So what is it that gets you out of bed everyday to go take part in the insane asylum we refer to as "life"? |

Having a kid set my true retirement back 2 decades. I was going to take a travel job in respiratory for 5 years and let them pay my bills. Usual set up is they pay your rent and utilities. You pay for your car and phone. Pay is around 40 an hour. You can see with no real bills to pay you should be able to put away 40000 a year easily and significantly more if you do overtime, which I would have stayed around 48 to 60 hours a week. I'd have been retired by now almost. So I still can retire at 55 no sweat but 35 sounds better. Still eyeing a slot in Saudi arabia. I'd be debt free in a year. |

Right now I don't really think any further than next weekend. I go through the weeks at university just trying to get the days to pass. I train 3-4 times a week too. I get up at 7 AM and I'm home at about 5 PM. By then I'm too tired to do anything so I just cook some chicken, read a bit, maybe write on the semester project or watch a movie and then I go to bed at around 11 PM. That is basically how my weekdays go. So yeah, all I do is look forward to the weekends and all the beers I'm gonna drink. I don't really ponder my future at the moment. I'm 25 right now and I haven't given any thought towards getting a kid or starting a family. Right now I have absolutely no interest in any of that, I feel it would put limits to my life that I don't want. I like being able to do what I want and I wanna do that for at least 5-8 years yet. I might think more about the future when I graduate or when I turn 30, but right now, I'm just enjoying life. |

This is tough. The planner in me wants to know what the next 10 years, 20 years, etc looks like and I think there is value to looking ahead. I struggle with being in the here and now and enjoying the moment. Do you guys know about Alan Watts? British philosopher. I like him a lot. I think about this clip alot; it's put together by the South Park guys. I like the idea of what he's saying, and I'm trying to do that more. Right now I have a vague idea of the next year, and beyond that, I don't know. As far as money goes, I save as much as I can, and both my wife and I have Roth IRAs that we sock money into. It's not alot, but hopefully it helps with whatever lies ahead. |

Is there life outside this forum? LET ME OUT!!! ![]() Living pretty much day to day and generally satisfied. Slowly building toward retirement. But I don't take for granted that things will remain status quo. I think it was you Skinny who mentioned in a thread about a friend having health problems and it changed his life in a major way. You just don't know how long you'll have all you've got, so you best appreciate it! |

Retire on a beach somewhere... Reminds me of a guy I met while working on a job site a couple months back. He was from Alabama and his end game was to either purchase a piece of property in Hawaii or Belize, find a young local girl, have 6 six kids, and teach them all how to fish. He was probably in his late 30's and figured if things worked out he'd pull the pin in 2 years.
