Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The odd thing may have been that she hadn't cried. Not once. There were no tear stains on her cheeks, her eyes were glossed over but not red with the usual puffiness that comes with the expected reaction when a tragedy happens. She hadn't said a word all day, not to anyone, and she hadn't been answering her cell phone or her Bangle. She had given one-word responses to the police, simple yes or no answers to some much more complicated questions, but they couldn't blame her, it couldn't be helped.

She'd received the call at school, the director had interrupted her class and called her out. She knew it wasn't good news, not from her powers in the slightest (which was odd... she knew she'd had a bad feeling in the morning when she first woke up, but she simply attributed that to the fact that she hadn't slept well because her grandfather had needed medication throughout the night, and kept forgetting where it was or what it was, so she was frequently up to help him), but simply by his tone, and he wouldn't look her in the eye. Normally, he had no problem with that. He told her to grab her things, and follow him to the administration office. It was odd, as well, that they were the only two in there - not even the secretaries had stuck around to gossip as they normally did. He told her, and dismissed her home, or what was left of it, rather. She left without saying a word - no asking how, no why, no hysterics of any sort. She had just looked shocked for a moment, before silently nodding and leaving the campus. When she arrived at the apartment, only her grandparent's apartment had caught fire, there was no evidence of anything, and there was barely enough left of their bodies to determine if they were dead when the fires started, or if they were alive and burned to death.

If anything, Aislin was somewhat glad for that much - she wanted to be ignorant of someone murdering her caretakers, but she also didn't want to imagine them burning alive and unable to flee or call for help, for the sake of both of them being bedridden for the last three days or so.

And now she was standing on the street corner, staring down at a slip of paper, but not really seeing it. This was the address, but she wasn't sure what she was expecting. This was the only place she figured she could go, though, at least for the time being, at least until she got her head back on straight and had time to think. Time to figure out where she'd go or what she'd do, what there was to even do about it all.

She shifted the backpack on her shoulders uneasily, chewing her lip a bit. All she'd taken out of the apartment today was her books and an extra jacket, it was cold today, especially with the setting sun. Oddly enough, however, she wasn't wearing it - it was still folded in her bag, waiting for its purpose to be fulfilled, but she was too numb to care about it all. The bite of the cold evening breeze didn't hinder her much, if at all, and if it did, she certainly didn't show it. Hell, she didn't show much of anything right now, her face was eerily blank, distant. She didn't even realize she'd started walking toward the house, but suddenly she was there, at the door, and she tore her eyes from the paper long enough to stare at the door. She hesitated, then brought a shaking hand to it, tapped three times. She didn't have the strength right now to make an audible noise - the doorbell met her fingertip the next moment in the day's waning sunlight.

It was times like these that she was glad that red hair of hers fell haphazardly and whipped freely around in the wind - she wouldn't have to look him dead-on, and if she started losing it, started crying, he wouldn't see it.

The numbness was starting to fade away, just a bit, and she felt a pain in her chest.

She should've stayed home today, maybe then her grandparents wouldn't be...

A distraction?

As the sun was beginning to set near the split-level home of one Shinji Ito, he was busy inside compiling everything he could find into one very distinct and readable setting. Blueprints, maps, security badges, everything he could get his hands on needed to be looked over and scrutinized if he wanted to be successful in this mission. He wished that the mission wouldn't even have to take place, but Shinji knew that a win in this situation would be a big win for everyone involved in Cerberus. Sitting on his couch, in front of one single 46" monitor, Shinji typed away and looked through everything that came his way about the correctional facility on Osore. Letting out a single sigh as he analyzed everything on the monitor, he saved everything he had so far before he became distracted from the sound of the doorbell.

Shinji's eyes darted to the door, quickly setting aside the keyboard before looking out the window to see who was there. Shinji couldn't see the young lady's face too clearly, but he was able to see her red hair and able to discern quickly that the woman in question was none other than Aislin. Shinji remembered what had happened with her, and composed himself accordingly before unlocking his front door and opening it for her. He stood before her with a questioned look on his face, his attire consisting of a robe with dark green and black stripes running vertically while he wore a v-neck undershirt and white boxers with hearts on them underneath. It was time to put things into place for her.

"Aislin...come in." Shinji paused before inviting her in, stepping away from the door frame in order to let her step inside. Shinji could feel the cool air blow through, not a feeling he liked in his current attire but one he felt understood a little better than most.

