I'm just going to make myself at home with you guys.
What the fuck does that mean??? You plan to loaf around on the couch with your slippers and robe on, letting your balls hang out? You'll endear yourself only to a person or two here with that approach, Wahoo!
you've already made 2 posts in the last 12 hours mentioning balls. i get you're a balls-man spilttie.
If there's anyone here I'd expect to be keeping count of ball and sack posts, it's you DHK.

How old are you Atroms? Not meant as a demeaning question or to set up a joke, just curious.

Alright, then it seems a bit soon to get kids.
You say that, yet most people under that age here (North America) have several kids!
Which seems so strange to me. No way I'd want the shackles of parenthood where I'm at in my life right now. Right now I can't imagine having kids before 35. There's just too much I wanna do and quite frankly I'm loving the freedom I have right now, I'm having a blast! Hell, even being in a serious relationship seems too hindering right now hehe. I have a friend my age who became a father last winter and every time we meet he bitches about how he misses being able to go out when he wants to and how he kinda regrets having a baby this early in his life. I mean, I want to do what I want when I'm still young and in my twenties. I remember talking to him about all this stuff before his girlfriend got pregnant and he said he wouldn't mind being a parent already. His thoughts on that have definitely changed since then.
These are my thoughts as well. I can't imagine having a kid or being married right now.
I believe were the same age?? Its just so damn tough to obtain the 'American Dream' in this life nowadays. I want nothing more than a couple brats & a wife. Fuck, i was ready for that 5 years ago. But the world makes it next to impossible to ever be in the perfect position for that anymore.. Ya with me?? Yeah, we're the same age.
Funny how one generation can make such a difference. When my parents were my age, they were married, had a house and two kids. I'm not really close to any of those things.
Some of it is definitely economics. The cost of living in the area I live in is exponentially higher than it was when my parents were my age. I'll probably start looking at condos or townhouses soon, but a single family house in a nice area is not very realistic.
A lot of it though, is just different attitudes. I saw how my parents marriage ended and I just don't feel like going down that same road. I'd rather wait and not rush through those things. I kind of see myself getting married and maybe having kids sometime in my 30's, but I honestly think I could be perfectly happy not ever getting married.
I have a few friends of mine that have kids, but with the exception of one of them, they're all just slow motion train wrecks.

I admire that you want to be financially secure before having kids. As Bulldog said, you may be overestimating the position you need to be in, but I'd rather more people took your approach. There's enough people out there not financially ready or emotionally ready to support a child, that are reliant on others. To be fair, when deciding to have children there is a difference between the following questions:
"Do we have the ability to provide food, shelter, and stability to a child in addition to our selves?"
and
"Do we have the ability to support ourselves and a child while still living something close to our current lifestyle?"
It is entirely possible to have a marginal income and support a child. It is also possible to have a marginal income while being able to indulge several personal luxuries (ie, buying UFC PPV shows, paying for a decent cable package / internet package / new-ish smart phone, going out to dinner and movies, and traveling overseas. ) depending on how often you do so and how many other things in your life you will sacrifice for it; It can be essentially impossible to have a marginal income, support a child and indulge your personal luxuries.
I am making decent enough money that I can afford to support my kid and still do the shit I give a damn about, though I expect the amount of month to month investment savings to be affected.
END COMMUNICATION

By the way, if you decide to have a kid then you also should be committed to staying married the rest of your life and not get divorced when Tristen is 2 years old and fucking them up with your failed marriage and warring with your ex the next 20 years.

Im in no hurry at all to have kids. I have a good head on my shoulders in that regard. Need to make sure i can marry her first anyways. Im 28, shes 33 = Her biological clock is ticking. In the end, if all works out for us, well probably only have time for an only child anyways. I think thats the best route for me, always have thought it actually..

If you get married and have a kid you shouldn't get divorced. If you do you will save time and money if you just kill the woman and not divorce her

I was told a long time ago if you wait to have kids until you can afford it, you never will. That quote might be true if you're an uneducated hick with a low paying job or if you're living in a country where you have to pay a fortune for healthcare and education
