My overview of clanning is pretty short, as ive only really been committed to one particular clan, but i'll do my best to try share my "vast " knowledge of the Runescape clanning world. I began clanning about two years ago on the RSB, many of the "real" clans that work outside the RSB frown apon clans that are based on RSB but actually see the RSB as a good place to begin your first steps into the clanning world. I started clanning in a small clan called GTG assassins which was made by afew friend after my old clan Divine Assassins died. Being in a RSB is an ideal way to become part of a more social part of Runescape, which can inhance your enjoyment. These first few steps on RSB allowed me to get an idea what i wanted to get out from the clanning world, as i wanted to have a community clan. I then stumbled somehow onto RSC, which straight gave me the impression that this was the main hub for clans. It took me ahwile but i carefully started to look for a clan that i felt was right for me. I had'nt at this point really been introduced to Warring, and from looking at pictures it really did get me interested. At this stage i knew i couldnt go in clans such as DS or Di, so i wanted to start off somewhere in the middle. Which led me to the clan i am in now, and one that i feel i'll be with for a very long time:![]() Here is where i learnt about clanning, and what i can base my advice from. As i have learnt alot from this clan, which you also can learn from. Masters of Dragons has become important to me, as it almost feels like Internet home to me which is full of friends and history. Ive had som uch fun with this clan whether this be with its variety of events, its success its failures or general banter on IRC and Vent. This is what i believe that a clan should stress to do, just have fun. Dont be angry at your members when you lose a war or have a bad turnout if your clan is achieving fun then in my book its a success. Which to me, makes Mod one of the best clans around. When i first joined Mod it was the era where we saw our most success, i was a mere lvl 100. And i was contstantly being destroyed in the wildy, (Still am but that doesnt matter). I did struggle to fit in to be honest and things just seemed to be getting too competitive and i was hardly getting noticed. But shortly people started to appretiate me and welcome me, which i liked i started to be friends with members and leadership. I was now at the stage where i was at home, and was having fun months, and then it happened! The breakoff emerged as Outcast was made, which as a result nearly destroyed Mod, but the compassion for this clan really was shown as me and others fought to keep us open. This is where my best example of success can be shown, as i recruited so much to get us active members, which in the end payed off as the following months after October were some of the funnest times ive had in Mod! For me the Outcast incident reflected the idea that if your going to be in a clan, you should be dedicated and not jump ship in the first sign of failure, as success could be right behind the corner. Im going to be honest here and say that RAW ranks is not what makes the clan, its the community. I have learnt alot from Mod, as a member i have tried to get as much success out of it. Some have succeeded some have blatently failed, but its all appretiated as it keeps the clan active. It has all been worth it as I and others have enjoyed the stage of trying out new things, its a fact of life that whatever you do and if you fail you just need to pick yourself backup and try again. As a Mod member my main role has been a recruiter, i have tryed differnt ways in getting us members. Which has learnt me a number of things but they key idea that recruiting has taught me is its not quantity thats important but quality. As the quality of our members has always been good, with characters being part of mods history which has made us blossum. The clan has now been open for nearly four years, i am proud of this and im not afraid to show it. My pride for this clan is made clear as i speak truthly in my recruitment topics which i take time to do as i try to handwrite each recruitment topic and personlise each one. I take pride from this as i want to make sure we get the right people for Mod. Sure it dissapoints me when i fail to recruit the people i'd love to see in Mod but like i said you just gotta pick yourself back up and try again. Im not the perect clan member as the passion i have for my clan does sometimes explode, its happened on numerous occassions as i do have a short fuse but to be honest Mod has helped me control it and bite my lip. A ggod clan like Mod is able to control members from ranting out of control and is not afraid to dish out the strikes when needed. Leadership is key ingrediant for a clans success, they need to take actions when needed and make sure the clan runs smoothly. But in my view a good clan leader does not run their clan as a dictatorship, in Mod it is not like this and is alot more smooth running. Our leaders allow members imput as their ideas are just as valued as any others, just because of rank doesnt meen voices should go unheard. Mod has just had a major Leadership shift, it has had an effect as it happened at the same pint when PVp came out so our leadership had to make decisons. Some didnt like it and unfortunatly left, which has left Mod in the same boat as the Outcats incident. But this time we know what must do so i know were going to be fine, my leadership know what i think we should do as once again my voice has been heard!. And thats it Thank You for reading, if you wish to talk to me more. Im more than likely to be on Masters of Dragons IRC at #clanmod. Happy clanning Dave |