Aislin looked at him blankly from under the mess that were her bangs, though her vision was a little blurry by now. It took a moment for his voice to echo and register in her head, and she silently stepped inside, head down a little. She slipped out of her shoes, leaving them at the door, not wanting to be rude and not knowing if there was dirt or mud or anything on them, but if there was, she didn't want to track it around his house.

She took a few steps inside, and normally, where she would look around and check her surroundings by force of some habitual paranoia, she didn't even seem to take her eyes up from off the floor where she was walking. She did pause, however, to wait for Shinji a moment. It was then that a grim, almost depressing smile crossed her lips, a wry little line slightly curved in an upwards fashion. "So, I guess ye' heard abou' it, right?" She had posed the question rhetorically, she certainly wasn't her normal self, not now, not with this. She wasn't even trying to hide the accent in her voice, but something was definitely missing from it, usually she took on a playful or cheery tone, or at least tried to with Shinji. Not now, though.

She sighed, and it was a shaken sound, a hand moving up to run through her hair, dusting some of it out of her face. Maybe she shouldn't have, because that's where she started to feel a break in her defenses. "Shinji, wha' the 'ell am I supposed ta do? I doona know if they took anythin', or who else was involved, or anythin'... It wasn't electrical, it wasn't them botherin' the stove, they couldn't..." Aislin paused here, a hiccup of a sob coming out of her for a moment, before she pushed it away. She couldn't, however, stop the tears from falling, and it started there.

Aislin moved a bit further away, she hadn't faced Shinji since walking in his home, and she sat down in a nearby chair, wiping her eyes with the ball of her left hand. That only made it worse, and it progressively advanced for a few seconds before she was crying, bawling in her superior's home and not seeming fully capable of stopping it now, she'd had it bottled up since that morning.

Shutting the door behind Aislin as she came inside, Shinji could practically feel her sadness coming off her like melting butter. Well, melting butter may not have been the right metaphor, but it sure seemed that way with the way she sat down and started sobbing. Shinji was already fully aware of what happened, it wasn't something he'd be able to miss even if he wasn't looking for it, but now came the hard part about all of this drama. It was up to him to console her in her moment of need, but Shinji wasn't exactly very good about consoling people through tough times, even back when he was a teenager he wasn't much good at it. Placing his right hand gently on her head as he stood in front of her, Shinji took a moment to let his finger tips gently run through her red hair.

"I heard about it, yes. I...I'm sorry about what happened. If you'd like, you can stay here with me while you get things settled in."

Shinji thought of that before she had even come to the house, before everything had been set like this. Shinji wasn't very comfortable in his bed anyways, so letting her sleep in it while he slept in his usual spot (the couch) wasn't the worst idea for him to come up with. Shinji waited for a moment, waiting to hear what she had to say though her sobs.

She wasn't completely sure what it was about his hand resting on her head and his fingers in her hair, but it was a bit comforting. Still, she'd just lost the only people who had ever seriously stuck their necks out for her, and when they'd needed her the most, she hadn't been there. She barely heard him, absently nodding for a moment at first, before it clicked what he'd just offered.

"Sh...Shinji, are y'sure?" she was shaking a little, visibly, and she'd managed to calm down enough to speak again it seemed, though she was still obviously distraught. Normally, she'd have disagreed, said she'd figure it out sooner or later and she'd be fine in the mean time, but this was a completely different story, something she hadn't ever dealt with before, and it was a major happening. Why hadn't she realized it ahead of time? The feeling she'd had hadn't been anything big, there were no indicators. That wasn't normal for her.

Of one thing, though, she was certain: her grandparents had been murdered, it wasn't a simple accident. Only her apartment had gotten damaged, there were slight holes in the floor and ceiling that went into other rooms, but nothing other than flooring or the ceiling of the room above and below, respectively, were damaged, and certainly no one else had died. She was trying to think and sort her thoughts, but she was giving herself a headache.

After another minute or two, she managed to recompose herself, wiping her eyes again and dusting a little of her hair from her face. Without really thinking about it, she leaned forward a bit, hugging Shinji and burying her face in against his stomach, before shifting a little and resting her cheek against the same spot. "I'm sorry, I'm a mess..." she murmured, sniffling a little to herself.

