Two MMA legends are set to collide once again, but they will do it outside of the Octagon.

Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie, who fought at the UFC 112 card in Abu Dhabi in 2010, will battle in a superfight at ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship’s next edition, scheduled for September 2015 in Manaus, Brazil.

"It’s a done deal," Gracie told MMAFighting.com. "Matt asked to compete again at the ADCC and they offered me this wonderful fight. I wasn’t expecting for this, but I immediately accepted it."

Gracie won two ADCC gold medals in his career, winning the 1998 and 2000 editions in Abu Dhabi. In his last appearance, he lost a superfight against Ze Mario Sperry by points.

Hughes competed once at the tournament, scoring wins over Ricardo Almeida and Jeremy Horn, and losing to Jeff Monson and Tito Ortiz.

"Let’s do this again," Gracie said. "Every time I have a chance to compete, I’m in. I can’t say now. He fought there before, he’s really tough. It’s going to be a great fight."

Why even announce this a year before it's scheduled?

So people get excited before it's cancelled without a word uttered about it.

It's the ADCC way!

The best will be the "Cain Velasquez and Jon Jones have entered the 99 kg + division!!!11" rumors they'll intentionally start.

They wouldn't do that. It'll be Jeff Monson vs Cain Velasquez or something like that - but then Cain will get replaced with some no name from Brazil.

And Cain will have never had any clue that it was ever happening in the first place.

I was just saying that they wouldn't completely lie about the fight (i.e. one guy would be promoted the whole time) but shit - they probably would now that I think about it

ADCC - isn't that like a giant sleep over for fighters???

But seriously. I watched Matt's fight with Tito years ago but never seen his fight wih Monson. A rematch with Tito would be more exciting than with Renzo. I'd piss myself laughing if Tito got wrecked by Hughes in a rematch.

I'm fairly ignorant to the grappling world, is Renzo still a competitive grappler? I know Eddie Bravo tooled Royler in their rematch, but it was ruled a stupid draw.

None of the guys you mentioned are really competitive or top tier

It seems like all the big names of ADCC past were top mma fighters (Mark Kerr) or at least attempted to be competitive mma fighters (Jean-Jacques Machado). If you're a top grappler but don't compete in mma then nobody outside the grappling world gives a crap (Kron Gracie).

Oh yeah, so my point is the old timers (Hughes/Gracie/Sperry) are brought back for these special challenge matches to possibly sucker in the mma fans who normally wouldn't pay much attention - IMO.
