As the lead spriter of the Last Ninja Online development team it is my duty to help ya'll to improve your spriting skills. So I desided to put up some tutorials about how to sprite. Beginner Tut(s) http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/index.html (Very good site to begin with) http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32291 (Make a simple blob lol) http://www.zybez.net/community/index.php?showtopic=724901 (Really good tutorials, good read on shading too) http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa263/s...ingtutorial.png (Every one who sprites needs to know this) Update: 8-26-2008 http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/22121/t683...lots-of-images/ (Basic tutorial on hair and clothing...credit to Sasorikiller for finding it) Other Tut(s) Sprite Tut Part. 1 Sprite Tut Part. 2 Sprite Tut Part. 3 http://www.manningkrull.com/pixel_art/tutorials/walking.asp (very nice tut on walk cycles) http://www.kawaiihannah.com/pixelart/tutorials.php (Will blow your mind...excellent tutorials) http://www.freewebs.com/howtosprite/ (has a wide range of tutorials) http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=967 (Spriting from scratch guide) http://www.derekyu.com/?page_id=218 (tuts on the side) http://web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/courses/fr...st/default.html (So you want to be a Pixel Artist?...great read) http://www.flipflopflyin.com/g/2006/06/how...pixel-head.html (A tutorial about spriting heads, any program) 8-26-2008 http://www.rmxp.org/forums/index.php?topic=36478.msg413857 (Bunch of spriting templates to practice on) Hair http://shaffyness.ymvdesigns.com/hair.html Very straightfoward hair tutorial. http://ppkh.davidsonlinegallery.com/pixels/tut-hair.php An excellent tutorial on drawing hair. Definately handy for those of you who are spriting on larger templates like the Kaizer Sprites. Folds http://www.himenosakura.com/images/t...tutorial02.gif A tutorial for folds. However this deals with folds in dresses and may not apply to many sprites but it is still handy. Other/General Usually tutorials in here cover more than one topic and I can't place it in one category by itself. http://www.pixelforest.cn/tutorial/tutorial.htm This site is in Japanese but the tutorials are clear enough so you don't need to be able to read the language to benefit from it. http://ssn.sonicstadium.org/index.ph...ls&id=Beginner Geared towards Sonic Sprites in particular but the techniques explained in these tutorials can apply to any sprite. Tileset Tutorials Geared towards making tilesets, Object tutorials. http://pixel-zone.rpgdx.net/shtml/tutmini-grass.shtml Grass tutorial. An interesting perspective on something we sort of take for granted. http://pixel-zone.rpgdx.net/shtml/tutmini-logs.shtml Logs tutorial. Very helpful for shading wood and cyllinders. http://pixel-zone.rpgdx.net/shtml/tu...rickwork.shtml I particularly like this tutorial ^__^. Drawing bricks for walls and houses and floors. http://pixel-zone.rpgdx.net/shtml/tutmini-wood.shtml Shading wood tutorial, slightly advanced though...but it's helpful. Other Tutorials Shading http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/shading.html Just say no to pillow shading. Click to find out why. http://www.spriteart.com/tutorials/01_dither.html Dithering Tutorial. When you don't wish to use many colors or want to achieve a gradient effect. This tutorial showed me a lot. I'm so grateful *flails*. Ripping http://sprites.fireball20xl.com/HTML/tut/animget.htm For those of you who are into ripping graphics, Animget is a necessary program! Learn to use it here. Color Theory http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/colours.html What colors work in spriting. Basic Drawing http://www.spriteart.com/tutorials/01_lines.html Lines and Curves. A must. NOTE: Some of these links may be broken or has changed their URL |