"It's not a problem, really. The bed down the hallway just needs some sheets on it, but I've got those in a closet."

It really wouldn't be much of a problem for Shinji to let Aislin stay here, but really the more he thought about it, the more it would probably help him in the long run to have her here at his disposal whenever he needed her. That thought may not have been appropriate at the moment, but it was definitely something he took into positive consideration while the young woman sobbed into his stomach, saddened by the loss of her grandparents in a sudden horrific fire. Shinji let out a soft sigh, but stayed quiet as he let the young woman burst with sadness.

She stayed quiet for a few minutes, quietly trying to sort herself out. She couldn't sit moping around his house, that was for sure, and she knew that. Rationally, she knew that. Emotionally, she was still a bit unstable from it all, but she had to cope with it and learn to move on, and quickly. She had to be positive... On the bright side of things, maybe now she could get a job, work a normal job and save up some money, finish school and focus on Cerberus more... It would all certainly keep her busy, that was for sure.

Slowly, after a couple more minutes, she released Shinji's waist and sat upright on her own, hiccupping quietly just once and managing to keep from bursting into tears again as she looked up at him sheepishly from under that mess of firey red hair. She looked like a child that had just lost her teddy bear or puppy, and was twice as pathetic about it, though she had a better reason.

"Thanks... Thank you, Shinji.." she murmured, trying to smile a little, though it faltered a bit for a moment. She needed to distract herself, quickly, and the best thing for that? "Do y'want somethin' ta eat? I ken make dinner," she offered, maybe a bit too eagerly, but she needed something to occupy her, and it wasn't like she had anything to unpack.

"No, it's alright. The bedroom is down at the end of the hall, the door is open so you can just walk right in. I'll get the sheets."

And with that, Shinji pulled away from the young woman and made his way down the hall to a small closet. Opening the door out into the hallway, Shinji let his eyes wander as he looked for the sheets that went with that bed. It had been a while since he'd put the sheets on that bed, which belonged to his father before he moved out, and he only vaguely remembered putting the sheets back into this closet. After looking up, however, Shinji found the sheets and managed to pull them down without much difficulty. Making his way over to the bedroom, leaving the closet door open for now, he waited for his red haired companion to join him.

Aislin watched him, giving a small, silent nod at his words. Still, she sat there for a moment longer, looking around a little at what she hoped would be just a briefly temporary home. She didn't want to be a burden, but hell, where else was she going to go? She wiped her eyes a bit, feeling the dried tears on her cheeks. 'Look at ye, Aislin, ya' look like a damn baby.' The thought stayed in her head, and she shook her head at herself, sighing as she rose to her feet. She shifted the bag on her shoulders lightly, before following down the hall Shinji had travelled down, stepping into the bedroom moments after he did and looking around a bit, not sure why she was surprised. It was a nice room, much more spacious than the one she'd just lost, though less familiar. She slid the bag off her shoulders and set it down near the door, before looking to Shinji.

After a moment's hesitation, she stepped over, carefully taking the sheets from him, before offering a small, somewhat forced smile. "Thanks... I ken make th' bed. Where d'you sleep?" It was more out of curiosity and needing to keep her thoughts running than any want to stalk her boss through his own house, and as she awaited an answer, she moved over to the bed with the sheets, and immediately went to fitting the sheets onto the mattress. It seemed to relax her a bit, distract her... After all, right now that was the only familiar thing she had, her ability to do chores to help clear her head. It was the little things in life, perhaps.

"I sleep in the living room, on the couch. Doesn't really feel comfortable anywhere else."

The first half was true, the second half not so much. There was another bedroom in the house, a smaller one where Shinji used to sleep before everything happened with his father. But now, with the old man gone away and him left alone with nothing much except his new body, Shinji didn't feel comfortable staying in his old room. Too many fond memories he could no longer revisit in fear of being exposed as anything but human. Shinji nodded towards Aislin, soon stepping out of the room to give her a little bit more privacy. As Shinji walked away, he looked over towards the door of his old room, which had been shut and remained that way for quite a while now. It wasn't hard for him to imagine that some dust was gathering in that old room of his.

Shinji continued to the living room, where he sat back down on the couch and gazed at the monitor before him. It was a wonder he was in the situation he was in, but he did partly ask for it.
