World Championships are taking place this week in Russia. Anybody following?

It's been a complete disaster for the US team so far. Marti Malloy pulled off an upset, only to lose her next match. I believe she's the only American to win a single match. Delpopolo, Stevens, and the rest have lost in the opening round. Kayla Harrison hasn't competed yet. She's been injured most of this year, so I don't really expect her to take home gold, but hopefully she can save a little bit of face for 'Murica.

Illiadis fights tomorrow and Riner on Saturday. Other than that, I don't really follow competitive Judo enough to know too many more of the top competitors.

Not sure if you noticed the new member that signed up. His user name is |CRAZDAZN|. He's a buddy of mine who recently got into Judo. I believe he just won the state championship for white belts in Tennessee. He's new to the sport, but really getting into it. I told him to try t get on here to talk about Judo a bit. We'll see if he posts.

Tell him not to be shy. There's no way the Turkish Oil Wrestling thread should be more popular than the Judo thread.

He's not a shy dude. He happened to be back in town last weekend, and signe dup after I told him about our place. He hasn't been on since, but I shot him an email telling him to get on here a few minutes ago.

Greetings fellow judokas and other martial arts fellows. New to the forum and looking forward to discuss and train with anyone who might be in the Nashville area or in Murfreesboro Tennessee. I am still a white bit looking to rank up as soon as I find a dojo to attend. Nashville MMA seems to be my first pick. But anyways looking forward to hearing from everyone soon. B-)

Welcome aboard, man. If you feel like making a formal introduction, the general discussion has a stickied thread for introducing new members. Just be ready for an onslaught of people trying to piss you off. Oh, and there is this really short gay asian dude named DHK1980. He might get jealous to find out there is another asian dude on here. :p

Lol I'll drop a post on the intro thread and start fishing to see what DHK1980 has to say 😁

Harrison wins her bronze medal match by a shido and prevents the American team from having a completely wasted trip to Russia.

Also, Illiadis wins Gold with a makikomi for ippon.

You'd probably not have to worry too much about your ukemi. Getting thrown by high level judokas is actually quite fun. I've been tossed by a former Olympian before and at that level, you don't have to worry very much about landing awkwardly or getting hurt. Those guys have unbelievable control. Getting thrown by a newbie is when all that ukemi practice really pays off.

Now actually throwing a guy like Iliadis (or even getting a grip) is another story. I have no advice to help you with that :)

Teddy Riner does what Teddy Riner does and wins another World Championship.

Hey guys as my tag suggests I have a bit of a judo background... Was on the Canadian national team for about 15 years or so and got to compete in quite a few international tournaments over the years, highlight being a silver medal at the British Commonwealth games around 94 or so I think.

Retired from competition for about 10 years now but I still train with my kids. Any questions I'd be happy to try to answer. My specialty was leg and ankle picks so my style is not particularly applicable in the current competition environment, lol.

Ah! You're the one to blame for the rule changes.

Kidding. Good to meet you. I'm another judoka on here. My only international experience was competing at the US Open where I got obliterated. My daughter is the competitor in the family now.

Well damn, Telerion finally made an appearance. I was about to make a thread debating the the pros and cons of flat rate taxation just to try to pull you back in.
