a small jump when his expression suddenly changed to one of serious business and he yelled at her. She silently cursed herself and put away her flask as she ran after him. Stupid! She was here to make a good impression for Jin and she was ruining it! What would she tell him if she failed to get them on their side? He would be so disappointed in her..he might even throw her over the boat!

Her eyes widened at that thought and she put on her best look of concentration to look like she was taking this seriously. It didn't cross her mind that such an expression was positively adorable on her. As she made her way onto the deck she watched as the giant man easily lifted the crates and made his way back inside. All thoughts about being super serious promptly left her head as she picked up a crate and trotted after him.

"Wow you're really strong! I bet I could sit on top of those crate and you could lift me up no problem! I really wish I was as strong as you are. My brothers always teased me for being a weakling but I think my quickness makes up for it! I always was able to wipe off their smug looks with a quick right hook" She grinned at him as she set down her load and bounced lightly on her feet, punching the air in front of her to make her point.

Kang remained silent and cold throughout Suka's words. He had to set the standard for the rest of the crew, but while his mouth was closed, his ears were wide open. He took in the words of the young woman and tried his best not to grin. She was a fiery one, with such honesty that Kang was surprised that she was a gangster. Had it not been for her tattoos, the giant would've thought that she was just another innocent civilian trying to make it in Niwa.

But then again... she could still be that girl.

After letting the heavy stack of crates plop onto the floor inside, Kang wiped his brow of the sweat that had gathered.

"Say, Sucka?" He didn't really catch her name earlier. "You're a Russian, right? You look it." He wanted to explain his reasoning before it got offensive.

"What're you doing working for the Chinese?"

Kang understood that a strange sense of national pride and ethnocentric ideals were the main reasons as to why young Chinese in Niwa often found their loyalties with the Triads. It made sense then. They were minorities in a country where they were frowned upon, so they sought to fit in with those that were just like them. They looked out for each other and made sure they succeeded. That was the root of all organized crime, Kang believed. But he couldn't see how this girl--or any of the people that came with the Chairman--fit in.

She let her load down on the ground and looked up at the man as she stretched her arms out. It made her smile when he said her name wrong, they hadn't really been properly introduced after all. His question kind of caught her off guard and she just stared at him for a moment, her mouth open. It was a kind of personal thing to ask and a part of her didn't want to reveal the answer. On the other hand, if she didn't it might make him mad or screw up the whole point of the mission. What did it matter if he knew? She gave a nervous laugh and pushed her wet bangs out of her eyes.

"W-well..long story short, I got kicked out of the house when I was about seventeen and ended up getting mixed up in gangs when one of my brothers took me in. He died a short while later and I took off, traveling all over the place. I didn't have a lot of money most of the time and ended up living on the streets a lot. I ended up in China of all places, hungry and begging for food. Not exactly the kind of position a young lady should be in if you catch my drift." Suka laughed softly and leaned against one of the crates as she remembered all that time ago.

"Well this old couple found me there and took me into their home. I have no idea why they felt the need to do that but they did. They took care of me and fed me and let me stay there for almost a whole year. Even after I left their house I stayed in China. I loved everything about it. The people, their culture, even their language though I can't speak it for shit. It was the only place I felt at home since my dad kicked me out. When I had to leave and come here..well of course I sought out the Triads. A little piece of the home I left behind"

"The worst piece of home you could look for." Kang replied. Still, the giant grinned facing away from Suka. It sounded like she had an interesting life. Must've been rough, Kang thought. He had seen many families starving by the docks, spending their days begging for whatever scraps they could find. Kang wasn't one of them, thankfully, but he gave them a little bit of sympathy. It was a dog-eat-dog world out here in Niwa, and Kang knew that just as well as anyone else did.

"But thanks for telling me." His voice was more sincere and calm. It was a quick statement from his heart before he hardened back up and walked towards the outside once again.

He swirled his arm in the air and let out his roaring voice.

"ALRIGHT! WE'RE ALL LOADED! SOUND THE HORN!" and almost immediately, the loud bellow of the ship's horn echoed throughout the ship and out into the dark watery abyss. The men all cheered and suddenly their hardened faces relaxed and a collective sigh of relief filled the airwaves. There were still a few who were scrambling to finish their jobs, but Kang and his boys were all done.

The giant took a look back to find Sucka, and he tried his best not to sound too soft when saying his piece.

"If you wanna be on our good side, then you better make sure that we know you're not a money-hungry bitch. Got it? Now come on. We gotta go inside before the storm eats us up alive."

His finger pointed up, as rain conveniently began to fall even harder from above. The winds were picking up, and it was getting generally harder and harder to see outside. Kang moved towards the other end of the deck, down below to the quarters at a slow pace. He moved slowly so that the young Russian could follow along.

"Why the Triads? Why don't you just live life normally like the rest of us? You don't gotta join a bunch of lowlife losers for a taste of China, you know."

All this bad mouthing of the Triads was starting to get on her nerves. After all, they were her family and she loved them in her own strange way. When her own family had rejected her the only other family she had was the gang. It was wonderful to feel like she belonged somewhere. The only thing that kept her temper in check was the knowledge that they needed this connection badly.

Suka quickly followed the large man back out into the storm. The wind and rain seemed determined to drag her out into the choppy waves but she was having none of that. She stood her ground and squinted into the rain, trying to see the other people on the deck. Kang's booming voice was clear despite the loud storm that threatened to drown him out. The horn that sounded was loud enough to make he jump and she grabbed the large man's arm without really thinking about it.

A bright flush colored her cheeks at the momentary laps in judgment and she quickly let go of his arm and gave him a wide smile to make up for it. "I'll be easy to show you convince you guys then! I'm the opposite of a money hungry bitch. I would do this job for free. Well..maybe not free. I need enough money for booze at least. It's not pretty if I'm not medicated, trust me"

She trailed after him like a good little Russian, trying not to slip in the water that covered everything. The next words out of his mouth just brought all those angry feelings rushing right back to the surface.

"They aren't lowlifes. I've always loes having a big family. I grew up with four older brothers and we were very close. After I got tossed on my ass I craved that kind of feeling again. Gangs just so happened to fill the hole nicely. Don't you consider these guys on the boat a kind of family?"
