Illinois is fucking SCARY for me being a minority anywhere outside of Chicago. You don't have to drive more than 45 minutes away from city before you're surrounded by nothing but cornfields and tobacco chewing hicks.
Illinois really must be a shithole if its not safe for you in Chicago with all the black on black violence and then outside the city due to rednecks. Seriously, dude get the fuck out of there and come somewhere nice like........TEXAS! We accept you and have the best BBQ in the world. C'mon down. Chicago is a big place and heavily segregated at that. I went to high school in the heart of the city with people from all over Chicago and some of them lived in neighborhoods where they had literally never met a brown person before.
Basically if you stay out of the shitty neighborhoods you would never even realize that there is a violence problem.

Minnesota with 5.4% black population, lol, not to hard to see why we're second. Simple mathematics.

I haven't been to Chicago in years and it was a business trip so Im going by memory here.....but it does seem like it wasn't a mixed city back then. We were in the business district for a convention and one night we went to the German/Polish?? part of town for some old country food. Next we went to some blues clubs in black part of town. Another was in the downtown? area where we went to a high dollar steak house (maybe the Chop House or something like that). It didn't have the gang problem back then with all the murders. I do remember the wind off the lake blew like a bitch the whole time and thinking how do these people survive this in winter time.

You know why there didn't seem to a gang problem? It's because you weren't in the "black" part, lol.
Usually when you're at a work function they're not going to take you to those parts, lol, everything you mentioned as places you went were probably in a ten block area.

Normally Id agree with you but we did go into a pretty sketchy area to the blues joints and it wasnt any big deal. Today, probably not a good idea.
