The Tragically Hip will be going on one last tour this summer and Downie says he will do his best to be on stage despite having been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in December.

He's 52 with a wife and four kids.

Aw fuck.

Super sad news.

Easily the biggest band in Canada to be completely unknown in the US.

Somehow I have never managed to see The Hip live, despite having tickets for them twice.

I am going to try hard to see them this summer, as they have always been on my bucket list, but I see tickets going FAST.

I honestly figured you'd have a Gord Downie story or two with all the music festivals and concerts you have attended. Hope you score tickets this summer.

Very sad news.

Like many Canadian kids, I grew up on the Hip's music. Only saw them once, many years ago at the Markham Fair Grounds.

I actually got turned on to The Hip on the college/alternative radio station where I went to school. For some reason they never really crossed over to the main stream rock stations in the states. I also don't ever remember them touring down here since I definitely would of seen them.

Sad news indeed. I just pulled out my old copy of Road Apples last weekend and listened to it all the way through.

Ridiculously sad. Poets was one of my favorite songs growing up.

Here Serge, this will make The Hip more relatable for you if you aren't already familiar with their music.

The Hip played a party in the Fords backyard when I was a youngster. This was before they got really big they were awesome and a highlight of my youth. Onion they played for Rob Ford now you can hate them.

A gig is a gig, especially if it was before they were a notable band.
Also, Rob wasn't Rob yet, so it's all good.

I caught them live in Columbus Ohio in this tiny venue right around the time time that Bobcaygeon song was actually hitting the US charts. It was really strange to me to hear them on US radio and nobody at the venue really knew them. I was able to get right up close and sing out every song it was pretty cool.

Makes sense that Kingston is their final show.

I'm going to try to get tickets to that one, rather than the Toronto show.

It's weird, the older I get the more I like his music. Sad news.

Bobcaygeon is one of my favorite songs ever. Spent a lot of time in that tiny little shitty cottage town.

Same here. We used to boat up the Trent-Severn from Peterborough and dock in Bobcaygeon for lunch.

The video for the song is awesome, especially because Hugh Dillon (Headstones) is in it.

"Til the men they couldn't hang stepped to the mic and sang..."

Tell me, how much time have you spent in Bigley's? The most popping place in town, baby!
