Yeah, it's pretty obvious you are basing your views on a cartoon version of a stereotype. Also, the "American South" doesn't refer to Texas, New Mexico, California, etc. When people talk about The South, the are generally referring to the southeastern United States; places like Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc.

I suspect we've got a Texan here!
duh ashton! :D skellie is from austin. and he told me that judging by old CB's worldview and attitude, he can tell what part of hillbilly texas the old man is from. and he doesn't like those kind of people from that area.

I know Texas is kind of a diverse place, but I could tell he was a Texan when he was immediately insistent that Texas wasn't to be lumped in with Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, etc. In terms of stereotyping, it absolutely is.

It shouldn't be. There are parts of Texas with your hillbillies and rednecks - but they're very different from the people in the "deep south".

Texas just has more money and fat people, but there is a lot of similar mentality. I've always considered "the south" to be the southern states from Texas to the east coast.

Texas is considered Southwest more or less imo.

"South" is east of texas to Maryland. Or so. Imo.

I lump Texas in with AZ and NM, and most of the Inland Empire of California.

His "cure" will fail for the same reason communism fails. You can have restrictions and regulations within the free market and still have a thriving economy (no economy is pure capitalistic), but attempting absolute control will fail. Immigration = Economics.

Oh, I'm not saying that there aren't rednecks, racists, and weirdos in Texas. But they are a very different breed than the "southern folk". Texas culture and "southern" culture are very dissimilar.

Also, my point was about Zardoz saying that the brown old mexicans sneaking across the boarder would be noticed in small town Texas. Small town Texas on the boarder is made up entirely of Hispanic people that don't speak a lick of English and if an illegal showed up, no one would be able to fucking tell the difference. This isn't a Georgia plantation with white folk wearing white suits and fanning themselves. Much of Texas is a fucking barren landscape that looks exactly like Mexico filled with Mexicans who don't speak any English. That's why the Zardoz's image of obvious illegal immigrants being noticed in these small towns is so laughable.

Also, I make no defense of Texas in any way. Insult it all you want. But is isn't like Alabama or Mississippi. I'm not saying that one is better or anything, just simply that they aren't similar.

The peaceful humanitarians of Texas will pay the tab to bus the thousands of illegal kids to Manitoba where the latte drinking, poutine drinking saints can adopt them into their homes like Angelina Jolie shopping for a new baby in Uganda. Problem solved. Ash, how many do you want? Skinny? Tallica, you need 2 or 3?
