WELCOME

Here at Lellinias Weyr the weather is turning cold. Winter is around the corner and there is a threat of snow in the air. The wind whips through the Weyr and the riders and weyrfolk are dressing up warm.

Contemplating dragons of different colors (open)

The day before, he had been Ilorin. Today he was I'rin. He wondered why the girls did not shorten their names.

Tradition, he supposed. Or maybe it had something to do with dragon attitudes towards females?

It had been an odd awakening, coming out of sleep in a cot set by a dragon couch. Eventually, he and Astith would have their own Weyr.

There was nothing wrong with the purple dragon. Anyone who said there was would answer to him...and to the other riders of mutated dragons. He would certainly stick up for anyone who mocked a ruby, or the lavender...

Still, Astith was, nose to tail, a new kind of dragon. There had been two in the clutch. Two purple dragons...would they be the only ones, or would they, from now on, be quite common?

Part of him wanted his dragon to be unique. A more sensible part wanted there to be an entire flight of purples, so he would not be considered strange. So that they would become normal, expected.

His eyes ran over his dragon again. The youngster slept, for now. "What are we going to say to the rest of Pern..."

K'it had woken with the voice of Xvenith in his head, he'd been Kanit yesterday and today he was K'it. He smiled a bit as he looked around, he saw that he wasn't the only one awake I'rin was as well. K'it walked over to talk to the other rider, he was riding one of the new Lavender colored dragons and K'it was on a Red Goldstone.

"What are we going to say? That's easy, we say we are riders. If any one argues then we deal with them. After all they are pretty looking aren't they?" He remarked as he looked at the other rider, he was also hoping that maybe Xveni was unique. He hoped so because then he'd never have to compete with who had the prettier dragon with others.

R'EAN & KOEKYATH

R'ean groaned, hands fastening themselves over his pillow to drag it over his head in an attempt to block out the whine of a now rather familier Blue. He shouldn't have over done it on the wine. His head ached, his throat was dry, and more importantly, there were people talking near by. That and the dragon in his head sounded like a trumpet right now. Reth's rider did tell you not too drink too much, since you'd be waking up early. He hasn't come around yet to wake people up, but I'm hungry! I want to eat something, R'ean! How, by the first egg, did his dragon go from being a sophisticated prat, to an annoying, childish prat when a female arrives and leaves?! It was like a switch! One R'ean was determined to break. Or at least stall at every possible chance. ''o 'way. I'm dyin'.' Koekyath barked a laugh - quietly of course, since he didn't want to wake any of the females - his head resting on the bed his rider slept on, with a little bit of difficulty. He was hungry! And the floor had been cold. You did speak to him about getting sand instead of straw, didn't you? R'ean groaned, pulling his head out from under the pillow to glare at the Blue.

"No, as a mat'er of fact, I din' ask 'im at all," R'ean growled out, head ringing at the words, "An' can' a guy ge' some sleep aroun' 'ere wi'out peo'le yellin'!?" he almost yelled, glaring over at the two new riders of the new colours, eyes stone cold before he groaned and shoved his head back under the pillow, battering his dragon away. R'ean wasn't cruel enough to leave his dragon when he was hungry, he just knew his dragon wasn't hungry anough to be awake. He just wanted to be awake first. R'ean did not appreciate that.

I'rin had no sympathy for R'ean. The weyrlingmaster *had* warned them, after all.

"Yes, we are. I'm thinking we may want to monitor the new colors some, their growth and stuff. For the sake of any future weyrlings. The gold flecked ones are very pretty, although purple is better."

Purple hadn't been his favorite color before, but Astith Purple certainly was now!

"And R'ean, we are speaking in perfectly normal tones. Go get some hangover remedy."

No. No sympathy at all. I'rin had *not* indulged...okay, he had had one small glass, after all, it had been their party. But...well. Maybe purpleriders were smarter than blueriders?

Or maybe I'rin was just boring. Astith's lids popped open in sequence to regard his rider, but the young purple did not yet move. He was only really barely awake.

I'rin turned back to the goldstone rider. "I think yours is going to be a bit bigger than mine. What do you reckon?" He was talking more than he ever had, and he felt even more confident as Astith awakened, pushing his strength into his mind will he, nill he.
