Most cell phone plans over here are horse shit bordering on being illegal at the best of times. I pay $70/mo for unlimited calls and texts, but with only 1 GB of data (or maybe it's 2...). Ridiculous. The only good provider in this area is Wind who offer something like $40/mo for unlimited everything, but you need to own your phone outright to get service through them.

Internet can be pricey here. I pay $65 a month which gets me uncapped internet and currently one of the fastest internet services in NY at about 150 download speeds and 30 upload. I'm grandfathered in though for that and its supposed to cost more.
Okay that doesn't seem so bad, but internet in Denmark is not very cheap either. I pay about $140 every three months for 35 download and 10 upload. I don't think I can get a faster speed than that, Copenhagen is for some reason really lacking behind in internet technology.
After your post, I was curious what the price was for my internet without the grandfathered price and it's supposed to be $105. I cant see myself changing unless they start capping internet here. I guess that isnt too bad even at $105 really considering what you are saying you pay

I can't believe you guys are sometimes spending $100 a month. How long is the contract for?
I just got my iphone 6 on a 2 year contract, so i'm now with them for another 23 months still. Just finished the first month of my contract which would of been at $89 a month.

So now i'm expecting to pay $75-80 a month for the next 23 months

How much would it be for just the subscription without the phone payment?

£15 a month for unlimited texts and internet with 1000 hours free talk time.
That's interesting. 1,000 hours of free talk. Is that for the entire year? Because no month has more than 744 hours.

1000 minutes.

Oops!

It's a rolling contract too. I dunno if you guys have them over there.

From what I read, had I used a phone with no contract, I would of paid 15 less. So around 65-70 a month, my bill would be

I pay $180 a month for (4) Samsung Galaxy S4's with unlimited everything, no contract. My data roaming worked great in Japan and the Philipinnes.

It's due to the population density in our terrific nation. Look at the size of the country we need to build a network for, versus say England, which has double the population and the entire network is likely smaller than Southern Ontario.

Add to that the fact that we get faster data speeds than almost anywhere in the world (a fact most Canadians have no clue about), it's pretty pricey to build and maintain such a network. Of course companies like Wind don't have to do that, as government regulation allows them to piggy back on existing providers networks for minimal cost.

Still, it's only a matter of time before Wind (and the other micro competitors) are out of business, as they have no intention of actually running a profitable business. Their end game is to sell their spectrum (purchased at a fraction of the cost the big providers were required to pay). Being price aggressive is just their only way to get a customer base, and of course the bigger base they can get pulls revenue away from the big guys (who actually have to pay for the network and spectrum).

All that said, our big providers haven't exactly done themselves any favors over the years, being slow to adapt to a new reality and treating customers like they still don't have a choice.

By the way, according to the latest reports, Wind recieves approximately 18 times as many complaints per customer as the best of the big three. Despite being the cheapest, they have tremendous coverage limitations and very poor service.

Ok, end rant.

What is your data speed? Using an iPhone 5S on 4G I get around 40mbps and on 3G around 4-6mbps

Is 3mbps upload not enough for cell phone use? I think mine is lower than that but never seem to get lag on things

I think any of the services provided by Bell/Telus/Rogers/anyone here are depressing. Our Internet is a joke, it's amongst the most expensive on the planet, they're trying to North Korea it here for everyone, cell service is exorbitant in price, cable TV is outrageous as well, and there's basically nothing to stop them from putting the boots to the consumer..... so they keep doing it constantly! And nobody steps in to do anything about it because they line the government's pockets. I feel like we're only a few years off from the point where people's telecommunication bills will rival that of a mortgage which is disgusting to me. Are they really gonna keep jacking prices up until most people are priced out of these services entirely?
