He's only lost a couple tail feathers, but, ugh. I've done my homework in the past, but I never came across it and the info isn't fresh in my mind and all my bookmarks about it are on a different computer..in storage. CBL? Anything I can do to help with feathers regrowing? Do I pluck them? I know you've gone through it a couple times. The poor guy is so lonely looking in the back room all by himself and I'm all over the house throughout the day so he doesn't get to sit on my shoulder like he was. I wouldn't be worrying so much if I didn't have babies in the house. I guess the parents are on their 4th clutch, 2 that they raised all the way through, ugh. I didn't know she was letting them do that, she won't take the nest box away "because they sleep in it."

If it is fm, yes, u MUST pluck all flights, secondaries and tails. Can u post a pic?

If ur lucky and it is only a few AND u see that the feathers are completely out and the follicle is NOT clogged with a broken shaft, then u can leave it and they will re grow.

All right, best I could get. He lost a bunch since I was back there a couple hours ago and they were coming out as I was trying to look closer. Some are broken, I'm going in with tweasers in a bit.

Yes by the first 2 pics I can say yes. Get to pluckin them ALL out as stated above. Careful with the tweezers and dont forget to support the top part of the wing when pulling so u dont break the actual wing bone. If moult, they will almost fall out in ur hand anyway. Good work on the diagnosis and please post a pic of the actual bird.

Here's one from when I got him, he's the English baby. I couldn't get him to sit still long enough to get a close up of the feathers near the skin that are still in. I remembered your pictures from the old site, so thanks to you:)

Oh, beautiful bird. Good for you, go ahead and do the necessary plucking and good luck, he will be perfect! He will grow back perfectly. I suggest the best of the best food and greens and millet and I would offer pedialyte 50/50 for the duration. At any drugstore. I feel that nutrition is crutial for fm'ers.

All right, like this? Or do I have to go up another row?

What his remaining flight looked like.

All of the feathers I pulled came out whole, but ones that came out earlier were broken, so I still need to get a closer look and make sure all pieces are out, but the poor baby was stressed and was turning to biting, so we stopped for tonight...pissed, but cute:)

I cant tell in the pic. If the 10 primary flights are out, thats good, but u also need to pull all the secondaries as well. I think it is the next 8 for secondaries. But more crucial than that is to pull those stubs out. They are the ones that can block the follicle and kill it, and then render the bird flightless forever. So get ur tweezers, or hemostats or needle nose plyers and yank them, gently :)

Yeah, I'm going to go pester him in a bit. I found my pointy "splinter" tweasers that will help with getting a grip on the end of his two center tail feathers that broke, my other tweasers weren't working yestersday. I see in the picture that I think I missed a couple up close to his body, but I didn't want to over stress him last night. I pulled on of the next row up on the wing tip, it looked healthy and it really pissed him off, he pondered biting me, so I left the rest.

No the only rows u pull are the first being the long flights and the secondaries beside the flights. Dont pull any of his coverts. They stay. Tails got to go too. :)
