Name: Korin Zaphk, but he prefers to be called Korin.

Age: 12

Gender: Male

Background: Korin lived in Mahogany Town for the first ten years of his lives. In Mahogany Town, Korin had few friends. This was due to the fact that he was so shy. Back at home, he grew up under the teachings of Pryce, the Gym Leader. In fact, it was Pryce who inspired Korin to become a Pokemon Trainer. Korin lived near Pryce's house for most of his life. When Korin was young, his parents begged Pryce to teach and raise Korin because they were afraid that they wouldn't be able to raise him. Korin's parents were incredibly poor and had few possessions.

When Korin was around the age of four, his house was attacked by the Red Gyarados that had been terrorizing the local area. The Gyarados were ruthless, ripping through the area with ferocity and striking fear in the hearts of the locals. Many people fled the area in fear, leaving Korin with almost no friends. As his family ran away with what little things that they had, he watched as the Gyarados tore up his house in seconds. That was when Korin remembered that he didn't have his most prized possession: his Wooper plushie, "Upaa". Korin began to cry, screaming about how they had to go back and get Upaa, only to be told that he could get another one later. As sweet as the offer seemed, Korin was set on retrieving his “Upaa”. Eventually, Korin convinced his parents to go back and retrieve Upaa while the Gyarados were gone. Along with his parents, Korin searched the rubble that was once his house for about an hour. Finally, Korin found Upaa under a piece of wood. Korin bent down to pick Upaa up, when suddenly, he heard something behind him. Looking up, Korin saw the most terrifying thing he had ever seen in his life: an angry Gyarados. As the Gyarados was about to attack, Korin was surprised so see it fly off instead. Tears in his eyes, Korin looked around, trying to see what had hit the Gyarados. Eventually, his eyes settled upon the Pokemon that had saved him. It was a magnificent Weavile. After being saved by the Weavile, Korin and his parents set off towards Pryce’s house.

Korin had no idea about what was going on. His parents were talking to an old man, on their knees, tears in their eyes. A few minutes later, his parents got up to leave, their faces still wet. When Korin got up to leave with them, he felt a hand on his shoulder, holding him steady. Korin began to cry, struggling and trying to escape the grip. As Korin was crying, his mother approached him, tears forming in her eyes. “Korin,” she said, “Mommy and Daddy have to leave now. You stay here with old man Pryce. He’s going to take good care of you.” This only made Korin more upset, the small boy screaming and pushing Pryce. Then his mother kneeled down in front of him and placed something in his hands. Hugging him, she began to cry, and told him goodbye. Then his father came up and patted him on the head, telling him to “be a good boy” and that they’d meet each other again some day. Ten minutes after Korin’s parents left, the small boy finally stopped crying. He was still sad, but then he remembered to check what was in his hand. Looking down, he discovered that it was a small figurine of a Shiny Wooper. The small tan figurine was cold in his hand, which was probably because he was in the Ice type Gym Leader’s house. Minutes later, Korin became bored and lonely, so he went to find Pryce. Once he found the old man, Pryce asked him his name and how old he was. Eventually, Korin became comfortable around Pryce and began to tell him about his day and the attack of the Gyarados, using his hands and many childish noises like “Whooosh” and “Powww”. This had the old man laughing and eventually the two became very close.

When Korin was around the age of eight, he met his rival and best friend. The boy’s name was Lenis Ragalt. Lenis was a bit of a loudmouth and was sometimes intimidating, but the two got along well. Lenis and Korin seemed to be exact opposites. Lenis was loud, intimidating, didn’t ever shut up, and never had trouble making friends. Korin was quiet, shy, barely spoke, and had only a handful of friends. This amused Korin, and he laughed about it to himself often.

A couple of days ago, Korin received his first Pokemon. Pryce woke him up early that morning and brought him out to the front of the gym. In front of the doors was a small Pokeball. The Pokeball had a small blue ribbon on it and a small note next to it. On the note said, “Happy Birthday, Korin. I hope you enjoy your present. Take care of it! –Old Man Pryce” Korin picked up the ball and clicked the button, releasing his new Pokemon from the ball. Korin was overjoyed when he discovered what Pokemon he received. It was a sleek, black Sneasel. The Sneasel instantly came up to the boy and Korin began petting it. Korin understood why he had recieved a Sneasel. Pryce wanted him to remember the Weavile that had saved his life. This made Korin very happy, but then he realized something. If he was being given a Pokemon, then he was being sent on a journey. And if Korin was being sent on a journey, then he was leaving Old Man Pryce. This saddened Korin a bit, because Pryce had become like a grandfather to him. The old man taught him many life lessons and had taken good care of him.

Later that day, Korin pressed the old man about his journey. Pryce didn’t beat around the bush or try to soften him up before he told him what was going on. Pryce told him that he needed to find his parents and that he could become a great Pokemon Trainer if he put his hear into it. This convinced Korin that he would become a great Pokemon Trainer and make Pryce proud. Not only was Korin going to make Pryce proud, but he was determined to pay back the man for all that he had done. He had selflessly brought up the boy as his own and gave him the best that he had to offer. So, with the idea of repaying Pryce, Korin left to start his new journey.

Personality: Korin is a rather shy boy who enjoys ice cream, winter sports, Wooper, and battling. He is easily entertained and even small things make him happy. Because he doesn't have many friends, Korin sometimes vents to his Wooper plushie which he has kept over the years to remember his parents. He is pretty smart, but sometimes he can be a bit scatterbrained. Korin has a huge fear of Gyarados because of his childhood. Korin is thought to be weird because he wears a coat in Mizuris City, but he thinks he is balanced out because he wears shorts. Once he gets to know you, Korin is very friendly and cheerful, making him a great friend.
