Looks like it would be right up my alley. It's based off an anime right? Any good? Never watched it....

I like Scarlett Johansson but she doesn't look like a Motoko Kusanagi to me. I figured someone like Rinko Kikuchi from Pacific Rim should have been the lead.

I'm torn on this. This seemed like a great opportunity to cast an Asian lead, but then again, this is a remake more so than an adaption. I don't believe it's actually set in Japan, and they're still using a lot of Asian actors.

The original film is one of the most important to come out of Japan in the last three decades, and the subsequent shows and movies have always been great.

We'll have to see about this one.

It's a remake? Because this is damn near shot for shot.

Mondo Darc if I'm unfamiliar with anything related to Ghost in the Shell should I avoid it prior to watching this when it comes out (pending decent reviews)? Is the story spoiler proof?

We really don't know for sure yet how closely this movie follows the story in the original anime film. That's why I can't decide if this is meant to be a Westernized reboot or a faithful live action remake.

If you have the opportunity, watch everything Ghost in the Shell. Every movie, every television series. It's occasionally pretentious and convoluted, but it's also incredibly thought provoking. It's some of the best anime out there.

Honestly I didn't care for the original Ghost in the Shell. I did enjoy Stand Alone Complex though.

I didn't really like the original either, though it had its moments. This one looks like it was made for retards.
