anyone watch the netflix specials???

Just finished the california one and it was good. I saw him in 2014 live here in NY and I think the other special uses a lot of the same material

Killin Them Softly is still his best special B-)

Actually, I had pretty high expectations going in, since KTS is so damn good, and these exceeded my expectations. Dude is still funny as fuck and has great "presence". He's just so dman comfortable and relaxed on stage. He's still got that swagger.

Killing them softly was brilliant. Love the baby on the corner selling weed bit. Can't wait to watch his new special.

Supposedly him and Chris Rock were going to do a joint tour

I really dont think either guy needs help. Both are starting up solo tours now so who knows.

Agree with tally though, what makes Chappelle great is his stage presence, he's so relaxed. When I saw him here in NY, the guy smoked like 10 cigarettes though in the span of an hour and half. You can see thats like his one bad vice even as he does his specials.

Not sure if anybody caught his Jimmy Kimmel interview this week. Ddue got 60mil from Netflix for 3 specials and he already had 2 (the ones just released) sitting on the shelf ready to be dusted off. Essentially, he only has to produce an hour of additional matrial to make 60 mil. What a boss.

meh, it's all about interpretation. I caught the video of the interview and saw his response in full. He said he likes both Key and Peele. Earlier in the interview he discussed how he missed doing the show, but it just isn't something he can do anymore. I think his remarks are more about lamenting the fact that he sees others being credited for and garnering success doing something he created and still longs for in some ways. I don't think he feels like they "stole" his act, but rather that comedy central subbed them into the role.

I liked both specials, but was a little underwhelmed. Expectations too high I think. A few killer bits, but there seemed to be a lot of material that I would expect not to make the cut of a special. Of course I'm basing that on all the public stories of Chapelle doing 4+ hour shows and relentless doing sets at small clubs. I figured all of that material from many years boiled down into 1 (or 2) specials would mean wall to wall knockout stuff.

I didn't like his Key and Peele comments. From a political/industry standpoint, there was a 6 year gap between the end of Chapelle's Show and beginning of Key and Peele on Comedy Central. So it's not like the network immediately "replaced" Dave in that sense. As for the format... I think this easily falls into the category of "inspiration" and Dave should be honored by it, not bothered. You can't fault him too much for being honest, but it's of course going to be perceived a lot worse by the public.

Does Dave think he invented sketch comedy or black comedy? No and no. Key and peele had smarter comedy than Dave.

I doubt it. Those were on the shelf for a while. I would imagine mostly new material.

There was a pretty cool video of Dave paying Tribute to Charlie Murphy on stage in Ohio during Jon Mayer concert. Dave live should be awesome.
