Today's immigration policy is the closest things to prohibition that exist. The more the immigration laws fail, the more the hardliners want to double down, which causes more failures, which then causes the hardliners to increase their rhetoric even more. It's a viscous cycle. Immigration is almost always about economics (with a few refugee situations scattered around). Any time you have a two border nations that have large economic disparities, you're going to see consistent immigration patterns. The best policies accept this reality instead of trying to create one of their own. We need to increase the number of immigrants we allow into the country and make it easier for them to do so. Then the Feds can focus their limited resources on combating real criminals, like human smugglers, arms dealers, organized crime, etc. and not waste time and money on chasing down families that only want to contribute to the American economy. It's a complicated issue - and I have a wife who immigrated here and became a citizen. The process is ridiculous to become a citizen here - and it takes awhile. HOWEVER, no other in the world allows what we allow in terms of immigration. Not one. If Mexicans were to flock to Japan - they'd be deported in many ways the Republicans are suggesting we do to the Mexicans here (stereotyping this - so don't get in a political debate). I'm not smart enough to know what the answer is - but I think there should be a way for people to immigrate to the US a bit easier if it's warranted while still not allowing just anyone to come here to start a life. As grim as it is - population control is necessary for a country's survival. |

Just wanted to clarify: It wasn't just conservative whites. It was pretty much all whites. That said - you can't lump an entire group of people together like that - unless all of a sudden racism is ok with you. |

She was wearing a geisha outfit too and bowed a lot. It freaked me out at first until I figured out how to use it to my advantage |

it's one thing to come here legally and go through the whole process of becoming a citizen. but to come here illegally like those chicanos and live off this land is fucked up. also, it's equally fucked up to enter here legally through a travel visa or a student visa and stay illegally past the allowed period, which is what most gookies do or used to do. |

Theory: - Europeans do not look foreign at a glance, so no one notices until they talk to them. - Mexicans tend to cross directly into the countryside american south, where both poverty and racisim are more prevalent. - Being directly in the countryside, illegal immigrants will turn up more often in small towns. Small towns notice when someone 'new' is seen around town. it is more jarring. - Asians tend to land in larger american cities, which already have people from all over the place. - People in large cities tend to not notice each other. You see new / unfamiliar people every day. END COMMUNICATION |

Uh...poverty and racism (in the sense you're pushing them as) are NOT prevelant in the geographical areas that Mexicans would enter the country at. Just saying. |

If you're willing to speak English and abide by our laws then I'm cool with you being here. If you're a fucking turban head who speaks jaballa balla, refuses to learn English, mooches off government aid and protests shit in the streets about your own religion then fuck off back to your sand hole. |

I don't like the argument, "we are all immigrants" because our ancestors immigrated from somewhere. We simply aren't the same country we were when this nation began. We don't need or want your poor, tired, or huddled masses. To pretend that it's the same as then is pointless. That said, illegals play a huge role in this country. They are also a huge burden. I don't like that we have this weird, "gray market" if you will of second class citizens that keep of food and housing cheap, but make our schools and healthcare skyrocket. Also, I get why Lord Zardoz is making his guesses, but he couldn't be further from the truth. |
