{ Learning Moves }

A Pokemon can have more than four moves, unlike the games. As Pokemon level up, they learn more powerful or diverse moves. Serebii's PokeDex is referred to in order to determine what moves are learned at what level.

TMs and HMs can be used if the character has received them in the RP, and if the Pokemon is capable of learning said move.

{ Universal Moves }
This is a list of moves all Pokemon know regardless of level and species, but is not included in their moves list unless they officially learned it.

-- Tackle
-- Headbutt
-- Pound (if it has limbs)
-- Scratch (if it has claws)
-- Defense Curl
-- Growl
-- Tail Whip (if it has a tail)
-- Roar (effectiveness varies depending on Pokemon's aggressiveness)
-- Bite (if it has fangs)
-- Take Down
-- Wing Attack (if it has wings)
-- Sand Attack (if there is sand in the surroundings)

Basically, anything all Pokemon should be able to do realistically. But since they didn't officially "learn" it, these attacks' usefulness may be dimmed compared to if they trained to use the moves. For example, they may miss more often or hurt the user as well.

{ Learning Without Leveling }

It is possible to teach a Pokemon an attack without having to level them. In this case, you will need to write out a lengthy scenario in which you are training your Pokemon. If you finish it in one post, a moderator will decide whether or not your Pokemon successfully learned the move depending on how well you RPed it. You can also carry out the training over several posts rather than trying to make your Pokemon learn it at one time.

{ How Damage is Calculated, Mod Reference Mostly }

(Base Power / 10 * STAB * Type Effectiveness) * (Your Lv / Opponent Lv) + any other bonus or interference

Base Power: This can be found on Serebii's Attackdex.
STAB: Stands for Same Type Attack Bonus. If a Pokemon uses a move that is its same type, the damage done is boosted by 1.5x. So a Grass-type Pokemon using Razor Leaf would do 1.5x more damage. Contrarily, if a Pokemon uses a move that is a different type, it would get no bonus.
Type Effectiveness: Weakness or advantage. Some types of moves have more or less effect on certain types of Pokemon. For example, a Normal-type move will do 0.5x less damage to a Rock-type Pokemon, while a Fire-type move will do 2x damage to a Grass-type Pokemon.

Other Bonuses and Interference: As this RPG is aiming to be more realistic, damage may receive other bonuses depending on how the situation was roleplayed, and if anything else came into play. For example, if a Pokemon managed to hurl another Pokemon onto a very large rock, that in itself would deal some damage.
Abilities: Some Pokemon have special abilities that may boost its attacks or minimize damage. These can be found on Serebii's PokeDex and are integrated into the RPG.

Example Scenarios:
Quote:

In Which STAB and Type Effectiveness Are Used:
lv10 :charmander: vs lv8 :bulbasaur:
Charmander uses Ember, with a Base Power of 40.
40/10 = 4
4*1.5 for STAB = 6
6*2 for Fire-type's advantage over Grass-type = 12
10/8 = 1.25
1.25*12 = 15 total damage.

In Which Type Effectiveness is Not Applicable:
lv5 :eevee: vs lv6 :rattata:
Eevee uses Tackle, with a Base Power of 35.
35/10 = 3.5
3.5*1.5 = 5.25
5/6 = 0.83
0.83*5.25 = 4.4, rounded to 4.
Eevee did 4 total damage.

NOTE: All attacks must do at least 1 damage, in the case the final amount rounds down to 0.

(There is a Pokemon weakness/advantage chart here for reference.)

Still confused? Mods calculate damage, so don't worry about it if you're not a mod. Although, in case if a mod makes a mistake, it might be better to know this. :3 You'll get used to it~
