Part of might be to trim down the team a bit. This is still only going to be the fourth film in their franchise and they're already dropping in 3 brand new heroes (Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman). You run the risk of some getting underdeveloped the more that you add.

Also, it makes perfect sense that Lantern isn't there. Hal Jordan is probably out in space watching the whole sector that he's been designated by the Guardians. If he shows up, I bet it'll be at the end, and maybe he'll come to warn them that he's spotted Darkseid somewhere out in the galaxy.

I'm still protesting the Grant Gustin snub (and that Flash suit looks like shit) and lack of Green Lantern, but I'm on board with the rest of it.
Once they decided to split the TV and Movie universes they couldn't use Grant.
Snyder dismissed Grant by saying that his Barry Allen wasn't the "tone they were looking for". First off, the guy's an actor - the writer and director determine the tone. And judging by that trailer I'd say it's exactly the tone they're going with! I'm assuming that after eating so much shit on BvS and seeing how well received the comedic slanted Suicide Squad trailers have been WB changed their tune and mandated a lighter movie.
The decision to split the TV and Cinematic Universes came from DC themselves.
I'm not arguing that. I think it's foolish, but I understand it. My point is if the separation was set in stone wouldn't it have been easier for Snyder to simply use it as an excuse to deflect the backlash? Why address the casting with some nonsensical answer?

The same reason Snyder took the hit for theatrical cut of BvS when the ultimate cut was his original cut. The Studio takes bullets for no one.

I saw The Killing Joke last night.

Basically, it's the opposite of BvS; they need to release a shortened version of the movie to improve it.

The first 25-30 minutes, which is the prologue focusing on Barbara Gordon, is a slog. A complete misfire to add depth to the character and narrative heft to the eventual plot revolving around the Joker.

The second that prologue is done, and the focus shifts to Batman and the adaptation of the comic, it seriously feels like a second movie has begun. The tone changes on a dime. The characters' faces were too blocky for my liking (they should've used the animation from Assault on Arkham), but the animation still looks really good when everything's in motion.

Well worth a watch, but considering the worthwhile part is essentially a 40 minute movie, not sure how much I'd recommend dropping $15 on the Blu-ray. Might be better to do a digital download/rent of it.

Suicide squad is starting to look more and more stupid to me. There's a guy on the team named Captain Boomerang, and he fights with... that's right, a Boomerang. A fucking Boomerang. Then there is another guy named Slipknot, and he's an assassin that is a master of ropes! He fights with ropes! And uses his ropes to tie stuff! In any promotional group shot of the suicide squad Slipknot seems to be absent every time, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with the characters life expectancy in the film.

CAPTAIN BOOMERANG.

Captain Boomerang is one the villains from The Flash's rogues gallery. He's a pretty old character. He's already been on The Flash in season 1. He was played by the guy that played Ashur in Spartacus.

The entire company was built around Superman and Batman. Everyone else was Fight Pass level.
