I liked the book but fear the movie will be too much CGI chaos like the trailer and Transformers.

I'm going Thursday night. When the first trailer for this dropped, I had no interest whatsoever. Every new preview got me more and more intrigued. I'm quite looking forward to it, now.

It was honestly one of the most enjoyable theater experiences I've had in a very long time. It felt like a celebration of video game tropes and pop culture, but even if you strip away the recognizable properties that made all of their cameos, it's a very worthwhile movie. I was impressed by the amount of social commentary and allusions to current affairs, including privacy concerns through the internet, the student debt bubble, questionable identities through digital dealings, etc.

My favorite cameos in the movie

1. The original RX-78 Gundam
2. Mechagodzilla
3. The N64 Goldeneye references
4. Ymir, the monster from 20 Million Miles to Earth
5. The Holy Hand Grenade
