How is it that their PR guy didn't say out loud, "Does anyone think this Twitter account might be too controversial?" |

The only logical explanation is that they had a program/robot who chose the 1 millionth follower - that's literally the only way it makes sense. If there was an actual human being who photoshopped @ihatenigerss on a jersey - then I simply have no idea. |

"Dislike" just simply doesn't cut it. Maybe we can get a "Loathe" button. |

It was even less serendipitous than that. They sent out an initial tweet saying that in light of [already achieving] a million followers, anyone who retweeted that tweet about the announcement would get a retweet back from the Patriots account that was the scripted message and automated jersey posting. So anyone that tweeted them got the same thing as seen in the OP, with their own username. The bot had a filtering system for stuff like the N word, but they didn't account for the user using a lowercase "L" in place of the "i" in the word. I don't blame them too much. It's a shame that you have to be so overly defensive on social media because no matter what the occasion, trolls are looking for any opportunity to fuck with it. Still though, they absolutely should know this, and made the mistake of automating it in the first place. There is no way they could make perfect filters, and even accounting for profanity there are unlimited usernames people could make insulting the team, players, staff, etc. that would immediately be retweeted by the Patriots account. |

I'm willing to bet that the Patriots did this just for publicity. You my think they dropped the ball on this but they really scored big
