Note: As mods are the ones who calculate all this, if you don't understand something here, don't worry about it~

{ EXP Needed }

Level 2 = 20
Level 3 = 30
Level 4 = 40
Level 5 = 50
Level 6 = 60
....etc.
Level 20 = 200

The formula is to add 0 to the end of whatever level you're at.

{ Gaining EXP }

Quite naturally, if your Pokemon defeats a Pokemon that's a higher level, then you gain more experience than if you defeat a lower-leveled opponent.

To calculate the amount of exp gained from a battle with one Pokemon vs. one Pokemon...

(Level of Pokemon + Level of Opponent) * 6(plus or minus any bonus) / 2

* = multiply
/ = divide

BONUSES:

If the Pokemon you defeated was a higher level than your Pokemon, then you receive a bonus. Add the difference between your Pokemon's level and your opponent's level to the number 6, and replace it in the formula.

Example: My Pokemon is lv12. My opponent is lv14. If I win, 12+14=26. My opponent was 2 levels higher. 6+2=8. Using the formula, 26*8=208, 208/2=104. So my Pokemon earns 104 out of the 120 it needs to level up.

If the opponent's level is lower than yours, no bonus is given.

Example: My Pokemon is lv12. The opponent is lv10. If I win, 12+10=22, and *6=132. 132/2=66. Therefore, it receives only 66 EXP out of the 120 it needs to level up.

Another type of bonus, "aesthetic bonus", you can call it, can be added if a mod thinks you did a particularly creative and superb job at roleplaying the battle. Also, if you catch the Pokemon, all EXP is given. For double battles, EXP is split among Pokemon and the levels of the strongest Pokemon are put into the formula. If your Pokemon faints, it'll receive half the EXP.

Understand that this is the very basis of giving EXP. There will always be exceptions where the mod may give you more or less than what is given by the formula depending on the situation.

{ HP and Energy }

HP, or Hit Points/health, is measured with a number. All starters begin with 25 HP, and adds +2 to +4 for each level it gains. Energy is measured with a percent. Full energy is 100%. It's is similar to their endurance, and falls when they use moves or are put into great physical strain. Some moves take up more energy than others, and as a Pokemon levels up, it may take them less energy to use weaker moves.

If either HP or Energy falls to 0%, the Pokemon will faint and you must heal it yourself or take it to a Pokemon center.

In order to calculate energy used... moves with a Base Power of...

1-50: 1-5%
50-100: 5-10%
100+: 10%+

^ This is a very basic standard. It really depends on your battle situation, the attacks you're using, and the person refereeing you. Also, if you use the same attack over and over, it'll take more energy each time because your Pokemon is constantly repeating the same movements, not to mention it's very boring. So put variety into your moves!

{ Evolution }

A Pokemon will evolve when it reaches the level it needs to reach. Evolutions that need an item such as a Thunderstone would require you to obtain that item in your journey. Baby Pokemon that evolve with "friendship" are free to evolve after they spend 5 levels with you, but the timing depends on you. Others that evolve with friendship like Eevee to Espeon require 10 levels with you. And of course, your character must have a good relationship with them.
