Alien: Covenant

I also thought Covenant was shit. I think Prometheus is okay, there is some mystery to it and it's not all action based. I thought the story was good and the atmosphere in the movie was just the right amount of eerie. I also liked the cliffhanger ending.

I was hoping Covenant would expand on the creation story and the Engineers in an at least decent way. I thought it started out good but then as soon as they landed on the planet it quickly turned to shit. It was then just a mediocre and predictable action flick. I hate that they killed off Shaw in such a cheap ass way. I thought the story about David was boring. The relationship between him and the other android was boring too.

Since the story and the characters were so bland I hoped the action would at least be decent. It wasn't.

I was watching the movie on my PC and then the PC crashed with 15 minutes left of the movie. I figured that ending was as good as anyone and I still haven't watched the last 15 minutes.

The first two Alien movies were excellent. The first one sets one of the best moods and atmospheres of any movie I've seen. The second one is as close to a perfect action movie as it gets. The third one is quirky but I kinda like it. From then on it turns to shit with the AvP movies adding to the shittery.

I re-watched this last week again with all you fellas in mind - I can admit more than i realized before that the crew is a little TOO dumb at times. I think even Ridley realized that there would be backlash over this so that's why he burnt the original captain up before he ever made it out of his sleeping pod. This crew had no firm direction or leadership & I'm thinking that is supposed to allow for some of the terrible decisions. I guess you can either let that ruin the movie or just accept it for what it is..

I stand firm that this is a very good film, however. The cinematography, acting, & production are top notch. I feel like Ridley can't really win with the audience any longer with these prequels. I say leave it be now that all of Prometheus' questions have been answered.. but apparently the next one is to focus on AI = David more than aliens.. meh

I thought Covenant was fun. I would have liked to have learned a little more about the Xenopedia.

That part, & when the 1 guy discovers the mutated snake that he tries petting & making his friend were a little cringe-worthy, yeah..

I liked Prometheus a fair bit more than Covenant, though...

i love the genre, I thought the characters were interesting, it had a lot of OMG moments (e.g. the shower attack scene at the end) and overall had a cool sci-fi feel.

Did they explain why they chose to spread their seeds on Earth?

Well, Prometheus reveals that we (humans) were created by Engineers. These Engineers had decided, & had a plan to destroy what they'd created with this black goo that mutates the human DNA. Shaw discovers the ship was on course 2000 years ago when things went horribly wrong for said Engineers on ship. This means biblical times..

It ties into Greek mythology & even the Bible where examples of the Gods are disgusted with mankind & want to wipe us out & start over. All layers of the story, in between the lines of the gnarly Alien horror. It's all very fascinating..

& speaking of Shaw...!

Why did everyone not like what they did to Shaw's character? I mean yeah, Noomi is sexy & a very talented actress but David uses her body, & internal female reproductive system to produce those very first facehugger eggs. So in a way she's like the first mother/queen of the Xenomorph = pretty cool to me!
