Just saw this

I wouldn't necessarily go as far as what Shammy said, but I really don't know what to make of it yet.
Yeah I'm still thinking about it. I don't hate the movie and I don't love it either. I like some of the risks they took, not sure about some of the others.

To me, this felt like the first movie in a trilogy rather than a second. It introduced so many brand new story elements and twists, some great, others not so good. It also didn't answer a lot of the questions that have been building since The Force Awakens.

You know how the stakes were dramatically raised in The Empire Strikes back? How every party had a clear path by the end of The Two Towers, and the the threat coming in The Return of the King was made abundantly clear? The Last Jedi didn't really establish any of that.

It's a great film, but I do understand where some of the fan backlash is coming from.

I'm much more concerned about Episode IX. I think The Last Jedi set it up to answer too many questions and resolve too many loose threads for one single movie to possibly accomplish.

Just got back from a late showing. I enjoyed the movie. I like that it was a big departure from the previous films.

The one thing about this and Force Awakens that I dislike is that they are trying to hard to win a dick measuring contest with the size of the new ships.

Try to one up original Death Star with new one that actually kills stars. One up the Star Destroyers / Executor with ships 50 times larger. New ATAT with new ones that look a bit bigger.

They are not accomplishing anything useful and as a result the ships cross over into narm territory.

I enjoyed it but it's in no way "The best Star Wars since Empire!" like a lot of reviewers are claiming. It feels like the end of a series rather than the middle too.

Also I call shenanigans on Leia.

Didn't really like it. I wouldn't go as far as Shammy, but I thought it was stupid. Not as horrible as Episode 1 though. I liked Kylo Ren and the answer to who Rey's parents were (even though I was hoping for Chewbacca), and I also liked Chewbaccas relationship with the little bird creatures.

Some questions:
Why does the energy weapons rapidly decrease in efficiency over distance in space?

Why does someone need to stay behind and sacrifice her life to steer a spaceship going straight forward in space?

How come the evil and the good spaceships accelerate exactly as fast? They must have been accelerating, right, because you would hardly run out of fuel keeping a constant speed in space.

How do you drop bombs in space?!

I thought there were too many things repeated from the classic movies, and too many things that were just ridiculous or stupid (if Luke came to create a diversion so the others could escape, then WHY DIDN'T HE TELL THEM THAT?!).

Rouge One was so much better, as was the Force Awakens.

She lucked out - she never had to sit through this piece of shit in a theater and now she doesn't have to appear in the next one.

seen it.. tone of this movie is way off.. felt more like a marvel movie with a star wars skin...

it did have several great moments, lots of terrible and dumb moments too tho... where the force awakens played it way too safe and familiar, the last jedi goes to the opposite side of the spectrum and is shocking, unpredictable and takes massive chances

6/10

I like the fact it has stirred Star Wars fanboys so badly. The force awakens was way too safe for me. JJ tried to appease the fans too much. I think Adam Driver played Kylo to a tee. He is the most complex villain i have seen since Heath's Joker. The scene between Rey and Kylo were the best parts of the movie. I also like the fact that Rey's backstory was what it was, setting up the fact that you do not have to be part of the dynasty to be a jedi. Thumbs up for me.

The Last Jedi has way too strong a rating on Rotten Tomatoes for me to buy into the idea that it is as bad as some say it is.

The people who are shitting on this the hardest are the ones who are going to insist that the movie contains elements that do not fit with their personal vision of what the series ought to be.

It does feel a bit like someone asked for a chocolate cake, and when they got a chocolate cake they are pissed off because it contains some walnuts and they hate walnuts. Never mind that the majority of people seemed to either like the walnuts not care if the cake had walnuts or not.

kylo and rey are done really well and easily the best part of the series.. but rey is this super powerful force user with zero training... its real strange to me

the balance of force powers is all over the place... leia floating thru space... snokes ability to mentally connect rey and kylo but has no sensitivity to a lightsaber moving next to him, rey holding her own against snokes guards, kylo and her force use around luke... luke projecting himself across the galaxy and having the ability to hand leia a bracelet... real bizarre

So is the whole point of all these movies just to kill the original heroes.
