I don't think he's talking about wrist control, but ripping your arms back when someone grabs your wrist isn't the way to go. It doesn't give you leverage and leaves you open. Bad advice. tsk tsk.
I'm talking about initially, and constrained to movement in just your arm; not something where you use your whole body leverage like an arm drag

edit: found a vid to illustrate and it shows what I mean right at the start.

Oh ok. That's a bit different. It seemed - from how I initially read your post (which was obviously wrong) - that you were advocating "tearing" your hand after it was grabbed.

If you're having trouble clearing your opponents hands (as in - his hands are in the way of your shot and they block you allowing him to easily sprawl/reverse when you shoot in) - then likely you're not setting up a proper shot angle and are just coming in from far away. That's where the nuance of wrestling takes place and part of the strategy of properly setting up a shot and getting in a better position. It comes with time.
This is it. I'll try to set up my shot but not manage to clear one of their hands or have a bad angle and they'll stop me from getting the penetration or rotation I need.

Where exactly are you having issues getting penetration? As in, are you trying to do a double straight away and going right into the web?

I think a lot of it is done to my conditioning. I just feel slow. I have injuries/niggles in hips, my hip flexors, knees and back. Also even when I do get deep on a double or single I don't have the power to drive through and finish. Been trying to do some yoga to loosen them up.

I also make that classic error of head down, ass up. My coach keeps telling to get my ass low, my back straight and my head up

Dwarf, get yourself on a squat and deadlift program and watch your double-leg destroy people. With proper technique the squats should help repair some nagging injuries you may have in your back and legs, and you're going to develop some mean explosive power.
