I find as I've gotten older that my tolerance level for the ignorant mofos I run into has gotten better. For example, I was retro-fitting light fixtures in a pharmacy the other day and the department head was voicing her irritation that the lights in her immediate area were off for two separate 30 second intervals - once to disconnect the power and once more to reconnect. I politely explained to the bitch that when working with 347 volts it is always preferable (but not always possible) to turn the power off. I don't expect that she should know that 347 volts is the voltage that kills most electricians and I would expect that she doesn't care either. Years ago I would've fired back some smart ass comment when she started getting her panties in a knot but I realize it's just not worth it. People like her generally don't change their stance and usually getting into a confrontational situation just wastes time and energy. What about you guys? Do you find you're getting more chill or less chill as you put more miles on the life odometer? |

BTW - just for those who are wondering - the pharmacy bitch looked like a dyke. |

You've become so tolerant that you only resort to coming to this form and calling that "dyke" a "bitch." Seriously, it's a good topic, Skinman. I have often thought to myself over the past few years (and remarked to my wife) that I'm definitely getting more of an edge as I age. I don't tolerate poor service well at all. I try not to take it out on the poorly paid person working front-line service who has no control over bad policy (unless that front-line worker happens to be rude). But I no longer hesitate to insist on sharing my displeasure with a manager or sending an email letting someone at the top know that they need to tighten some screws. Also, pokey drivers who are doing about 10 km (several miles, you Americanos) under the speed limit, I don't have much patience for that. Sometimes I wonder whether we're becoming more impatient as a society. It always existed to some degree but because we live in an era where we can Google something on a smartphone immediately, I think it tends to make us want immediacy in other aspects of our lives as well. Just a theory. |

Depends on the person. If it's someone I like I might have more patience towards them. Is it someone I hate I will have less patience. It also depends on my mood and the topic or subject. If it's something I find really simple and I have to explain it several times I get annoyed. Some people get really annoyed at employees at coffee shops, bars, grocery stores etc. about prices and whatever. I can't stand those types of people. As if the people on the lowest salary of the company, corporation etc. can do anything to change the prices of fucking diapers or whatever some idiot might be complaining about. I have no tolerance for whiners like that. Now that you got me started on people I hate, I also have no tolerance for politically correct people or people who try too hard to be politically correct. There's always one of those pussies chiming in when I'm maybe joking around with my friends or telling a racist joke. Or when I call my friend a fag or something there's someone cringing. Get off your high horse, asshole! Also, people taking offense for someone else. "Ugh, I feel offended that you called your black friend a nigger, can you please stop?" No I can't and I won't. If he doesn't take offense you shouldn't either, dickhead. Okay, enough for now, I'll probably think of some more types I have zero tolerance for later. Edited by spasgur, Nov 13 2014, 09:42 AM.

It depends on the situation. In my career, I work with customer's a lot and I think I'm pretty good at it, so I hate bad customer service. I can relate to a waiter being overworked at a restaurant, so stuff like that doesn't bother me. However, things like walking into a business and not being greeted, checking out at cash register and the employee continuing a conversation with another employee without acknowledging you, being put on hold forever without an someone breaking the hold to periodically just to let you know they're still there, anytime anybody ever answers a question with "I don't know" ("I'll find out for you" is a much more acceptable answer), etc. drive me crazy. In terms of just dumb or rude people, I actually feel like I'm a lot more tolerant. Everybody has bad days, but miserable people are just miserable. They were miserable yesterday and they'll be miserable tomorrow. My life is pretty fucking awesome, so I'm not going to stress over some random person that I will almost certainly never see again. |

Oh, I want to stab someone in the neck with a rusty screwdriver on a daily basis....and it's getting worse. Honestly, if I didn't have a wife and kids I'd probably be in jail. |

I'm getting less tolerant. I think it might have to do with my increasing bitterness, unahappiness and general minsathropy. |
