Had my first wrestling session today in about three months. Didn't survive the warm up. Tapped out after coach said to do 1000 dips.

I probably couldn't do 1000 dips if someone put a gun to my head

He's too much of a pussy to wield that kind of power.

He's like a kid who got a pair of nunchucks for his birthday but is too scared to swing them around because he might hit himself

What do you mean by clearing your hands? Like your opponent has wrist control and you can't shake it, or something else? Msot importantly you should just not allow them to get it in the first place. Anytime opponent tries to grab you just immediately rip your arm backwards. With some wrist control you can just swim your arm around theirs, which twists their grabbing hand wrist and forces them to get rid of the grip, but that won't work in most scenarios or with anyone decent. They must have an incredible grip if you can't get your arm out 2 on 1. Arm you just using 2 on 1 to setup an arm drag, or are you actually using it to try to free the grib, by grabbing their wrist with your free hand, pushing with that one, and ripping out the other?

Or you can get creative and try to use their own wrist control against them, because any hand focused on controlling you is one less to protect their legs. You can let them have the wrist control and shot in with the opposite arm to grab a high-crotch single.

I don't think he's talking about wrist control, but ripping your arms back when someone grabs your wrist isn't the way to go. It doesn't give you leverage and leaves you open. Bad advice. tsk tsk.

Jmose is absolutely right about the best way having open hands though. Obviously, don't let your hands get caught, but if they do grab you from the outside - that's not a bad thing. With a simple twist of your wrist (turn the palm of your hand towards your inside and then rotate your hand up) - you will either break their grip or cause them to get in an awkward position. This will leave an opening for you.

If you're having trouble clearing your opponents hands (as in - his hands are in the way of your shot and they block you allowing him to easily sprawl/reverse when you shoot in) - then likely you're not setting up a proper shot angle and are just coming in from far away. That's where the nuance of wrestling takes place and part of the strategy of properly setting up a shot and getting in a better position. It comes with time.
