New Codex, new Models, new Units

So there is the promise of a new Codex (Out at GW outlest already). Other forums are ripping into the Codex content, new units, applications for the old units. For example the Death Company is now going to be a troop choice, but it can't hold ground for objective grabbing. Death Company Dreadnoughts are also Troops!

What I'd like to talk about is the new plastic kits: Baal Predator, Death Company, and the Sanguinary Guard (formerly the golden helmeted Honor Guard)

First to the Predator: Hey! GW! Stop stealing my ideas!

The Baal Predator can now mount either Twin Assault Cannons OR the Flame cannon from the Redeemer. That was IG Hellhound turret design. I was even putting the flame tanks in the back of the turret sticking out the rear. Dang you, GW! That said, WOW! No more playing with getting the metal to hold on the plastic. Options instead of pigeon-holed. Of course it is still short range, but this is still a small slice of AWESOME!

Death Company is kitted out on the sprues to make 5 Marines, but there are Tactical and Assault squad options. So once constructed there will be many leftover parts for making youre Vanilla Marine parts more Bloody-Angelishtic. Plastic is good.

The Sanguinary Guard looks like Dante has some "Summer" children. They have the Greek god-look Muscle suits, the helmet haloes, two of them have the Deathmask, and they All have wings (in place of jump packs) It kind of makes Dante's jump pack look lame. All plastic again. That standard is precut and just waiting for a sloppy paintjob.

I don't know about you, but when I say the Angel Wings and the muscle suits, I wasn't thinking "Marines" I was thinking statues. They would look really good as parts of the scenery kits. Imagine an angelic bronze statue with halo and wings and a Bolt Pistol destroying a daemon in the town square.

All in all, I am disappointed that I jumped on the Bandwagon too soon with Dark Angels and didn't wait for the really cool space vampires to come out almost 2 years later. Well, the Ravenwing box is still a terrific bargain at $90 for 6 bikes, Attack Bike and Speeder.

You realise that at this rate the Dark Angels will have a unit of Ultimate-Shooty-Death-Who-Also-Win-The-Game-On-A-Roll-Of-1tm.

Possibly Dreadnoughts that will zip around the battlefield on customised Ravenwing bikes.
The Deathwing will come with obsidian power weapons that add 2 to the strength of the user and have instant death.
The Ravenwing will have found a large number of jetbikes in the corner of garage 73 under a sheet of tarpaulin with the graffiti "No Jetbikes under here! Signed, Luthor".
The Land Raider Ares will be a Dark Angels only tank with an offical entry in the list.
Scouts will be sabotage masters able to stop a Waaaagh! on their own.
There'll be even more robey-goodness for the Fallen.

Back to the Blood Angels, the plastics look nice, certainly scope for conversions there, Grey Knights from the Sanguinary Guard for example. Its the metal stuff I'm not too keen on. They just seem like stock poses to me.

The wings on the Sanguinary Guard look a little too flimsy, in my opinion. Like they couldn't even lift the user off the ground. I like the plastics overall, though  , but I'm still content with my choice of chapter.

Personally, I find that the new BAs are a prime example on how Games Workshop is pushing the "grimdark" envelope. The vessel of Saginus fig (sorry I don't now how to spell it) is a perfect example of this.

You can't go onto the GW site and copy and paste the name?

The Wings, I feel a little... meh... about them. I caught a glimpse of them about 3 weeks ago, and thought they went onto the Jumppacks as decoration. If they actually replace the jumppacks I'm going to walk away.

What am I saying? I ain't going to walk away, I'm going to go on the net like everyone else and complain about it!

Still want that Ultimate-Shooty-Death-Who-Also-Win-The-Game-On-A-Roll-Of-1-Unittm for my Dark Angels though.......

I think the BA's strength is still going to mainly come from its assault units. Mephiston is going to die just the same way that a demon prince is going to. Dante is one cool cat though letting people not scatter, but again if someone wants to pay the points for him AND a unit a vanguard let them. They can have their one good charge and then be blasted to little pieces.

the blood raven is going to be the ace up the sleeve until i get to see it a few times on the field, being able to drop a dread and have it charge is really freaking good...especially if you use moriar the chosen...i think he made it into the book. The blood strike missiles are going to be something to be very wary of, especially since if the raven stay still in one turn it can drop a WHOLE LOT OF HURT on a single target...(nob bikerz?)

My only real gripe about the book is how easy it is to "hand out" FNP...this really shouldn't have happened IMO simply because i don't think that they pointed it appropriatley...can you really put a point cost on something like that? its the same as Ragnar giving a turn of furious charge to the whole army.

Just so everyone knows, the wings are on the sides, but there is still a jump pack on their back. It is a single tube instead of two, so maybe the wings provide some guidance, but they still have a rocket strapped to their backs.

I'm thinking that the new codices are showing a return to the old Hero-hammer, but with the caveat that you need Troops to win the battle. So heroes and troops make for a lot of walking. In all, I like the direction the 5th Ed Codices are going. They need to update DA, though.

Ah, good. Its a relief to see that they haven't just slapped on a pair of wings and called it good. That just wouldn't make anatomical sense!

I don't really like the way that the wings look, it just makes them look too much like the armor they are wearing doesn't belong in 40k unless you are playing for chaos.

I invite hero hammer back, nothing is wrong with there being two bad-ass mofo's each leading a charge and slamming into each other...besides vanilla marines get 10 bad-ass guys for 400 points....thats a freaking steal.

Okay. New Report.

I just got a shipment from Battlewagon Bitz at the Warstore website. Two Baal Predator frames (no Rhino kit).

I was surprised by why I found. Not only does the fram include a complete turret with the options for either the Twin Assault Cannons or the Flame cannon including specialist pieces on the turret rear, but it also comes with some bonuses. The Predator sponson has been reworked. There is a bottom brace arm, a new Heavy Bolter with much larger ammunition bin, Separate armor cover, and the Heavy Flamer is the Marine design. Even if you are not making the Baal version, these parts are a good bargain.

That is not all, though. The Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, and crew are new sculpts. The Hunter-Killer Missile, cupola and hatches are included. What I found best, though, was the sprue comes with a different Glacius plate from the standard Rhino. Instead of the Rhino double pane armor cover and dual vision ports, the Baal has a single vision port on the right side with a top-hinge armor cover. The left side of the glacius is flat for customization. Excellent stuff.

All-in-all the whole look is updated.

More bits recon. The Death Company frame comes with 2 hand flamers that are pretty darn big. On a Guardsman it will look like a stubby Flamer. That and it will make the standard flamer look like a Heavy Flamer. Cool Idea? :goofy:

:crying:

You guys suck.
